  1. Bargain for brunch.

Hummus Kitchen's brunch is a $15 prix fixe that includes an assortment of appetizers and one entree. For an additional $7, you get unlimited mimosas or sangria. This is a great deal in NYC.

The apps were awesome. Not sure what they're all called, but included were chickpea salad, grape leaves, and delicious whole wheat pita bread.

The shakshuka was delicious, but my eggs were over-cooked. We were in a bit of a rush so I didn't send them back, but the flavors were definitely there.

I will definitely return. It was crazy that this place was basically empty for brunch when it offers such a great bargain.

  2. After a great work out at Equinox I was in serious need of some nourishment. Of course I checked out Yelp, and decided that a falafel would be he perfect post work out snack. Hummus kitchen was close by, had great reviews and I could order for pick up – it was perfect. Even more perfect was the free item they give when you check in! I ordered my food from the gym and by the time my short walk had brought me here the food was all ready. I showed my free item coupon to the manager and he was more than willing to prepare something quickly for us, including some tea, and let me tell you – we were not disappointed, in fact we were so thrilled by the amazing service and the food that was prepared to perfection. The falafel was one of the best I've had in NYC so far. I will definitely be back.

  3. I hit up Hummus Kitchen with a vegetarian friend a few nights ago for a light vegetarian dinner. I was apprehensive to check out this UES eatery, as the UES tends to be an expert on mediocre and overpriced food, but I was pleasantly surprised.
Although this place is a bit on the pricey side, for hummus that is, it is definitely good and they offer a wide variety of Mediterranean dishes.
We shared a trio dish ($16), you choose three of the smaller dishes offered. Sharing this dish with my friend was a mistake as she hogged most of the food, hungry ass vegetarian, and refused to get grape leaves. Slightly pissed, I agreed on the roasted beets(1), the regular hummus(2), and the falafel(3).

    1. The roasted beets were on the sweeter side, adorned with slightly candied walnuts and dressed greens. A small dish indeed but very good in it's simplicity.
    2. The hummus was delicious, perfectly balanced and smooth. Served with your choice of wheat or white pita (we got one of each). The pita was fluffy and enough to wipe up the delicious hummus.
    3. To my surprise the falafel was log-shaped, not the round shape I'm used to, but they were perfectly crisp and tasty! Though much more grainy than most falafels I've had in the past, they were delicious and hearty, served with a vinegary green Chimichurri-like sauce.

And finally my food hoarding friend insisted on ordering dessert. She decided on the almond milk ice cream with tahini caramel sauce served on a pastry, $7, at the waiter's recommendation. I'm not sure the exact name of the dessert but it was one of the best things I've tasted although I only had two bites and she devoured the rest.
The dough was flaky and stringy (don't know what type of pastry but it was thin and crunchy) resting flat at the bottom of the dish, with two scoops of almond milk ice cream atop that had an interesting texture unlike dairy ice cream but a smooth taste nonetheless. HOWEVER, the best part of the dish was the tahini caramel that brought it all together! YES, a tahini caramel– how do you manage to make a caramel that tastes like tahini AND caramel, perfectly balanced. Sheer genius! I would buy a bottle. In fact, please give me the recipe for each component of this dessert! I would absolutely love to make this at home.

  4. Went here for dinner with some friends. Since its on 2nd ave with the train construction going on I walked right passed it.

What I liked about the decor was that it was super relaxing and airy feeling for being right in a construction zone with a bunch of UESiders walking by. I was greeted by the super friendly server upon entering. We were quickly served water and approached to order. Because me and my friends are Yelpers, when we checked in we got a FREE surprise! That was delightful. Our suprises was to pick an option off of the appetizer menus. I tried the falaffel and she tried the hummus. We were both happy with our choices.

For mains, I went with the Moroccan fish (tilapia in spices with couscous), my friend wanted to order the salmon but they were fresh out so she got the same dish as I. Our third friend ordered the Butternut Squash  stuffed with veggies option. All the food was tasty and we really enjoyed it.

The one hiccup I will say was that my fish came out cold.  I wasn't going to say anything since my couscous was hot but my friend decided to tell the waitress for me. The waitress was gracious about it, apologized and had the chef heat up my food.

Overall good place, nice chill vibe that plays relaxing music (top hits but at a volume where you could still enjoy your conversation). Would definitely come again!

  5. The food was good but the rating is for the service. All of the food was flavorful and decent.Their Harissa was not spicy enough. The chicken lafa was more like shawarma. Beets were fresh. Waitress basically ignored us and we had to look for her to ask for something. You would think this would happen in a full place but we were literally the only ones there! This is a better place for take out. We asked for some cucumbers for the babies she charged us 7$!!!

  6. I've been meaning to try Hummus Kitchen for the longest time; had a chance to come here with another on Friday night around 8pm ish.  The restaurant was moderately busy…which is a good thing given the more casual nature of their food. We tried:

    – the falafel (very good, and interesting, long vs. round and filled with a lot more greens)
    – the hummus, obviously, the namesake of the restaurant…this was creamy, and well done
    – the Mediterranean salad which was a chopped tomato & cucumber salad
    – the Chicken Kebab which was by far my favorite. Succulent pieces of tender chicken in light and butter cous cous with a really good pepper aioli sauce
    – the Mediterranean chicken which was a stewed chicken in red pepper sauce,  and flavorful majadra rice.
-The Kitchen Kadif for dessert which had really sweet, textured halva ice cream over sweet baklava type of waifer/dessert.

Service was prompt and polite. Ambiance is intimate/cozy.  I started off with some mint tea which was refreshing.

  7. Just had the falafel wrap. I must say this is very filling. It contains several large pieces of falafel. It also contains, cucumber, pickles, tomatoes, parsley and is drizzled with a great tasting tahini sauce.
All this for $10 bucks-not bad at all.
My friend had the mezze trio= falafel, baba ghanouj, & cauliflower w/pita bread -all were super delicious for $16.
We were stuffed. Only thing I was not fond of was the small super spicy green sauce that came in a container on the side-my tongue and throat are still numb, that's how spicy it was.

  8. Hidden Gem!!!! I've lived on the UES for 3 years and never checked out this place. I went without high hopes and I left blown away. Our server, Diane went above and beyond to make sure our experience was great 🙂 she recommended the Mediterranean salad with grilled chicken added and it was soooo good. Afterwards, she recommended the nondairy ice cream (can't remember what it's called) YOU MUST GET IT. I am not kidding. I have dreams about this dessert. Visit here simply for this ice cream if you have to (and request Diane!!)

Such a great experience here! So happy I found this place 🙂
