I hadn't been here in a while…still good. While Polish is not my favorite cuisine, I did enjoy the Polish Plate…pierogies, stuffed cabbage, keilbasa and bigos- a sauerkraut mixture. Heavy but yummy!
Came here for dinner and with a large private party going on I took my order to go. The place looks very European with it's brick walls and signage everywhere. A small bar where I waited watching Cricket on tv and trying to figure it all out, kept the pitchers of beer flowing. It's good to see that Polish families are as loud as Italian families as the din was deafening.
I started out with a cup of cold red Borscht which was more like a bowl and was delicious, perfect for an early Summer evening. It was sweet and loaded with really fresh tasting Cucumbers,Beets and pieces of hard boiled eggs and redolent of a generous sprinkling of fresh Dill over the top (I love Dill). If my starter was perfect for summer my main was better suited for a cold winter evening, not saying I didnt love it but I will love it even more come December. I had the Polish Platter which consisted of a very nice sized stuffed Cabbage which was full of meat and rice with a very tasty sauce on top, 3 plum potato pierogis, a piece of Kielbasa with mustard on top (perfectly seasoned) and sauerkraut with little pieces of the same kielbasa mixed in.
Everything was very good and very filling and not very expensive. The 2 young ladies who seemed quite busy with the party were still very friendly. Good Stuff.
Waitresses here are all smiles and lovely. Service was great, food was delicious, and I can tell you readers now that I will be coming back again, and again, and again. Get the tripe soup, potato pancakes, pirogi and go to pound town 😉
Location is conveniently located near the gym so I can pig out after a work out. Or maybe I should do it the other way around? Eh, both works!
It's ok, but maybe would not come by again.
It was a little chilly that day, and with some empty space in the center of the restaurant, the three of us were seated near the door instead.
I wanted to move, but my stubborn sister wanted to bear it out and not cause trouble. But why were we not seated away from the door in the first place?
The decor is nothing special. Little cozy and romantic. The waitresses were very good after our orders, making sure all is well. That said, be prepared to wait 30-50 mins before you have anything to eat. It's possible that the kitchen is small or someone took a day off.
Food is pretty good. Would NOT order that steak again though. I expected a nice big 1 inch rib-eye steak over a grill, or pan fried. What I got was more flame broiled, seasoned over night, and about 1cm thick. With a bunch of grilled/charred veggies thrown on top. It's just not my style. Would also not recommend the iced tea (no flavor).
The tartare is very large. I had both the salmon & beef.
I think it's low-quality beef, or maybe the beef was still very cold when it was chopped/grinded, but was not impressed. Tastes very good for the price though. The salmon tartare was made well. Both dishes deserved more bread. Both dishes should be considered as part of your appetizer.
What a disappointment. Slow waitress/staff, extremely long wait for food (45 minutes for soup appetizer, seriously?), and yes, even forgotten orders.
These things only begin to summarize the meal. Don't think I'll be going back — or recommending it to anyone — ever.
The one positive? They have a few beers on tap, which is nice for such a small place.
I was a little put-off by having been turned away from this restaurant about a month ago by a waitress, citing an hour's wait due to a special event. My boyfriend and I chose to eat at a sushi restaurant across the street, and observed nobody coming or going from Chris's the entire time we were there. To us, it begged the question of whether or not their treatment of guests was preferential.
However, I love their food, and I had the suspicion that this bad experience may have been a one-time freak incident, or that maybe they even encountered an unexpected issue during the hour I spent across the street, watching no special events commencing there. So, I returned.
I feel bad about how harsh I was on them in my most recent review, but I truly had felt unwelcome. Having a one hour wait is understandable, if your restaurant is slammed, filled with reservations, or has a special event going on, but it just didn't seem to be true when I saw the lack of eventfulness from my booth within the sushi restaurant.
I'm here to say that whatever the case may have been, Chris's more than redeemed themselves on my subsequent visit there. Things were "back to normal", so to speak. My waitress (who is usually the same person) was very kind and prompt with her service. The food was delightful.
Yes, I've had slow service here, and yes, I've had disappointing occurrences; however, I feel my last review may have been a little too harsh. Sometimes, you just have to let the small stuff go. Truth be told, I still love this restaurant, and I will absolutely continue to dine here.
