Sooooo I enjoyed the place, but my buddy wasn't feeling well afterward so I need to take that into consideration.
You're not gonna find the city's best restaurants in the area, so you have to go with what you can get. I'd recommend hopping on the train and heading into Harlem for some eats, but if you have to stay around here this is good for some quick eats.
-The service was very nice and friendly.
-The omelet was as it should be
-The fries and onion rings were on point
-Prices were as you'd expect
-Donuts were fresh and tasty
-Solid iced coffee
-Chicken Caesar Salad could have used a few more ingredients. It was mostly lettuce, but alas.
Buddy who wasn't feeling well had a Philly Cheesesteak Sandwich. Maybe it was just too greasy, or he was not feeling well for other reasons, but hey, have to mention it.
Once again this diner wins on service. The food is consistently fresh and delicious and the service, which can be hard to come by in these parts, is friendly and helpful.
I hadn't been in about a year and a half and it seems they have updated their menu and the name of the diner in the mean time. Nevertheless, the quality remains high and I believe it to be the best local joint in the area – Not to mention it's convenient proximity to Yankee Stadium!
Burgers never fail, fries, sweet potato fries and onion rings, hot and fresh, their milkshakes win every time – And their breakfast is the right way to start the day 🙂
All I ordered was cheese fries with gravy. The fries were inconsistently warm. Either flaming hot or Luke warm. Only some of the cheese came melted. The gravy was blah and watery. And the portion was not great for $5.50.
My friend who took me here loves it and had the Gyro and some donuts. He comes here often and says that the fries were an aberration, but I am not convinced.
As diner's go, this one's a-ok. Located a couple of blocks from Yankee Stadium, it's massive and gets packed VERY quickly. My friend and I got off the D train looking for quick eats before catching Roger Waters at the Stadium and this looked like the surest bet. True to NY diner form, the menu was huge, though reasonably priced. I ordered a gyro with fries. The gyro must've been left unattended, since about a quarter of it was carbon by the time it got to me. The fries, though, were surprisingly delicious. Crisp, fluffy, slightly (but not overwhelmingly) salty. Everything a good diner fry should be. And Crown Donut is going to be a better meal than McDonalds. Or stadium food.
This place is a legit diner. We came in here mostly to get out of the rain. Not only did they keep us dry, but we got awesome diner fare. The mirrors were a little disorienting, but it adds to the charm. When the choice is between this place or the Hard Rock Cafe in Yankee Stadium, that's not really a decision.
I hit up this diner a few times a season before or after Yankees games and it does not dissappoint. Went there tonight after Pinstripe Bowl game today and was jonesing for hot coffee and breakfast after a cold day at the stadium. Coffee is always tasty and food is well made diner fare. Plus, you can get grits with your omelet instead of potatoes. Nice touch!
Burgers are good too, and fries with gravy are always a treat. Menu here is huge. Plus, they have a killer donut selection as they also make their own donuts and pastries. Overall prices are so much better then overpaying at the stadium. But be aware that it is cash only!
Clean, cheap, fast and friendly. Not a bad breakfast sandwich. Nothing I'd brag about, but I'd certainly go back.
Cash only.
A solid diner for when the game sucks, the Yanks are losing, and you're hungry.
We ended up in here after the above happened and we wanted fries. We were quickly seated and given a huge menu full of your typical diner grub. Our waitress was very sweet and checked up on us often. I decided to go with the Greek omelet which included tomato and feta. One friend had the Italian panini, another had a burger, and the final person in our group had the spinach omelet. Our food came out relatively quick and it was delicious. The fries here are amazing. My omelet was so good, they used proper feta (not the watered down, no longer crumbly crap some places use). Everyone else enjoyed their meals, as well. All that plus soda for $45.
