“Been going to Joe's Pizza on Carmine Street forever now.”

“Great location, though it is set up as a pizza joint, so there isn't much seating and tables”

“I think there was a joes in bk at one time, on Kingshighway and got happy when I saw it pop up in Union Square!”

  1. Though Joe's Pizza isn't necessarily the best pizza in NYC, I believe it might be the best pizza you can buy at $2-3 a slice.

I came here at 2AM in the morning after a night out, and there was still a line! That's a testament to how popular their pizza is. The pizza was cheap, not too greasy, and perfect for soaking up all the alcohol in my stomach. What more can I ask for?

  2. a well-run, classic ny pizza joint. regular cheese slices priced at $2.50, definitely affordable and definitely worth it. place has been busy everytime ive popped in, especially late night. staff is always focused, quick, and friendly. need to come back for a Sicilian slice, have never tried but they always look awesome!

  3. Yes yes yes! Best way to start a trip to new york…some piping hot delicious pizza! Came in around 11:30pm for a giant cheese slice…topped with oregano and crushed red pepper…Perfection. It's tight inside but fast moving. Be sure to bring cash if you're only getting a slice, or buy a drink to bring it up to $4 to use a card. Great views of passersby and a fruit stand.

  4. This is how you end a night of dinner and drinks, with a good slice of pizza.  I typically only come to Joe's after a strong night on the town to cap off a good night.  I love the pepperoni pizza and my husband likes the cheese.  It's simple but good and does the trick every time.  It's not a place I would go for pizza for lunch or dinner.  I think it's a great late night option.  I'm glad that they are few blocks from Dear Irving and our hotel, so we can always make it work.

It's no frills, just pizza and a lot of people that need food after drinking all night.

  5. Just give them another try for delivered pizza and it was as good as in their pizzeria! This time it came as expected: thin, crusty and warm, just came out from the oven!
    Love it!

  6. Good NY pizza options. Not the best i've had. Sauce could have had a little more flavor, was a little watery. Good crust though. A solid NY slice for sure.

  7. RECOMMENDED

I'm hungry and looking for lunch on Wednesday, May 25th. The interior dialogue goes like this: How about brick oven? Margarita pie? Artichokes on it? Peking Duck topping? Buffalo Motz? NO!!!!……….I want A SLICE, A NEW YORK SLICE!

So…..needing to pick up a bottle of wine at Trader Joe's Wine Store on 14th, and taking a very long walk, I thought of Joe's. Cheese slices are $2.75. I chose two Pepperoni slices($3.50). Customer traffic at Joe's was unending so I thought I'd get real fresh slices. I was right.

My slices arrived very quickly after being re-heated. There were no seats in the joint so I put my slices, and the paper plate underneath them, on one of two round small "counters" outside. The slices were extremely hot when I tried to eat them I tried the classic fold and eat technique but burned my hands. Not wanting the second degree burns on the roof of my mouth as well I blew on the slices for what seemed a minute and then went "Di Blasio", running into the restaurant for a plastic knife and fork to commence eating.

The slices were heavenly, bringing back memories of what I ate as a kid in Brooklyn. The crust was perfectly balanced between thick and thin, with a sheet of oil that I loved. The sauce and cheese were atop the slices in perfect proportion. Both were delicious. There was plenty of pepperoni on the slices.

Joe's serves the archetypal New York Slice, something you will never find under the Mason Dixon line or, indeed, anywhere else but lower New York State. It may not be the best slice you'll ever taste but, knowing about Joe's, it would not be worth the time or effort to search for a better slice. I just wish Joe's was closer to my work place.

  8. Joe's is a great spot for a classic NY slice. Chances are good it won't be the best slice you've ever had, but it will be good. I like the little eating area inside where you can stand and eat or you can carry out and eat on the go like I often do. Service has always been good too. Solid pizza joint that I enjoy returning to.
