Yes please. Got delivery while recording at Figure 8 studios just down the road and it was sublime. I ordered the special with 2 samosas and a main dish with complementary naan. Had the Chana masala and veggie samosas, very nice overall. Samosas were a tad salty but pleasant, especially with both sauces. Chana was perfection – great texture and so fresh with a bit of cilantro on top. Didn't get the yogurt unfortunately, even though my order had it in there!
Naan was probably the most disappointing of the items – not very crispy and didn't have any kind of buttery goodness on it. Warm and chewy though!
Good price for the amount of food you get! I'd definitely come back. Recommended!
Ordered the Mango Chicken and naan for delivery tonight. It arrived after 30 minutes and was fresh and hot.
The Mango Chicken was spicy and sweet. It was delicious. The only downside is that the pieces of meat were a mixture of white and dark meat. When I usually eat Indian, I prefer chunks of white meat. So the tender, fatty pieces were a little disappointing. Also I wish there had been a little more rice, you get a lot of sauce and not enough rice.
The food was decent and the price was right but it wasn't my favorite. Good to have in the neighborhood though.
I was pretty shocked by the food at this place. Wow. It was amazing. By far, the best Indian food I've had. However, there were a few "downfalls" – read on.
Veggie Pakora. Yum! You can see it actually had real veggies in it, which unfortunately I'm not used to. It was really tasty, even more so with the tamarind & chutney.
Lamb Masala (dinner special). Sooo good. The sauce had real tomato – thick and rich. You can tell they didn't just throw a ton of butter or oil in it to give it some taste. High quality.
Lamb Kurma. My favorite. The sauce, again, tasted amazing. It was REAL sauce with real quality ingredients. Rich, creamy and almond-y!
The lamb in both dishes blew me away. It was the most tender and perfectly cooked lamb I've ever had.
The naan was fine. Naan is naan to me.
I did notice it was $2.75 for plain naan though, which seemed a tiny bit high.
Galub jamon. …..usually 3 balls. It only came with 2. They were okay.
First impressions: there was no one in the restaurant for dine in except my boyfriend and I. At 6pm on a Saturday. Weird.
Lots of takeout here. There was a man waiting for his order and started causing a scene because he was waiting a half hour when they told him 5 minutes. It was uncomfortable and the establishment should be on top of their game so customers don't have to worry if a fight is going to break out.
They don't give you the deep fried lentil wafers at the beginning of your meal. Most Indian places do.
The waitstaff was kind of a mess. We asked for more rice and then didn't he never got back to us. Someone else asked a half hour later and he got it for us.
Our total was around $40.
Because of the food, I will be back. Definitely.
We stopped here by chance and I am glad we did. From start to finish the service was incredible! The staff was very warm, welcoming, and attentive.
We both enjoyed our meal which consisted of lamb sagwaala and chicken vindaloo. The garlic naan had and abundance of garlic (which is a good thing!) We ended our meal with rice pudding even though they also offered us a free sweet dessert at the end. What a lovely experience!
My standards for Indian food are pretty low to average considering that I've only been eating it now for about a year and a half to 2 years (glances lovingly at her boyfriend who convinced her to try it and created a little addict). Whenever I eat Indian food it usually turns into a love-fest as I proclaim how every morsel on my plate is delicious and worthy of my praise.
…When this doesn't happen, then it's safe to assume one of 3 things:
1.) It's generic/unmemorable/ehhhhhhh ooooookaaaaaaaay.
2.) It's disgusting/inedible and I want my money back!
3.) OMGSOSPICYCANTBREATHEOHGAWDSOMEONEGETMEMILK.
In the case of India Place it's option #1 (lucky for them, lol).

What brought me here originally was being hungry with Ingrid S. after a Yelp event at a nearby dessert/cocktail bar (*waves enthusiastically at Spirited). We were both craving Indian, this place was open and they had a decent $15 dinner special – so they won our business.
Upon entering we seated ourselves by the window and waited for a while (longer than we should have for sure) for menus to be brought over…despite us waving at them when we sat down and there not being any customers inside…yep.
The $15 special was basically limited to na'an (which I paid extra for because I realy wanted cheese stuffed na'an), one of their meat entrees and a sharable side of white basmati rice.
Ms. Ingrid went for their Lamb Vindaloo and requested it be spicy and I went with Murgh Malai Kabab Chicken. We also tried a side of Ka-Chori even though we had ordered the Aloo Papri which was like an Indian version of poutine but with tamarind flavors, chickpeas, potatoes and creamy cheesy stuff that wasn't paneer. It was interesting but if I never ate it again I wouldn't lose sleep over it.
My Murgh Malai Kabab Chicken entree was lackluster (it should be super, insanely juicy!) and so was my cheese na'an – it barely had cheese and it was crumbly instead of seared to the inside of the bread. I know plenty of places with better service and better food that is less than $15 so I felt a bit ripped off.
On the bright side, our portions were generous and we basically had food leftover
Would I eat here again? Sure, if I'm desperate and no one else is open. Other than that…meh.
Food was delicious: samosas and tandoori chicken. Only issue was the wait (delivery), which was around an hour. I love the no-frills name. The food speaks for itself, so there's no need for a fancy, authentic-sounding title.
Recently came here on a whim with a friend from out of town. What a let down. This is one of those Indian restaurants where every dish tastes the same- like cumin, coriander, and curry powder. Not cool, not cool. To make matters worse the service was rude, when he man seated us he asked if we knew what we wanted. He hadn't even given us menus yet. Then 10 seconds later he came over and asked us again. Give me a break man. After we ordered we were finally left alone. Our food arrived without the naan we ordered. The naan showed up over 10 minutes later. Our food was by this time tepid. Again, not cool. My advice to India place is to get your act together. This won't fly in Brooklyn, especially with establishments like Gandhi in Lefferts Gardens setting the bar so high. I won't give India place another shot.
Walking on Vanderbilt checking out eateries with "A" health ratings, India Place looked and smelled inviting with the front window open to the street. I popped and asked if they could make things dairy-free and mildly spiced. Yep! They were very happy to accommodate and made my companion and I feel very welcome. The prices are reasonable, and the Yelp deal was a nice surprise. I had Vegetable Samosas and the Vegetarian Combo with Aloo Motar Gobi (peas, potato, cauliflower), Chana Shag (chickpeas, spinach), something else with mushrooms, and rice. It came with yogurt but I had that switched out for mango chutney. I also had naan. True to their word, the heat was gentle. Everything was fresh and delicious and perfectly flavored. We absolutely loved the food and appreciated the attentive service. The whole restaurant including the restroom was very clean. We'll certainly be back soon.
