Dirty French
“Got the tuna tartare and lamb carpaccio to start- both were great though the carpaccio in particular was excellent.”
“We made the awesome choice of ordering the Cote de Boeuf which was $109 that day for I believe 25ish ounces.”
“We also had the Millefeuille, which was an amazing delicate mushroom dish with a green curry sauce, it was outstanding.”

I cannot express how much we enjoyed our night here! My sister was in town with some friends and made reservations here. We got there a little bit early and sat at the bar for a quick drink. The bar tender was so friendly and quick to help us decide the best drinks for each of us. While we were waiting, a server brought out mushroom croquettes for us to munch on. They were delicious and such a great start to the night.
We sat down and our waitress ( Frances) was awesome! She brought us this complimentary appetizer with three types of soft cheeses, olive oil, and herbs served with this garlic flat bread. Amazing! We ordered seconds and had to warn ourselves not to get stuffed because of all the food we had coming.
We ordered two salads, beet and kale I believe. The green beans, millf…( mushroom..by far my favorite dish) however I am sure I butchered the name, and the chicken dish. I thought the food was delicious, though just a tad on the saltier side. Honestly, this would have bothered me but the drinks we had balanced it out. It was more than enough food for the four of us ! We ended the night with beignets. I had just gone to Nola and had these and I have to say… These were so much better! They were light and fluffy and came with a dipping sauce that was delicious! Try them!
Sometime between dinner and dessert, we noticed two people making a flambé drink table side next to us. Being of course nosy, we asked what it was. Turned out to be some banana drink which we were not interested in. The waiter however came back to our table once making their drink were done and brought us complimentary shots that were delicious! I cannot tell you how great our night was!
I cannot believe I got so far in my review and have not mentioned my drink for the night! Try the gimlet…it was so fresh and flavorful! I had several through the night and after our meal we wrapped up drinks in the garden out back. All of the wait staff chatted with us and was great at suggesting places to mingle and get drinks at afterwards.
Great night and worth the hype! Check it out!
Very disappointing dinner at Dirty French. I'll start off with the good things they have going on:
– their complimentary flatbread with fromage blanc, although their flatbread gave off more of a mediterranean touch.
– lamb carpaccio. This seems be a successful starter for everybody.
– Duck a l'Orange. The only entree they seem to do a good job on.
– Beignets – taste OK, I'm just glad it was sweet, and not…salty.
Everything else was below average and very over seasoned. Not sure if the chef is having an off-night and was inadvertently heavy-handed, but a lot of the dishes cannot be consumed in its entirety.
– Ahi tuna. Some of the worst tuna tartare I've had. It's extremely salty, a tad bit too spicy. Very overwhelming – can't even taste anymore after eating this. The "crepe" that came with it was just ok.
– Scallops were cooked well. Sauce on the bottom was salty. Artichoke was not cooked well.
– Trout was salty.
– Pommes puree – good texture, buttery, but very salty.
– Mushrooms – salty.
At this point, everything is just so salty that you're downing five cups of water and wondering what the hell is going on. On top of that, our waitress was not a very good one. She was not attentive and didn't seem like she wanted to be there and everyone is a nuisance to her. I think if this place fix their seasoning and do some editing/refining to their menu, this place would be wonderful, but I don't think I will be making a visit any time soon.
Dirty French is such a great name for this restaurant bc it is French cuisine with "dirty" twists that make all of the dishes so interesting and new but with a hint of the classic.
This was a 5 star experience from the start.
First the service… We weren't happy about the location of our table and they so sweetly moved us to an amazing table once it became available. Then I ordered a cocktail that just wasn't for me, so without hesitating they switched it for the gimlet. BTW the Gimlet was an amazing fresh, strong and delicious summer cocktail on the rocks.
It's not the fact that they responded to our requests that surprised me but how sweetly they did it without making us feel uncomfortable. No one wants to be THAT person. At least I don't, but at the same time I don't want to settle for something I really don't like. And honestly I could really tell that they want everyone in the restaurant to have a great experience.
Throughout the meal the maitre de would stop by with a question or a funny anecdote. Just lovely.
