  1. I used to come here to get the squid for lunch. It's half a block away from the office I used to work. Recently the company invited me for a Lunar year dinner. I was very excited to join the party because I never said no to food, mmm yum yum! The company arranged a nice dinner set-up. A few of our colleagues are Koreans so they know about the food pretty well. I do too, remember one of my 3 wedding receptions was held at a Korean restaurant *:)  and hubby and I go to Korean restaurants once a while too, so we are not that naive! I had a seafood bibimbap. Along with our individual order, I tried galbi, beef tartar and all the side dishes. The bibimbap came with crispy rice at bottom, just the way I like it. Tasty! I didn't use a lot of sauce to mix in. Beef tartar was presented nicely. I tried it and it was good. Galbi was quite good too. Our long table was full with food and everyone enjoyed the meal. The waitress who took care of our table was very good. It's right by Rockefeller, so anyone who's going to Rockefeller area, stop by this place. It's a big place, you go all the way in the back and you have to go downstairs to dine. It has a small bar area for drinkers, you won't miss out on anything, don't worry. Enjoy!

  2. A neat food court-style Korean restaurant. They have a good list of items in the menu including stew, fried rice, dumplings and a variety of banchans. I like the convenience, very quick and fast. The price point is good and gives generous portions. It gets busy during lunch hours, but the line moves fast and they Have plenty of tables and seats. They also have grab-and-go dishes like gimbab and sweet and spicy chicken.

What I liked about this place is that they had a self-serve Kimchi station that lets you take as much as you want. They had three types of kimchi: Napa cabbage kimchi, radish kimchi and pickled cabbage. Their kimchi is decent, but it's a bit too sweet. My thinking is that they made it a little sweeter and less spicier to cater towards the general public.

    Food:
Kimchi Fried Rice w/ Chicken – You get to choose between beef, chicken and vegetables. It came out nicely fried with an egg on top (sunny side up). It was good, but not mind-blowing.

  3. I like this place! My office is on 43rd and this place has the most authentic Korean food in midtown (unless I walk 10+ blocks down to 32rd Street Korean Town).

Other than a restaurant, this place functions more like a food court, where you order food from a limited menu items, wait for them to call your name when food is done, and then you go pay and take out (or you can choose to sit there as well).

Last time I had the chicken soup – I like it. Taste as good as I had in Shilla, a restaurant right on the K-Town street. At here you can also have some kimchi for free.

I saw they offer 2-3 dishes meals as well. I wanna come by soon to try this too.

  4. I actually literally LOVE this place. It was a neat layout, floor you come in on was to go and a cafeteria like set up, floor beneath was sit down meals.
We got 1 kimbap (), tried it, amazed, and immediately bought 4 more.
(Keep in mind that I am completely obsessed with all things Korean, including the food)
I also got ddeobokki which was amazing.
It seems to attract a lot of different kinds of customers, especially young Korean businessmen/women. It is very convenient for on the go

  5. Total Ass.

That's the best way to describe this restaurant's disgraceful handling of our botched delivery order tonight.  It's unfortunate because we had a good experience dining in the restaurant in the past and generally had few issues with previous delivery orders.  Some orders were prompt while others were late but at least the food arrived at a reasonable temperature.

Tonight it was different.  An order was placed at 6:30pm.  The expected delivery time was 7:20pm-7:30pm.  That time came and went.  A call was placed at 7:40pm to check on the status of the order.  The person who picked up the phone said the delivery guy was already out and promised to call us back (without actually asking for a name or a call back number, which already signaled the possible BS that was cooking).  Either way we gave them our number and info and proceeded to wait for the call that we knew wasn't coming.  More time passed and we called repeatedly to see what was up.  Nobody picked up the phone.  Not after even 10+ consecutive tries.

At last around 8:10 the food finally arrived.  It was stone cold (as we sort of expected).  I told the delivery guy the food was cold and we were told that "you should microwave it".  Hey asshole, I'm not microwaving a $42 delivery order.  I refused to take the food and asked the delivery guy to call the restaurant.  He barked at me and said he had another order that some other guy waited an hour and a half for (which was most likely stone cold like my meal).  Bottom line, he wasn't going to help and didn't give a shit.

Either way, we eventually got a refund through Seamless but frankly this restaurant's complete lack of interest in dealing with the problem (as we tried to call repeatedly again while the delivery guy was waiting .. no answer .. and we tried calling again after we sent the delivery guy back with the food .. and still no answer) is absolutely disgraceful.  It's one thing to fuck your delivery up.  It's another when you don't respond to customers at all or promise to check on a delivery and call, only to simply not do so.

Guess what people, this is not how you do business.  Let's see how much longer you'll stay in business if you keep building a reputation of being unreliable and treat customers like trash.

  6. We were craving Korean food and found this on Yelp. I originally thought it was sort of a casual lunchbox kind of a place. We were surprised to walk in and find that the restaurant is actually 2 floors. The top floor is almost like a cafeteria with a lunchbox area, a fresh smoothie bar, etc. We were led to the lower floor, which was considered "fine dining". It was a large room, filled with many spaced out tables. It had a refined feel to it, and I could definitely see a small wedding reception being held here. We ordered a kimchi calamari pajeon, soondubu, and Budae Jjigae. The pajeon was delicious and fried just right. The soondubu and budae jjigae were yummy but nothing mind-blowing. I suppose it's not a cheap place for Korean food, and we really didn't order anything that was gourmet. They were things we could've gotten at BCD Tofu House and Pocha 32.

The service was great. The wait staff was super attentive and respectful. I'm surprised that it wasn't more full for weekend lunch. Maybe it's more of a dinner spot.

I'm very interested in coming back for the BBQ and will definitely do so next time I'm craving BBQ and don't want to deal with the crowds in K-Town!

  7. This establishment is tough to review, being its actually two different entities.. Street level, is a grab and go, cafe style luncheonette type place.. NY Kimchi Express.. Downstairs is a full sit down resturant with tables with hot grill inserts, and a small bar, from their website, NY Kimchi Jiha.. But signage is all NY Kimchi, and If you ask anyone there though, they say 'same resturant' SMH.. We ate downstairs. Our first time eating Korean food, I expressed this to our waitress, and got zero advice or recommendations, so we blindly winged it, ordering a few dishes.. The Calamari Appetizer, fried rings in a spicy coating, served over a salad with a sweet dressing.. Pretty awesome.. The fried rice dishes, we really enjoyed. They're served on scalding hot metal plates. You get the different textures of the ingredients along with crispy rice that caramelized a bit on the pan, or the plate itself.. Wonderful.. We weren't going 'full boat' with the BBQ, but the table next to us did, and it looked amazing.. Maybe this is why our customer service was lacking. Nobody asked how we liked our order or if we needed beverages after being served. I'd really like to try here again with someone with more experience enjoying Korean cuisine, I'm not all about playing russian roulette off the menu.. Bottom line, high quality food, customer service needs some work..

  8. An ingenious place that satisfies your korean food crave when you are not close to KTown.
It's a place of variety. The taste? (Shurgs) C'mmon you are not in KTown..

    Also interesting to note:
    – a small takeout counter with grab& go options (plus for busy New Yorkers)
    – there are always free samples of smoothies and korean rice cakes (yum!)
    – did I mention there are smoothies?
    – bibimbap on a bed of salad- carb saver!

    Service is standard

It turns into a sit-down dinner place at night. How ingenious
