  1. Wow, this place def. was a 5-star experience for me and a group of 5 friends. Arrived a few minutes late, and were promptly seated in a dimly lit room with a large assortment of tables, it was mostly families and groups. Immediately the waiters gave us the wine menu and some bread which was delicious. We ended up order the pinot-grigio, and the waiters promptly would refill it each time the glasses were half empty. Appetizers  we got a bruchetta, ham with melen, and a Cesar salad that was made right in front of us. A nice touch. The main course was a great veal chop with pasta and veggies. Desert may have been the best part, our group ordered a couple of items and I sampled the chocolate mousse, tiramisu, and  Cheese cake and all were amazing. The waiters were prompt with every item and what felt quick ended up being a 2.5 hr dinner. I will 100 percent return here in the future. A great dinner experience.

  2. This place was delicious! Firstly, I definitely recommend a reservation and although they honor reservations, we had to wait like 40 minutes for people to leave their table which was a bit annoying. Since we were obviously waiting so long, the management could have brought us some appetizer over to the bar area where we were waiting but they didn't. This restaurant is very small and it was packed on a random Thursday evening. The food was delicious. We shared the hot/cold antipasto appetizers which were extremely good. The pesto sauce and clams were different from your typical antipasto dishes. For the pain course, I had the pasta with mushrooms and cheese which was amazing. For dessert, I had these cream pastry things with chocolate sauce that were incredible. The food here is expensive but they do have many reasonably priced items on the menu and the quality is exquisite. I highly recommend Il Tinello for a nice dinner out and you'll definitely enjoy it!

  3. This is a fine, high-end Italian restaurant. We were here because my ex-coworker was nice enough to give me a gift card. I think he missed out because this is probably one of the best Italian I have ever eaten.

It is a little stuffy but I think all fine dining gives you that vibe where you dared not to raise your voice and I had my son with me! Good thing he was rather behaved that day.

We started with their freshly made Mozzarella Cheese and it was so soft and creamy that I could probably eat the whole plate myself. For entree, we had the lamb chop, and Carbonara Spaghetti. I think that is one of the best lamb chops we have had and it costs a whopping $50! But it is really worth it. I really enjoyed their Carbonara too. It is creamy, cheesy and the spaghetti is cooked just right. We ended our dinner with their Tiramisu and again, it is really awesome.

Everything we ate here is nicely made and top quality. The service is superb and ambiance is upscale and fine dining. You don't expect to walk out here paying less than $40 a person I would say unless you order the very minimum.

This is a great place for a nice occasion for sure. We would love to return!

  4. A classic small NY Italian restaurant with a waiter staff that was dressed crisply and had army precision. The kitchen was outstanding with their quality and speed.
We started with a wonderful rendition of the specials by John Carlo. His descriptions set up the meal experience. Our waiter,Salvatore, never made us wait.
My wife had an outstanding burrata and tomato appetizer. I had the shrimp luigi which had a terrific sauce.
My wife had the lobster pasta with mussels and clams, which she ordered without the clams. I helped her finish it! I had the Dover sole with was deboned at our table, which always heightens  the expectation. I like it very basic with little breading and this was perfect.
The desserts topped off the meal when they rolled up the cart with all the choices. My wife had perfect berries with zabaglione and I had the ricotta cheese cake.

  5. Phenomenal. Came with my boyfriend for dinner and we left beyond satisfied. Amazing food, great service and good atmosphere. Will return asap.

  6. I've been here for a date night and it was very good. You have a place to leave your coats if its a freezing night!

The place is big althought you cannot really tell from the entrance. Service is a huge plus because everyone is very efficient.

The ambient is classic, looks like an old restaurant. But it comes to the food, I cannot complain. Its  very tasty and well served. Also the plates are big enough.

Most of the waiters can speak Italian! Bravisimo!

  7. If I could give this place 6 stars I would. I came here last night with some people in my industry and had the best meal I've ever had in New York City.

From the moment you walk in the attention to detail and service is impeccable. The restaurant is not that large and dimly lit, perfect for a date. But I also saw many bigger groups, so this place really could go in any direction you want.

As for the food, it was outstanding. The only thing I hardly tried was the bread, but why waste your time on that?  The caesar salad was made in front of us and hands down the best one I've ever tried. We also split ham and melen and it was delicious.

My entree was lamb from New Zealand with penne on the side. I ordered it medium and it came out perfect. It was juicy, tender, and enjoyed by everyone at the table that tried it . I also sampled the veal parm from my friend which was great.

The highlight of the meal may have been the desert cart that they wheel around. I opted for the chocolate mousse which I really loved. In fact all the deserts I sampled were great (tiramisu, other chocolate one).

The service here was unbelievable. This is how a restaurant should be. Your water and wine are re-filled before you even think to ask. When my friend was in the bathroom, they told us they'd wait for him before bringing the desert options around (a real classy move).

You can read my reviews, I rarely rave about a place this much. The bill was VERY expensive (tack on $200 for 3 bottles of wine), but our friend was comping it so all the better.

    I am definitely returning here.

  8. I have been going to Il Tinello for years, and it has not failed to impress me on pretty much every occasion.

John, the host, is always gracious  All of the staff are incredibly polite and accommodating to your specific needs.  The decor is very old world – white tablecloths, waiters in suits of varying styles to indicate position, and dim, romantic lighting.  The crowd is typically older, but I wouldn't let that stop you from dining here.

The meal always starts with an amuse bouche – bruschetta with tomato and basil that is really lovely.

I have tried the following dishes:

Tuna Tartare (4.5/5): A special that is often served. Tuna tartare with avocado and tomatoes served on cucumber slices with crispy waffled chips and a lemon on the side.  I really like this version of tuna tartare – it has a touch of Asian influence and is very tasty.

Spaghetti alla Checca (4.5/5): This is my go-to order at Il Tinello.  The spaghetti is always cooked perfectly, and the diced mozzarella is soft and melts to perfection in the tomato sauce.  I absolutely love this dish.

Pappardelle with Truffle Sauce (5/5): A truly amazing truffle pasta – quite possibly the best I've ever had.  The pasta is always fresh and delicious, and the truffle sauce is a wonderful mix of creamy and light.  Whenever it's a special on the menu, I get it.  It's a must-order if offered.

Agnolotti alla "Regis" (4.5/5): Agnolotti pasta served with asparagus and almonds.  It's an almost unexpected but amazing mix of flavors.  I absolutely love this pasta.

Trenette al Pesto (4/5): Very good pesto pasta with egg noodles.  With its strong garlic flavor, I really enjoy this pesto.

Zabaione (5/5): Amazing dessert of mixed berries topped with zabaione.  If you ask, they will make it by the table, and it's a really great experience to watch.

I absolutely love this restaurant and make it a point to go whenever I can.  I absolutely recommend trying it out!
