  1. Went here with one other person for lunch.

The service was excellent on par with if not better than in much more expensive places.

We each had juice (well Tamek sour cherry is delicious) which turned out to be 3 bucks or 350 each which is a bit more than I'd usually have to pay.

Anyway, we each had the 12.95 lunch special.

I started with the spinach with yogurt while he got the hummus. My main was the stuffed cabbage while his was the doner plate.

We were served some fresh sesame seed pide with olive oil (herbed) which was refilled whenever needed.

Both appetizers as always were large. The spinach was perfectly sauteed down and was quite large. The hummus had a perfect texture. Both had a single fresh olive in the middle.

The main dishes arrived and were also pretty large.

The stuffed cabbage consisted of three small ones instead of one large one which I did not mind. The tomato sauce was well flavored without being overwhelming. There was some yogurt sauce with a little bit of what appeared to be sumac on top.

The doner plate was large and delicious. The meat was more tender than in almost all places I've been in. The rice was as well flavored as other places. There were also grilled tomatoes and a whole grilled pepper that I didn't try. He also asked for white sauce which was delivered fast.

There was also a piece of flatbread on there (lavash?)

The food was good enough that I decided to get some kunafeh after hearing it only takes 10 minutes to prepare.

The usually saccharine sweet dish was well balanced for once with some pistachios and a little bit of I think kaymek on top.

    Excellent place. 4.7

  2. I typically don't go for Turkish food, but kudos to the ads that they are putting out there which enticed us to try for the first time. Surprisingly big restaurant considering the small store front.

Service was great, all of them were friendly and enthusiastic and knowledgeable with whatever questions we threw at them.

We got a Shepard's Salad, which was refreshing and a pretty big portion. The small Mixed Meze Plate was a delight which included 6 samplers of their appetizers. My favorite was the smoked eggplant salad, eggplant with tomato sauce and spicy mashed vegetables. There were also babaganush, hummus, and spinach tarator. We liked almost everything except the spinach appetizer which was too heavy on the creamy yogurt mix. Next we ordered the Mixed Grill Platter which consisted of adana, meatballs, beef shish, lamb donor, chicken shish and served with a side of rice and salad. I love getting to try the different variations of meat. Surprisingly everything was marinated well and very good. The lamb donor was our least favorite compared to the others. We also ordered the Lamp Chops. This was so so good I would eat it again! The lamp chops were juicy, succulent and moist and seasoned perfectly. Food is a solid 5!

For dessert, we checked-in for a free pistachio baklava, but they also let us sample two other cookies. I never had these desserts before and I can say that I really like the baklava! I also enjoyed the less sweet version of the cookie – wonder if they will ever add to their menu because I would love to have it again.

Considering the huge portions and yummy taste, I think it's a great value meal.

  3. The staff are friendly, the food is delicious, the place is fancy and it is all for an inexpensive price. I really liked the interior design, and the buffalo wings! The Mediterreanean salad was fresh and filling,  yet,  as Turkish men, we had to try the Adana wrap, and we weren't disappointed at all. It was flavourous and tasted just the way it should.  Only the dessert was not good enough ,(after setting the bar a little bit high) but I think they will do something about it.

I will definitely go there again. If you like or are curious about Turkish food,  this place is one of best options.
    Try the salmon!

  4. Meet Galata Restaurant everyone 🙂

This place used to be "Ali Baba " for many years and I had been here before. They then opened up a new location with the terrace and this location were kind of out of fashion and definitely needed a new brand and face so here it is. Still Turkish cuisine but new owners, new menu. If any one knows Opera Cafe and Lounge in Brooklyn, this is a sister restaurant to them. It may give you and idea about the quality of the food and service.

From the appetizers, I would recommend babaganush, fried calf's liver and zucchini pancakes. Cigar rolls are good too. They do have vegan dishes, but if you are a meat-head like me, make sure to order Lamb Shank. It comes with mashed potato. My father cooks it so good and they are almost as good as his 🙂 My friend got chicken pacatta which was also very nice. Chicken breast with some special sauce, asparagus and mozzarella cheese on top, steamed veggies on side.

Next time I will try the pan seared tilapia or salmon scaloppini. So fish lovers, bookmark the spot.

If you can spare some space in your stomach then go for home made chocolate souffle or traditional ' Kunefe ' dessert.

Prices are quite reasonable for Manhattan. We paid around $70 for 2 people. 3 appetizers, 2 entrees and 1 desert to share.

  5. We were looking for a lite  lunch on Memorial Day when we noticed the sign board for Galata showing $8.50 for a wrap, fries and soda. After checking to see what wraps were included we decided this was what we were looking for. We we not disappointed. We both got the Chicken Adana wrap ( ground chicken flavored with red bell peppers, parsley, seasoned with paprika and grilled) this was in a wrap with lettuce, tomato and you can get white and red sauce on the side. The wrap was mixed perfect with just the right amount of chicken, veggies and moisture as to keep the wrap from falling apart when eaten. The fries were nice, nothing special but you can't substitute the fries, but may I suggest to they offer side of salad as a choice in the future. The owner checked on our meal a few times and was very friendly.  The other lunch special was a 2 course for only $12.95 and they offer it Monday-Friday 12-4 pm.  There regular/ dinner menus looks very nice and based on how much we liked the wraps we will most definitely be back for dinner.  They also have a very nice cocktail menu with full bar
