Smokey Joe’s

“The serving is on the smaller side compared to traditional smokehouses, but I left very satisfied, with leftovers both times.”

“The menu has enough variety to please anyone; not just beef beef beef, but also chicken, fish, some veggie stuff; the menu marks which items are gluten free.”

“I highly recommend this joint–whether you keep Kosher, or aren't Jewish.”

  1. Overpriced for just okay food. Service was very slow. Truly disappointed with all the great reviews posted here. But I guess it's hard to gauge since they are mostly orange heads.

  2. Came here on a whim with no intention to get BBQ.  Lots of local restaurants around Smokey Joe's but I must say we were glad to have found this place:  BBQ was surprisngly very good here.

    Eats:
    – Wings were nice and crispy and delicious, which we received as a free appetizer for checking in : ) Thanks YELP!!!
    – Grilled BBQ Sausage sandwich which was a big portion, juicy and delecious
    – Pulled BBQ chicken sandwich was also big in portion and delicious
    – House cornbread which you have to request for because its only only given during dinner.

    Likes:
    – Food was good and portion size is definitely enough
    – Service was good

    Dislikes:
    – Prices was a bit high, maybe because its a kosher bbq
    – You have to request for cornbread for lunch.  Its only given during during dinner.

Despite all of the negative yelp reviews we had a good time here.  The service and food was good.  I would definitely stop by again to check out the rest of their menu.

  3. I am being generous and giving this four stars simply because it is a kosher restaurant. The fact remains that this is the only authentic barbecue place maybe in North America that also is kosher, and I give this place major credit for originality. That said, if this place was not kosher I would give it three stars. The cornbread and onion jam was DELICIOUS. The hot wings could have been spicier and the vegan soy-based dip simply is not the same as a blue cheese dip. However, the wings were better than many other wings I had and WONDERFUL for kosher (far better than anything else I have had in kosher variety). The hot wings are absolutely worth a try! However, when I ordered the brisket I thought it to be pretty flavorless compared to Blue Smoke (not kosher) and other BBQ places I have been to. The brisket did fall apart easily, but it was still not melt-in-your-mouth awesome. It was just adequate. The sides I ordered were sweet potatoes and roasted veggies. Both were also pretty adequate – not plate revelations, but pretty good. And pretty adequate would normally not cut it for a non-kosher place, but for a kosher place, this is a must-try. The service was also friendly, and the chef/owner stopped by to say hello. There is simply nowhere else in probably North America that comes close to this, and kosher customers have never tried real BBQ before. So for those who keep kosher, I would visit for sure!
