What a great little gem in Jackson Heights! I came here for my 26th birthday dinner with my parents and grandparents. We were a group of 9 and the waitress, Pamela, did a good job at juggling all of our requests.
The food here is so good. By far, the best dinner entree is the churrasco (skirt steak) with the yuca au gratin. I was about to order fries with the skirt steak because I wasn't a big fan of yuca, but the waitress politely insisted that I try the yuca au gratin. I'm so glad I took her advice! Delicious, creamy, cheesy – ugh, it was amazing. And the skirt steak? Soft, juicy, incredible. My dad and my husband ordered the pork chops and really liked them as well – the portions were huge.
My husband and I came here for a friend's birthday brunch as well. Again, we were a large group and the staff was very accommodating (thanks Nicole!). The restaurant was having a special event with a celebrity chef, DJ, and unlimited Avion drinks. It was so much fun! I had the Pina Colada Chicken and Waffles – it was interesting to taste chicken with pineapple and I liked it a lot. Other friends ordered the breakfast Paella and the Sea Bass entrees. Everyone enjoyed their food.
I'm glad to have a cute place like this in the neighborhood and I can't wait to return for some more steak and drinks. Can't wait to try out their backyard seating in the summer!
The food here is amazing. It's a small menu, especially for dinner, it's presented well and delicious. The Mofongo with Shrimp is out of this world. The sauce was so amazing that I just wanted to lick the plate but I refrained myself from doing so. The salad looked like a piece of art that my colleague didn't even want to eat it! The only issue I have with this place is the service. It's really really slow. Even when we ordered drinks, it took a really long time for them to get to us. Also, if you sit in the back at dinner, you can hardly see the menu. We had to use the flashlight on our phones to read it.
This bar had a lovely seating area in the back, so we decided to go have a meal in the nice cool breeze. This was sometime in October right when the leaves was starting to change and the air was increasingly cooler. It definitely has many defining characteristics of a Brooklyn bar–chalkboard, wooden interior, palm trees, and plants. Our friend recommended that it was a great place for brunch. We came around 4 pm, so we just missed brunch. I had this delicious mango coconut flakes drink called la rumba (I think?), and it was addictive. We also ordered a steak which was not bad. I believe the menu said that it was pomegranate sauce, but I didn't taste it so strongly. It came with a ton of mashed yuca (potato?) and greens. Our waitress was nice, and it was a gorgeous day out. I like this place, yet it is on the pricey end, so maybe for a nice ladies' night out. 🙂
We were here because our friends are in love with the wine cocktails. It would have been a four-star restaurant if it hadn't been so expensive. Starters were priced like mains. That said, the "arepitas" with ropa vieja were solid, as were the plantains–rich, but not too greasy. The arepas were also very attractively presented. The coconut mojito was creamy and smooth, with plenty of fresh mint.
