I never did like the Jim Dandy's in NA but my kids were hankering for a hot dog so we tried the Rutherford spot (where some friends of mine swear by their ribs). It started promising… clean, spacious and friendly staff.
Unfortunately the food just wasn't good. It's pretty hard for a toddler to not want to eat a hot dog but the deep-fried ones at Jim Dandy's did the trick. (Hey – maybe a few mores times here and my kids will finally buckle and want to eat their vegetables?)
A little taste of nostalgia for me. I used to frequent the North Arlington location a while back in my younger years. Until it got closed down and replaced by a 7-11 (like we need more of those). Luckily the Rutherford location still stands.
Most people come here for the ribs but I haven't tried them. Not a big rib fan in general. I usually get the burgers. Mainly the bacon cheeseburger. Ordered one tonight but don't remember if I told them I wanted cheese on it. Not a big deal though; the burger was still good. I don't know what the bacon and the beef are seasoned with but it's delectable. It proved to be good even without the cheese which is a testament to how good this place really is. Real salty and savory flavor for me. Bacon is cooked just right. The bun is kind of a soft deli style round roll. Very soft and filling. Fries are good too but I decided on just a burger tonight.
The decor is kind of funny. Western style with this crazy wooden cut out pig that greets you. A real cowboy type of atmosphere that is a prelude to meaty bbq goodness gracing your plate.
This place is one of my favorite bbq joints around. I wouldn't be coming to this bbq joint for so many years if I didn't like it so much. The tri-state area is known more for their pizza but if your looking for good bbq around here this place is worth checking out.
Talk about home of the killer ribs! My family and I have driven by pass here many times and finally we decided to stop by for dinner. There's no parking lot so bring quarters for street parking if you're there before 6pm.
As I walked in, I noticed the barn-like decor with dim lights and wooden wall panels. There some booths and tables/chairs and more seatings in the back pass the cashier counter.
We ordered 1/2 chicken and ribs that come with side order of baked potato w/butter and sour cream, cole slaw and toasted garlic bread. The ribs were very tasty and succulent. The bone falls right off. The bbq chicken is a little dry. The California 1/4 burger with fries is ok. It's Kaiser burger buns. I've had better burgers from grease trucks. The veggie wrap is mediocre. There unlimited refill drinks at the soda fountain.
The kids cheese quesadilla meal is decent size and only kids meal combo comes with a fountain drink.
This place is known for its ribs and I can see why. I would highly recommend this place for ribs and ribs only. All other food menu we've tasted was edible but not the best we've had tasted. There's specials on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings on ribs and chicken. Next time, we'll try their wings.
My four stars are for their ribs and services. The place has friendly service and although there may not seem to have many customers on a Saturday night dining but there are many take out orders. During our dining, we noticed phone orders and many brown bags packed and ready for delivery boy.
