Cafe Madeline

“Both were extremely delicious but the cheddar chive biscuit (which I added bacon to) stole the show.”

“The back room made me a little clausterphobic, but the front it solid.”

“It's also why I lean towards going here for a bite instead of Qathra or Milk & Honey who are cash only.”

  1. Came here for lunch with my amiga after our initial choice was closed and plan B was a cash only restaurant.

This cafe has seats outdoors, indoors and further back indoors.

The menus are located on the cashier counter. I suggest getting one before standing on the line and staring at all the counter food you are about to binge on. It's similar to waiting on the grocery check out line with candy and junk food on the side. It's a great marketing strategy!

I think they are known for their food bowls. Tons of people here had it. They also have an extensive list of smoothies and unique teas. I didn't order any – first attempt at living on a budget. Instead, I ordered a veggie burger since it has been way too long. The burger did not come with a side of anything but that's fine because I was stuffed! Great presentation but a tad heavy on the sauce so i couldn't taste much of the patty. The party wasn't dry though and the bun seemed to be fried. My friend ordered the BLT and wow. That has got to be the fanciest BLT ever! She loved it as expected and the bread it came with made it even better.

For dessert, we had the irresistible mini cheesecake but found it too sweet. We sat at the back which is full of mirrors and friendly people.

The bathroom. The bathroom is located to the left of the cashier which is dead center to the seating area. I suggest double checking that you locked the door! I thought I locked it but I didn't since a guy opened the door right when I sat down. So I had a great view of the seated customers including the guy.

  2. I like Cafe Madeline mostly because they're a coffice and there aren't many cafes like that around this part of town.

I think the food ordering process is a little overwhelming and messy as you have to order by the counter, pick up your coffee right there but then they bring the food to you wherever you're sitting.

There's usually a line to order but the menus are at the register so you actually have to wait till you get there before checking out the menu. Which means making everyone wait for you to figure out what you might want to eat.

I am a fan of the crispy Eggs platter and the French plate. Both Super solid and healthy breakfast option. I also love their fresh squeezed juices.

They are a little overpriced but I assume it incorporates the fact that a lot of people end up working there for hours without ordering anything.

I think occasionally the staff may have a little attitude but I think if the ordering process might change, they might be less overwhelmed.

  3. so Busy, even post rush hour Thursday morning.   Thanks to other Yelpsters, I read up and knew what I wanted , the bacon egg and cheese chive biscuit with spicy mayo…thing.  I wanted to grab the menu when I got to the register and order, but it was busy like I said, and I knew I would jsut get confised because I was hungry hippo at that point.
Ill come back and look at the menu then ordered.
Oh also, it was pretty fast,I ordered , paid, used the WC, and when I came out they were yelling out Matt!! holding a brown bag with my thingy in it.  Cool.  ended up setting up at table in the back room and doing some work while I inhaled the biscuit thingy.  the setup is weird, the feng shuei is all collision course but they seem to be doing a great business and it's pretty sweet.   Oh yeah and they have all kinds of coffee drinks,  not my thing. trust the other reviews on the whole situation.

  4. Love this place. I come here to work some days even though I live in Prospect Heights. Food is amazing with a huge selection, and lots of fun albeit diabetes-inducing lattes to choose from (Nutella latte, s'mores latte, almond butter latte, lavender latte, etc.). Food-wise I have ordered the cheddar chive biscuit bowl and the spicy potatoes and eggs bowl. Both amazing. Will be back (many times).

  5. The food here is amazing, but a tiny bit overpriced. I love the big communal outdoor table when there isn't some guy with a dirty laptop taking up half of it, smoking a cigarette. I also am not into this place when it's a stroller wonderland, but off hours in the evenings or late afternoon on weekends it is great. The pastries are incredible and I live for those cheddar chive biscuits.

  6. I liked the coffee here, and occasionally grab something to eat on the run. The high octane Red Eye Brew tastes wonderful and gets you going. The mini quiche they have is pretty awesome, savory and nice flakey pastry crust. The service has been so so.. Depending on who helps you. Some help, I've felt, as if I've inconvenienced them by ordering.. I'd agree with other posters as well, it's a bit pricey.

  7. Great cafe, close to where I was staying in Brooklyn. My party frequented this place like three or four times during our stay visiting family and it was delicious every time.

The brunch menu is really varied and interesting. I saw savory oats, which I thought was a neat idea. I ended up trying the Mexican Brekkie Bowl, which was quinoa, chorizo, avocado, and a perfectly cooked egg on top. It was perfect and the best choice for a super long day of walking. I also tried the cardamon latte. It was great as well. My sister got the hot chocolate there and couldn't stop raving about it.

The location is a little tight in the front but there is lots of seating in the back. It gets pretty crowded but the line moves quickly.

  8. If you're looking for delicious breakfast, look no further.  It can get quite crowded around noon on a weekend as dozens of hungover Brooklynites pile in for their amazing breakfast sandwiches and soothing coffee.

The menu has changed recently, and has become quite overwhelming.  They used to serve their breakfast sandwiches on amazing buttery biscuits.  That seems to have changed, but the food is still delicious.

ABC Egg sandwich – Their best item I've tried.  Traditional egg bacon cheese with the addition of avocado.  The bacon is thick and amazing.
Breakfast taco – Absolutely massive egg bacon cheese burrito with the addition of sweet potatoes, avocado, and sriracha.  I didn't think the sweet potatoes fit that well with the rest of the dish, but I was overall satisfied.
