Good weather, bbq, Yes Please!
We ordered takeout today and I was salivating thanks to the yelp raving reviews. The fam and I ordered lunch and we had the Chicken and Ribs combo!
I will say this…. The pork ribs and sweet plantains were GREAT!!! IMO the chicken was a bit dry and lacked flavor and the fries blahhhh. The portions were awesome and we got tons of food for $19.
The fam enjoyed the food and everyone had the same reactions to fries. I will def give this place another try as maybe I caught them on an off day.
A modest looking restaurant that serves up big flavor and big portions is a win in my book. This Colombian place ticks off all the right markers in making it a local fav. First off it's not pretentious. It's a small restaurant that a customer is better off doing take-out than eating in. Next the wonderful aroma of simmering meats over fire is intoxicatingly good. Then the humongous portions all for a very reasonable price is vonderbar. And last but not least the flavor coming out of the dishes served is nothing short of heart-cloggingly delicious.
Located on Washington Street in Belleville, this unassuming restaurant is perhaps a local gem. I would have never known about it unless I checked in to Popeye's across the street and decided to look on Yelp for which places were around. Garnering a solid 4 stars from 11 reviews I wanted to give it a try. Thankfully I did because this is a great spot to get some delicious Colombian food to feed an army, or two, of hungry people. The first time I visited I ordered two combination platters: chicken and beef ribs and chicken and beef steak. Incredible portion size and bursting with straight-from-the-grill flavor. A generous–and I truly mean generous–portion of rice and french fries accompanied each platter. I was amazed how much food I got for such a reasonable price.
I have also been able to try their meat combo platter. Okay are you ready for what this baby offers. Here it goes: french fries, rice, plantains, steak, pork ribs, chicken, pork sausage, and chicharron. Yeah baby! Imma let you sit on that for a while. Okay you back? Cool. Only complaint that I had though was the darn chicharron was NOT crispy. I felt like I was chewing a piece of bone. I wanted to call myself Rover and bark. Aside from that small oopsie everything was off the grill…haha see what I just did there.
I think I've found BBQ heaven!!
This place, though small and crummy-looking on the outside, is not to be judged by its cover. We ordered the meat platter for 4-5 people ($25) to go, which included pork ribs, chicken, sausage, steak, and chicharron. We asked to substitute extra pork ribs for the chicharron and they let us do that. It came with yellow rice, maduros, and fries. TIP: order ahead!!!! This place gets super busy and 30 minutes into waiting there I eventually realized that everybody calls in and picks up their order.
The food was nothing short of amazing, and they literally give you like 4 pounds of rice underneath all that meat. The fries were good and the plantains were perfect. My favorite of all the meats was definitely the pork ribs, the chicken was very good as well.
If you are craving BBQ for super cheap this is your ideal spot! (Just make sure you call ahead.)
This place is such a sleeper BBQ spot. It's on the corner of a semi-rugged strip on Washington Ave. It's signage tells a completely different story from the food, service, and menu.
What I really like about this place is that their yellow rice piles high and clumps like white rice and is garlic-y! Its grains are not loose and separate. The chicken is great; their ribs are plump and not dry (but not very moist either). It's a matter of preference really and this place does it for me. I just wish it weren't 15 minutes from my home.
FYI – Call and place your order in advanced. A majority of their business are phone orders.
