  1. I've definitely been on a pizza binge lately, and Marta came up with some good reservation times on OpenTable recently, so we went for an early weekday dinner around 6:30pm. I was pretty surprised to see most of the dining area full, so that made us even more excited about trying the food. I was a big fan of the high ceilings and the open kitchen, and the vibe was good for just about anything from business dinners to group outings.

We got the salumi della casa (charcuterie plate), which came with whipped guanciale lardo, fried testa (head cheese), coppa, and a few pickled vegetables. While the ingredients were pretty nice, and the flavors were decent, the presentation wasn't very well-organized, and the vegetables were a little clunky. However, the pizzas, which were what we came for, were quite excellent. We got the bottarga (red mullet roe, garlic butter, spigarello, mozzarella, chili) and the salsiccia (cremini mushrooms, pork sausage, pecorino), both of which were decently sized. 1 pizza is definitely not enough for 2 people, but 2 pizzas for 2 people is a bit too much. Or so they say. Anyways, I really enjoyed the salsiccia pizza, which was your fairly standard sausage and mushroom pizza, just amped up to another level. Yet, the with the bottarga, the saltiness of the roe and the chili flake went really well with the creamy mozzarella and the very crunchy cracker-thin crust.. Probably my favorite pizza of the night.

Service was a bit spotty throughout the meal, but didn't really ruin our experience in any way. Our server was at least very friendly and made some good recommendations, especially for the pizza. The happy hour menu looked pretty good, albeit a little expensive. Yet, the beers they were offering weren't your typical craft brews, so that's definitely a plus.

Overall, I would come back for a casual group dinner and try some of their other pizzas. The space certainly allows for a big group, and what's better than sharing pizza with a bunch of friends?

  2. In NYC for a weekend getaway to visit a couple of friends and they suggested I stay at the Redbury. Marta is located on the first floor of the hotel, so we met here for dinner since it was close,

We arrived about 20 minutes early and had a drink at the bar and hung out chatting until our table was ready. Thankfully my friends made a reservation because every table was full. I'd suggest a reservation, especially on Friday and Saturday nights.

Let's skip ahead to the real reason you're reading this review… the food!

We ordered the black truffle pizza, a special, to split between three of us. It was the perfect size to split between us as an appetizer, or enough for one person to eat as their main entree with maybe a slice left over to take home. The pizza was outstanding with the saltiness of the cheese, the crispness of the wood-oven baked paper thin dough and the earthiness of the black truffles. Seriously.. I'm going to be thinking about this pizza for awhile.

For my main course, I did the Char, which was just a tad underdone for my tastes and could have used a little more salt in the cooking process. Don't get me wrong, it was really good, but after such a wonderful experience with the pizza, I was a little let down by the main course. Damn.. I should have ordered another pizza!

If I'm back here in the future, pizza is definitely what I'll do, and it's what I recommend.

  3. Service-5stars
    Food-5 stars
    I LOVE MARTA!

meatballs-a little bland but still yummy. The cheese balls were amaze-balls

    Latke- YUUUUUMMMM crispy deeeeelish-uuuuus-nesssssss

Risotto croquettes- kinda boring, nothing amazing, you can totally skip this

Salsiccia pizza-O M G!!! Amazing super thin crispy crust with the best combo ever-mushroom and sausage. I love super thin crispy crust so I absolutely love their pizzas.

Bottarga pizza (special)-THE BEST PIZZA EVER!!!!! Bottarga and ramps! Ramos are amazing, I love ramps! Maybe because it's so limited but still I love them… We always want what we can't have. GO NOW! ORDER THE BOTTARGA!!!!

Pork chops (also a special)- and holy mother of all things!!! By far the absolute best pork chops I have EVER in my life had! In my opinion pork is usually never the melt on your tongue sort of meat but my goodness this grilled pork chop melted away. This dish is a must! (If it's available)

Tiramisu ice cream sandwich-compliments of our waitress bc she luuuuuuuved us… I don't even like tiramisu but these ice cream sandwiches are also a DEFINITE MUST! Save room for them especially if you order that pork chop it's enough food for 3 peeps.

