Egg

“Loved the eggs Rothko, but sub out the kale for the addictive candied bacon.”

“Best cheese grits and that's a huge compliment coming from a southern girl like myself 😉
I don't know how they do it but hands down second best scrambled eggs other than my mamas !”

“They even had crayons on the tables for toddlers to play with while parents attempted to dine peacefully and enjoy their food.”

  1. I came here on a holiday weekday. I wasn't interested first because of all the bad reviews. But I was too cold to go anywhere too far. Surprisingly, the service wasn't bad at all and the food was good. Just heads up, all the chicken sandwich stuff are only available after 1pm. I ordered the egg Rothko. It has brioche with egg inside and cheese on top. It's crispy and melting. I love it. It comes with tomato, and a side of meat or kale. My friend got chorizo with toast, pickle, and egg with your choice. All the dishes are around $12. Only French press coffee is available, no latte. Anyway, it's a good place to come if you are nearby, but def doesn't worth a special trip or long hour wait.

  2. It seemed to be very popular by local people.  I visited during the weekday after lunch hrs but people kept coming.

It looked like an urban cafe but they serve pretty good foods and drinks there.  I did not eggs but the kale soup which came with a corn bread.  The corn bread was good!  Glass wine was decent as well.

  3. Great breakfast. Everything is simple here and the quality in ingredients and perfectly cooked food made this an enjoyable meal. I had eggs over easy with grits and kale. A huge plate that kept me satisfied until dinner. My daughter had a brioche with a hole in the center with an egg and melted cheese. Need to get this next time. Delicious and decadent.
Friendly service. Cool place. Wish I had a weekend spot like this!

    Four Stars

Gastronauts Elk dinner for their 10th anniversary.

    Course 1:
The Elk Tartare was best that I have had in a long time.  The meat was melt-in-your-mouth tender which balanced with the taste of onion and sea salt. The texture paired delightfully agains the crispy crostini and a root chip.

    Course 2:
The elk and duck liver pate was equally delicious.  The elk gave an intriguing "foot funk" but the duck gave the traditional creamy elegance.  The mushroom gave a chewy contrast to both the toast point and the mousse.

    Course 3:
The Elk Tongue was most inventive dish. The appendage was fried crispy and had a Pastrami seasoning. It was "served with its diet" meaning the foliage that a deer would consume.

    Course 4:
Elk Ragu with Pappardelle pasta. The pasta was al dente. The meat was fatty, salty, and filled with flavor. My only complaint is that I wish that there was more.

    Course 5:
The Elk Steak was seared with bright red center. They left a piece of fat on it which made all the difference for me. It was tender, moist, and packed with interesting nuanced flavors. The Parsnip Tater Tot was a bit sweet and less crunchy than its potato cousin but was overall tasty.  The Pistachio puree had a nice creaminess to the dish.

    Course 6:
Farro Ice Cream with Orange Zest. It was basically vanilla with some puffed cereal and hint of orange flavoring. Good but nothing special.

The service was out-of-this-world good. The staff greeted me upon entry, offered me a drink before sitting, tray passed appetizer with a systematic precision, offered a choice of Cote du Rhone or Reisling before the meal, served and bussed plates attentively, refilled wine and water without prompt, and were overall friendly.

I will have to come back here for Brunch.

  5. Three and a half?

I suppose I'm holding back the last half star because it was soooo pretentious. I mean, I know we are in Williamsburg, but still, you don't have to be that hipster ALL the time.

I got the eggs with cheesy grits and kale which really were quite good. Eggs were well cooked (surprising that people can mess this up, but they do!). Grits were the best – well seasoned but not over salty. Kale not over cooked.

The coffee was ok. For a $3 single cup French press I would have hoped for more, but it wasn't bad.

Pretty busy. Even on a Wednesday morning. So that's a thing to know. Generally a clean and light atmosphere.

  6. This place always has crazy long waits for brunch, which is why I hadn't bothered to go until a blizzard struck and no one was out. No issues at all with the service (perhaps because hardly anyone was there), but the food was poor to average, I would say. My boyfriend got the biscuits and gravy, which tasted as if someone had dumped an entire container of pepper into it. Also, despite being slathered in gravy, the biscuits were incredibly dry. I ordered the 2 eggs any style (scrambled in my case) with toast and hash browns. They do say on the menu that they soft scramble their eggs, but even with that warning, I thought mine were too runny. The toast was OK, although one slice was sort of burned. The hash browns were unremarkable. Honestly the best thing I had was the orange juice.

In addition, I feel compelled to note that the music they were playing was seriously some of the worst music we'd ever heard–terrible ambient crap with ridiculous vocal wailings that sounded like a combination of whale songs and someone yelling "yoo-hoo!!" over and over again. Pretty much all we talked about during the meal was how godawful the music was.

There are far better brunch options in the neighborhood with less annoying music. No need to come back here.

  7. Solid breakfast experience.

Had the eggs and chorizo plate. Both were great and the chorizo had a delicious homemade pickled jalapeno sauce on it. The plate came with toast and tasty berry jam.

The free beignets that arrived while we were waiting for our food was another plus.

Will be back again to check out other options.

  8. I discovered this place by accident. I came with a party of five and while we had to wait a little long to be seated (totally our fault, our party arrived late), the hostess was nice and patient with us. It was really busy for brunch, complete with a crowd outside waiting, and she dealt with it just fine. When we were seated, our drinks came to us really quickly. We entertained each other with crayons and table paper, but we didn't have to wait long at all. That's a plus considering how busy it was! Another plus was the price. Everything was reasonably priced. For five people, brunch came up to under $100. The food was good, too. Anything chorizo seemed to be a hit with my party, but I decided against that and had the grits and eggs with a side of kale. I wished the kale wasn't so bland. The grits made up for it, though. There was just enough cheese in them. You gotta be careful with ordering grits out sometimes. I never seem to get them served right, but Egg knows what they're doing. Keep it up.