The rest of this review should be about the food but honestly everything was so delicious that I don't want to waste your time. Just go and order a little of everything.
Make sure not to miss the tuna tartar, carpaccio, foie gras, short rib, and the side of carrots with chickpeas. And don't be surprised to taste a lot of twists highlighted by middle eastern and Mediterranean spices. Ah it was all so different and delicious I would recommend for anyone to go and enjoy an expensive yet worthy meal.
Also!!! The soundtrack was great!!!! All movie soundtrack hits and throwbacks from the 80s. Think dirty dancing, flash dance, st Elmo's fire, Toto Africa, etc. So fun!
Great spot in terms of food, ambiance and service. Tried the trout, grilled oysters, tuna, lamb and flatbread. Also digged the chocolate cake with coconut. Very cool vibe at the restaurant – it's kind of like going to a hipster bistro. Overall I'm a fan!!!
Oh my, for the first time in a long time I did indeed feel "the generation gap" or as its called nowadays "the genterfaction of the milenials" at Dirty French this super sleek, very good french restaurant in New Yorks lower eastside.
As loud as a place could be without pushing the decibel barrior, as soon as I walked in I knew my dinner would be conversation free. There was no way I could shout this loud or remotely hear anybody including the person sitting ten inches from my right ear.
With that, I loved the food and thought the service was spectacular.
The menu was classic french cuisine with some cool twists and turns you probably wouldn't find eating on the Rive Gauche in Paris, thus the name "Dirty French".
I opted for a white shrimp appetizer and a very unique spare rib main. Both were really really good. My three other table mates (whom I was desperately trying to lip read) ordered appetizers and mains they devoured.
The desserts were wonderful (Ah, the French) and the wines were superb with the help of their Uber cool sommelier.
So food, service, drink all five star quality. Even the ambiance was nice! It's just difficult eating at what I'd compare to a Led Zeppelin concert at 8,000 decibels……Opps, I just showed my age.
I consider myself technologically savvy, but for the longest time I had the filming locations from Master of None pop up every time I opened Google maps on my phone. Dirty French always caught my eye as one of the must try eateries on the show.
We had a late Monday reservation – 9 pm – and it was still completely packed.
I went with a larger group, and our waitress steered us toward splitting a vast range of starters and mains – family style.
I was a bit nervous about all of the splitting, but the team reassured me that they would let me know what options were gluten-free. I was thrilled to learn that I could eat everything we ordered, save for the bread and the fried chicken & crepes from the chicken and crepes.
Unannounced they brought out warm and delicious gluten free bread for me to eat with the fromage blanc that I had been eye-ing jealously.
Everything we ate was DELICIOUS but the standouts for me were the mussels, the trout and the green beans.
In an entirely different standout category were the Pommes Puree (mashed potatoes) – oh my god, potentially the most amazing thing I have ever eaten. They look thin, almost soupy, so we were a bit suspicious, but good lord these were the creamiest, most buttery, amazingly delicious potatoes I have ever had. Our group polished them off and ordered another serving.
I would say this is a solid 4.5 stars as the food was that spectacular – it was just a bit loud, and a bit slow – great spot to splurge on amazing food in a great atmosphere though. Would definitely love to come back for a special night out.
Where do I start with this amazing restaurant? Well the most memorable part of the night is the flapper at the surf to you before your meal. I know that sounds crazy but believe me it is really delicious. The drinks are strong unique and amazing. Came here with a bunch of girls and we all love the restaurant very much. The atmosphere is sexy and sultry but exciting as well.
We tried almost everything on the menu and everything was absolutely amazing. Some say the food is too salty and yes it can be a little heavy on the salt but that didn't matter to us too much. I personally have the duck entrée which was beyond amazing. Whoever heard of dry aged duck? The orange sauce that came with the duck was flavorful pungent and bright.
Honestly everything we ordered was delicious and it's hard to pinpoint which one was my favorite but it's worth trying anything that gets you going. Love this place!
My daughter and I came here during my recent visit to see her for the July 4th holiday. My daughter had been here for lunch and was anxious to try it for dinner. Service was a little spotty, which was strange considering it wasn't busy and we did have a reservation. Food was very good and nice decor.
