  1. While Midtown West in theory has a lot of restaurants, it frequently feels like a dead zone to us for solid vegetarian offerings. That's where Kashkaval Garden comes in – the menu is now just like the former Kashkaval (which was previously just a few doors down and now closed) – heavy on the cold & warm veggie tapas items, cheese and chocolate fondue, a few heartier meat and veggie entree options and a wine, beer and cocktail menu. There's even a happy hour until (I believe) 7pm.

Back to the tapas, they're very well-priced – without drinks, a table of two could walk away feeling full for ~$26, just a bit more than a random fast-casual place on the corner for a true sit-down, candlelit experience. The atmosphere is dark but still well-lit with close together tables and friendly service. And the food never disappoints! We've actually only ever gone the veggie tapas route and never the fondues (we've seen many others order this though), and every time they are fresh and filling. The brussel sprouts are perfectly sautéed and gigantic, the piyaz is always perfectly tangy and refreshing, the olive tapenade has a bite and a strong taste but is delicious for dipping, etc. Each tapas has its own flavor, but they all work very well together on a tasting plate. All tasting plates, no matter if you order one or six tapas, come with free pita (served warm). Price per tapas decreases as you order more.

A fantastic and well-priced spot for reliably tasty veggie dishes.

  2. I don't want to post a great review because I don't want everyone to know about this place and then the wait for a table will be even worse on a Friday night but here it goes. While I am still sad that the sister restaurant  had to close- I LOVE coming to Kashkaval for dinner. The poutine alone is worth the trip. Pair it with the kale salad with a skewer or two on top and you have a wonderful meal for two people that comes in around $25 if you don't drink. If you do drink, stick to the menu. The happy hour wines are actually pretty good but the bar is lacking. Last time I was there I ordered a dirty gin martini and was told the gin I wanted was out. Then she comes back with a martini with one olive and tells me that there was no vermouth but the bar tender said if I didn't like it she would make me something else. So I drank about half of this glass of gin (not really a martini and not dirty) and by this point we had finished our food. When the bill came my friend asked the waitress why I was even charged for this drink and the waitress said "well I said if you didn't like it she would make something else". Overall it didn't ruin my day or anything but it is just bad business. If you can't make the drink just don't make it and comp me something else to make up for the fact that your full bar can not even make a proper martini.

Aside from that-  the place is loud, crowded and dark. But it totally works even for someone who is older than most of the people hanging out in Hells Kitchen.

  3. Kashkaval has some very good tapas to go with their whole wheat pita.  My favorite was the beet skordalia (beet, potato, almond, and garlic mixed into a puree).  I also liked the asparagus hummus and the tzatiki which included tiny cubes of cucumber that made it extra refreshing.  I was hoping to be wowed by the babaganoush, but found it to actually be a bit too bitter for me.  The filet mignon and octopus skewers were really good.  I would skip the chicken Adana and turkey meatball next time (too dry).  Service was great and the place is charming.

  4. It's a good place to meet up with friends and share some tapas! Please note: By tapas, they are really just different types of hummus and dips for pita bread.. They are delicious. The drinks are good.. I wasn't impressed with the entrees or kebabs.. The service was very good! Our waiter was so friendly and polite. I really like the seats by the window.. It was a lovely experience overall!

  5. Been here a few times and each time it gets a little better, mainly because of understanding what and how much to order.

Go with the kebabs and get a variety as well as a mezze plate. Hard to go wrong considering how much food you'll get and the various combinations.

Great for groups- not so much solo or for a couple in my opinion.

  6. Definitely 5 stars, and I'm stingy with my stars.

I highly, highly recommend the kale salad. It's my go-to along with 478532 menu items. But really, it's just the right light dressing with figs and Parmesan cheese sliced on top. I'd also recommend the meze appetizer where you can select 4 items. I recommend: artichokes, spinach and feta, hummus, and the beet or olive tapenade.

What I like about this place most is that it's consistent. You go in- consistent. You order out- consistent. They're always out of Brussel sprouts- consistent.

Must try, but not much room inside so come at off peak hours. Or, grubhub.

  7. I blacked out and the next thing I knew I was ordering the grilled halloumi cheese sticks, spreads, and skewers. If it weren't for the sheer feeling of stomach exploding from stuffing my face I wouldn't have fully woke up. Alright, exaggerations aside, their food is quite delicious and the drinks are equally as pleasing.

Grilled cheese sticks were ordered based on reviewers but it did not raise my "must recommend" flag at all so try if you're curious (like I was) then order.
Tie for the best spread: beets skordalia and walnut pepper; both so yummy I cannot choose a winner
As for skewers, get the octopus and kofte.
Drinks wise, you can't go wrong so just pick randomly and you're all set!

  8. This place was AMAZING!
    Loved it!

They have a flat price for a certain number of dishes and it makes the most fiscal sense to stick with ordering in that quantity.

Make sure to get the Grilled Halloumi Cheese Sticks, although better to share, they were quite filling but so interesting and good.

I was excited to see Beet Skordalia (I loooove beets!) which seemed like a hummus type dish when eating it, except it's not hummus. All the "Tapas" are cold and you dip in the pita bread.

We also tried some skewers, so the amount of food was plenty. It would have been fun with a larger group so that we could try more.

It's definitely worth getting the larger size option for the wine. Much better deal. I'd just recommend that you sample a couple before buying the large size to make sure it's to your liking.

If I lived in the area, this would definitely be one of my go-to spots!
