The food was really good- we had the caesar salad with salmon (pretty darn good!) and breakfast potatoes, bacon on the side. Service was close to terrible and I didn't think they were that busy. Good beer selection, lots on tap.
My best friend and I went out for dinner last night to celebrate me passing my board exam! He picked out Austin Public because apparently Sunday nights are Karaoke Nights. Oh and this place used to be the Johnny Rockets on Austin Street. I have to say, entertainment wise, this place is pretty neat. It's a 2 drinks minimum to go up and sing… (however, waiter said it was ok if we just ordered dinner). We ordered the Parmesan garlic wings, skirt steak and pepper on a flatbread, and a burger. Overall, the food was ok and it was mainly typical bar food. I say just come in on Sunday nights and order some drinks and sing some karaoke if that's your thing.
CG and I stopped by for some food and drinks before a show at Forest Hills Stadium. Tons of pre-show peeps inside just like us but we had no wait for a table.
We both had the California chicken sandwich and some grapefruit shandy.
The shandy was wonderfully refreshing in this heat wave. The chicken sandwich was surprisingly great for this type of spot. The ciabatta was toasted and so fresh and airy. There was a ton of juicy grilled chicken and arugula. The spread of mild goat cheese and avocado chunks added the necessary creamy element that makes a great sandwich. The fries were piping hot and crispy. We left quite satisfied.

Post Independence Day 2016 summons me for bar food and some wine. While in the Forest Hills, Queens nabe for a doctor appointment, lunch for Power of One (me, myself and I) summoned:
Cobb salad $12.00 (served with avocado which I pushed to the side untouched)
Riesling glass $9.00
Quality of food is good with adequate dressing and fresh without any browning. The egg yolk was uncooked thoroughly which I did not like and not a fan of avocado. I arrived at high noon and it was nearly empty with the exception of a few strays like myself. I sat at the bar, undisturbed, and used the hooks under the bar counter to placed my baggage. The sky light was sprightly lively to emit the sun's rays in the middle of the restaurant. Facility is clean and contains all the basic amenities. Customer service is attentive and courteous. Price is standard average for NYC standards. Full service bar and yes, Austin Public carries wine for the vino aficionados.
Upon entering the hostess (a blonde woman) was kinda bleh. Just looked at us in a way that made me unsure if she was an employee or not. Not welcoming at all. The waiter was friendly. A few hiccups in the service – my daughters pasta marinara came out as Mac and cheese, my mother was given regular fries instead of sweet potato. We also saw something similar happen to another table, so without any of those they would have gotten a solid 4 stars.
Large area with tables upon entering and the bar area is towards the back. Love this because I don't feel un welcomed coming in with my toddler. A kids menu is also available which had about 6 or so options – good ones too.
Truffle and scallion mac and cheese ($12) – super decadent and creamy. Perfect amount of said scallion and truffle oil.
Mussels in white wine and garlic ($13) – HUGE portion and delicious. I'm not huge on mussels period, but I enjoyed these. Should be served with more bread though.
Buffalo wings ($12) – perfect. Just hot enough, without being overbearing. I ordered some extra celery and carrots because not much came with.
Smoked mozzarella and BBQ pulled pork sandwich with sweet potato fries ($16.50) (tried, not ordered) was really good. Not too much smokey flavor, just a hint.
Pork chop with potatoes gratin and pickled cabbage ($20) (tried not ordered) tasted like ham on crack. We had to do a double take because we actually thought it was ham. Pickled cabbage was a little too caramelized for my taste but the gratin potatoes were yum.
Signs advertised for A Monday night lobster dinner – only 19.99 so we may be back to try that. Throughly enjoyed the food and our time here.
Came by here on a Friday night after smoking hookah in xhale to grab a couple of drinks with friends, and we had such a wonderful time!
We wanted to sit at the bar, but couldn't because it was full, however we were immediately seated on one of the dinner tables, and a few minutes later our server arrived to take our orders. Everyone was pretty friendly and the ambiance was perfect for a Friday night. But not too loud, to the point where you couldn't communicate with the person sitting across from you.
The drinks were amazing and the service was so fast. Our server kept checking up on us, brought tissues and offered to refill drinks as soon as we finished.
Don't see any reason to give this place less than 5 stars, definitely will be coming back!

I read the mixed review prior to going but since we were celebrating a birthday I decided to go anyway. I had a great first impression of Austin Public.The big bar and old fashioned decor caught my eye. They had booths and tables at which most were full. We didn't come for dinner just drinks so we went to the bar. Every seat was taken but people were crowding around the bar area. We flagged down the bartender and ordered ourselves some nice ice cold brewskies! What a great selection of beers both domestic and imported I tell ya. Here's where it all went down hill for me……da da da dum!!
My husband had just passed me my tall and full beer when a waiter quickly passed by me and hit my arm. Beer fell all over the floor, on my jacket and dripping down my arm! He turned around said sorry and continued to walk away. Actually he was practically running to get to the other side of the room! JERK! A minute later he passed by us again. I said excuse me but can you get me some napkins. You spilled the beer all over me and the least you could do is get me a napkin. His response to me was well what do you expect me to do I am working here. Boy did my blood boil!!!! I bit my tongue and took the napkins. No customer service! He clearly does not know how to treat customers.
The bartenders are nice. They all have awesome foreign accents! One bartender made me a delicious jolly rancher shot. Around 10PM a live band played. They sounded really good!
Austin Street has many bars and restaurants. I am not going to bother coming back here again.
I had a good time here and have zero complaints (more 3.5 but I'm going to round up)
We were a large party of 9 and were promptly seated when we arrived. The music was spot-on with the DJ playing some great dance music.
The service was decent and we ordered a ton of food and drinks and everything tasted decent. I mean this isn't award winning Michelin star or the best gastropub food you'll have in your life, so keeping that in mind: the flatbread was yummy, AP sample platter has everything in it that you need if you're group eating (calamari was disappointing – but I digress, I have never been satisfied with calamari). Nachos weren't so great (I've had better nachos at taco bell).
The dark n' stormy was delicious. I would come again with friends if I'm on Austin street because it's certainly a better time than Station House and Exo, but I wouldn't go out of my way to get here.
