Family style eating ordering from 3 courses totaling 15 dishes for 5 adults.
Not happy to report that for me, only 7:15 were amazing. The remainder weren't terrible but either the flavors didn't meld or it was forgettable (still only got love for you Pardes)
Standouts were:
House cured tongue: stood alone perfectly but was even better with the crunchy and not at all oily onion rings.
Rib eye Tartare: the tartare itself was just delicious but smothering that smoked egg yolk on it just made it velvety, rich and decadent in all the right ways.
Shisito peppers stuffed with the house marguez: nice balance of the fresh green charred pepper with the spicy sausage, Perfectly bite sized.
Tempura Kale: loads of flavor in every bite! Great crunch even after it was sitting at our take for a while.
Grapefruit tart special: the puree accompanying it could have been chilled a bit more but the tart was fantastic. Not too sweet and not too tart.
Braised lamb belly: fried soft boiled egg, fresh al dente asparagus with silky unctuous lamb belly. Not gamey in the least bit and the flavors worked magically.
Pastrami rib: we got the last one for the night! And well worth every last bite!
Wait staff was very attentive and totally on it the entire night without being intrusive. But for the love of everything holy they need a better AC system!
I would TOTALLY give this place 5 stars!!! However, I'm not sure if I'm missing something but I didn't understand why each item that we ordered off the menu was served one by one in 15-minute intervals. Huh? Other than that, the service was good.
It annoyed me because each dish was so tasty I was too anxious to try the next. I know, I know, everything is made fresh and to order so that's why I tried my best to remain patient. The food here is GOOD…I mean like REALLY GOOD!!! This was my first time dining Kosher and I feel like I've been missing out on some real food all my life!
I came here with my High School teacher and we ordered the following:
French fries: ALL
Onion Rings: AMAZINGLY
Lamb and potatoes: DELICIOUS
Steak and asparagus: WITHOUT A
Chocolate mousse with strawberries: DOUBT
See what I did there…Lol. This place is a bit pricey hence the 3-$ signs. Also, it mentions "Kosher, French" so of course the portions would be small. On the bright side this was a treat for me and I didn't have to pay, but if I did I still would've left a happy camper.
Pardes, I'm pretty disappointed….. Yeah I knew in advance that this place has insane waiting time for the dishes to get out of the kitchen, I knew that the service is subpar, and I also knew that the place is very small and cramped, However I was told that the food is "out of this planet" and that's where I was disappointed…. ***Creates a deep saddened face and lowers head***
Made reservations for special occasion, arrived and the place was packed but we where seated promptly. (After the hostess took "only" 3 phone calls from the non stop ringing phone)
Seating: let me explain to you what the definition of "Cramped" is. You are seated at a I tiny 2' x 2' square table and 2 inches off from both sides there is another table, and when they're both occupied you have to work really hard not to join your neighbors conversation, and it's pretty hard to just take a photo of your dish without including part of their table. But okay…. we came here for the food….
Waiters: As expected, we where hardly looked at and to get more water would require a half hour wait with two polite requests.
Food: Here's where I was really disappointed. We wanted to start off with a few plates and then take it from there but the results where pretty disappointing. we tried the Fries with Garlic Truffle Mayo and House Made Red Wine Ketchup, Fries where deliciously crispy on the out side and soft on the inside but Oooohhhh soooo salty! (Mouth Salt level #10) the truffle mayo was also good but the red wine ketchup was nothing out of this world. next we tried the onion rings which is where I was really disappointed , it was "Again" Salty as hell and was far worse then any other homemade fried onion rings that I had eaten at much more casual restaurants. (Mouth salt level #20) these two dishes came out of the kitchen pretty quickly (like 10-15 minute wait) next we had (After a 45 minute wait) the beef tongue plate which consists of a decent amount of well cooked soft tongue wrapped in a crust on a bed of fresh sauerkraut with a poached egg on top with fried sour pickle as a garnish. this plate was also delicious but "Again" the tongue was Supper salty!!! (Mouth Salt Level #30…. I felt at this point like having a mirage of huge water fountain next to me and Guzzling it all down!) at this point we asked our waiter about our other dish which she replied that she missed to order it for us so we bailed on that one, and said that we'll move on to our dessert (Which we had ordered right as we sat down) and now we waited a additional 30 minutes. But this time it was worth, the desert was a Fall themed desert which consisted of a mini baked pumpkin cut open on the top and scooped out and filled with a crunch treat and it was plated on top of some sweet jam sauce with two freshly baked cookies on the side. the results where fireworks and stadium applauseable chants. it was out of this world!!! (Guzzling water mirage disappears……)
So, my assumption would be that we didn't choose the right dishes from the menu based on our experience with the dessert and the fries, and therefore I would definitely give it another try soon.
Will keep you posted how that was.
Our waitress was really intense. LET ME EXPLAIN EVERYTHING ABOUT THE MENU AND EVERYTHING ABOUT HOW IT WORKS FOR 20 MINUTES. Lady. It's a menu. We have used one before successfully. We're good. We got it. Take it down a notch. She also used the word "pissed" to describe other customers who apparently didn't understand to order more than one item per person, which seemed unprofessional. She also suggested we order 4-5 plates per person which was completely inaccurate. The servings here are large and I don't recommend ordering more than 2 things unless you're really hungry or you are sharing with others.
Once that intense waitress lady stopped cramping our style, we got to really enjoy our food. The fried chicken skins were super tasty. Kosher soul food? Yes please. Serving size was HUGE– recommend sharing. French fries were incredible, partly because of some orgasmic garlic topping and TRUFFLE MAYO and HOMEMADE KETCHUP. Yes! All vegetables were delicious and perfectly prepared. Briscuit burger was small but packed a huge flavor punch. Beef bacon was a nice touch. Chocolate mousse was super tasty and also some kind of magic trick, seeing as there is no dairy served here.
If you like meat or are doing a paleo thing (no dairy), I highly recommend whether you are keeping Kosher or not. Pardes is also super upfront about where they get their meat and produce and get a lot of their food locally. A lot of the menu items are really spectacular and the chef is clearly thinking outside the box. Unique approaches here for any food, not just Kosher.
One thing to note, things are brought out as they are made, and in no particular order. If you are obsessed with regular dining structure, you will not like this. I am down with some random food being put in front of me, therefore I am a huge fan. Will definitely be back.
There are 3 things I rate in a restaurant.
Food
Service/Attitude
Decor.
People rave about Pardes and about how good the food is but I was completely not impressed. I've had my fair share of incredible dishes made by Daniel Boulad or Gordon Ramsey but if Pardes is going to charge 5* prices, they should have something to show for it. Alas, the flavors were so poor I barely touched my food — we ordered quite a number of dishes.
They did not have all the desserts on their menu available and I was not there at a late hour but they claimed they ran out of it.
It seems like the chef is out of the game and uninterested.
Service was supbar. It took a while to get our table set up and dishes were brought before cutlery was laid. I had to ask a number of times for my water to be refilled.
The only thing I have to say about the decor is, if you are in such a small place, cut your seating in half and make yourself THE exclusive spot because the way the tables are set at Pardes it's practically one big communal table.