Damn Danny back at it again with another amazing restaurant… Yea I know it's not that new but… It's new to me so… Whatever! ENJOYYYY

  4. Marta is big and inviting…my friend and I were walking past on the street and it looked so bustling, dark and romantic, we just had to go in. I ordered the sea bass and my friend had a pizza w mussels on it, both were very good. My favorite, however, were the tomato risotto croquettes, absolutely divine! I haven't tasted anything this good since Italy!

Service was very professional and prompt. It can get a bit loud in here for conversation, but the ambiance and food are well worth it!

  5. A great experience and a solid choice for a date night or business lunch/dinner! Instagram brought me here – I've somehow seen far too many photos of the crispy thin pizzas & the bf likes pizzas (I'm personally an average fan & infrequent consumer of pizza).

We came on Saturday night after making a reservation, ordered 2 pizzas to share – no sides, after reading mixed reviews about them. The carbonara pizza was great!! I loved the bacon bits on them and the soft potato cubes. I was ready to fight with the bf for the last slice but he was gracious enough lol. The great thing is that you don't end up too bloated or full from these pizzas- just the right amount of satisfaction (with some extra space for ice cream for me!).

The whole restaurant links to the swanky wood panelled hotel lobby, and the ambiance was delightful, with the high ceilings, dim lighting, etc. I suppose that's what you're paying above $19 per pizza for. It was fun and I may come back if I'm craving pizza again, but not quite one of the outstanding favorites.

  6. Absolutely blown away by Marta. My date made reservations at 7:15 on a Thursday night. We arrived a bit early and got a drink at the bar and were offered our table promptly at 7:15. The hostess gave us the option of sitting at a regular table or the counter surrounding the pizza makers and wood burning ovens, and we jumped at the opportunity to sit at the counter.

Having heard amazing things about Marta, we wanted to try a variety of dishes. We started with the polpettine di pollo (chicken meatballs) and the suppli al telefona (tomato risotto croquettes), which they brought out at staggered times. We loved this, as it gave us an opportunity to savor each dish. For our next course we ordered the salsiccia pizza, which has pork sausage, cremini mushrooms, and pecorino. Marta is known for super thin charred crusts, and this pie was no exception. It was phenomenal. For the next round of food, we ordered the pollo ubriaco, or the beer-brined chicken. It came with a delicious, slightly charred cabbage salad that was surprisingly tasty. I hadn't expected much from cabbage, but this was very good. The chicken was super tender and had a wonderfully crusty skin. We ordered a side of summer squash as well, which tasted amazing but was a very tiny portion for $9. Though the desserts looked tempting (blueberry crostata?! Yum!) we were both fully sated at that point and felt like we couldn't eat anymore.

Everything about our experience there was phenomenal, and as we left we were already planning what we would order on our next visit. Everything, from the service, to the atmosphere, to the food, to the wine, surpassed my expectations. Cannot wait to come back!

  7. This place is good but a bit over hyped. The decor inside is very clean and modern with a splash of what I would call California. My husband and I ordered the risotto croquettes to start, which were quite good. We also ordered the stracciatella pizza which was delicious. The cheese was soft and creamy and flavorful. The sauce was pretty good but maybe needed a bit more garlic. My husband ordered the machllaio and wasn't too impressed. He said it was pretty boring. This is a fairly expensive restaurant for what you are getting. I would come back but it's not at the top of my list. We skipped dessert because nothing looked all that special.

  8. Loved it here!!! It's hard to find good quality, fresh italian pizza here in NY. Marta does a pretty good job of getting there. What we tried:

    – we started with the asparagus appetizer. it was a good light and fresh start to the meal, but it didnt blow me away. it was some nice and tender asparagus, with some crumbled boiled egg, with a nice mustard-citrus vinaigrette. it was definitely tasty and a nice balance to the pizzas.
    – straciatella pizza – straciatella is a fresh, home made cheese similar to burrata (a very soft, melty mozzarella pretty much). it is very creamy and soft. the cheese goes on a basic red sauce pizza with some basil leaves. it is important to note that since the cheese is very delicate and soft, it is added to the pizza after it comes out of the oven, so the pizza is not piping hot. However, it is a very delicious basic pizza with amazing creamy cheese. I would recommend this if you want something basic but a little more elevated from the regular margherita pizza
    – funghi – this is a white pizza. it is a delicious creamy ricotta (i think) base with mushrooms and onion on top. it is a very delicious pizza, while still remaining pretty simple.

    definitely recommend!
