RIt seems as though opening with "Hello, its my first time at your establishment and I'd like a lunch recommendation", never works out well. I think its time I just approach stone faced and difficult.
Into my bag goes the MOD's (possible owner) twelve dollar recommended lunch special consisting of half chicken, rice and beans. Simple and straightforward enough, but upon glancing at the first page of the to go menu at my destination, an over charge was in play.
SPECIALS— Monday thru Friday from 12PM until 4PM, guessing Eastern Standard Time.
Eight dollars T0 ten dollars — the only other option is NINE!, not twelve to all those keeping count.
Its noteworthy because I put my trust into the individual. I did tip a few bucks to the worker as she observed placidly.
The rice was fluffy, low flavor and opaque yellow, beans were tasty but not many whole. I got the same feeling when buying a bad batch of cashews and most are broken and busted up.
However, the chicken was really good. Whatever the process, the texture was high quality, juicy and very flavorful.
The reviews intention began just to mention the rudeness and incorrect price, then to say that my intentions are to return for a sit down supper, but now i don't feel that way.
No, there are enough options for me to look elsewhere and move on for Peruvian food. My approach was genuine and sincere, I received the opposite as a new and potentially regular customer.
See ya..
I came here for the first time the day after the blizzard and was fairly impressed, much better than I had anticipated.
Yes, it's all about the green sauce. It goes great with everything. So delicious with a nice kick. I ordered half of a chicken with yellow rice and my husband the lomo saltado. We also ordered the fried calamari and manduros to share.
The chicken was so moist and tasty. Not a bit dry. While the yellow rice looked boring, it was flavored well. The lomo saltado was a disappointment though. The beef was tough to a point where I had to spit a piece out because I couldn't chew through it. It also had an iron taste to it despite being cooked through. Not a fan at all. The calamari was your typical calamari. It was fried well, not over-battered, and not too oily. Interestingly it did not come with any special side sauce, so we just used the green sauce – yay, more food to dunk in the green sauce! Having the option of at least a simple marinara sauce would have been nice though. The calamari was a huge portion. It does come with yucca fries underneath the calamari to, you know, make it look fuller (is my guess) but I'm not complaining. The manduros were okay.
It was a good amount of food and we definitely had leftovers for the next day. We probably would just stick with the chicken next time versus venturing out and ordering beef here again.
In terms of their service, I don't have any complaints. The service was quick and attentive.
Prices are very reasonable and they have some great combo specials. I see myself coming back.
If they were more accommodating they would get one more star since food is solid.
Combo #2 generally covers everything I love from this place. However unlike other establishments this one in particular is:
1. super stingy: they've mastered the art of slicing the avocado the thinnest I have ever seen an avocado be sliced and still recognizable. It's called "Avocado salad" for a reason….there should be more than 1/4th of an avocado in there. If not please just rename the salad to crappy lettuce salad.
2. Did I mention super stingy? Order take out and you'll get 2 little sauce containers 1/2-2/3 full of green sauce. This holds true even if you order a large amount such as the combo #2. Ask for extra sauce and if the guy is feeling generous he will give you 1 additional 1/2 full container. In the end if you're a sauce lover you'll be forced to pay the $5 for the pint in order to have enough for your meal.
3. Unaccomodating – Order a whole chicken (4 quarters). Most places will allow you to request for all dark meat. Not here…they go ask about availability of dark meat. Upon return the answer will always be "sorry, we don't have". But when you ask if dark meat is available period…yes it is.
I can't speak for many other things on the menu as I'm so smitten by the above items that they're usually my go-to. I end up with too much food to have room for experimenting with any new items on their menu.
Pollo Inka is a pretty solid place to get some good, inexpensive food. I usually opt for take out, but I recently ate at the restaurant.
You can't go wrong with their roasted chicken and green chili sauce. However, their french fries were very disappointing and just flavorless and soggy. Also, their sweet plantains were not that sweet and somewhat unripened. I've definitely had better experiences with their side dishes, but regardless I will be a repeat customer.
The food is pretty good, and a GREAT deal for the money. But I was not thrilled with the service at the restaurant, the last time I was there. I had to practically BEG for a water refill, and the food came out well after those seated earlier than us were served…missing was the chicken, which we had to almost HOUND the waitress to get. The chicken: juicy, tender, and flavorful. It is exactly what you hope a Peruvian rotisserie chicken should be. The sides are basically average. You come here for chicken. For Peruvian chicken lovers, this is the place to be. Just beware of slow service and only average side dishes.
Three stars is for dining in. For take out/delivery, I give this restaurant four stars.
After hearing about this place for some time, finally sat down to a wonderful meal. Half a chicken with rice and beans and tostones makes me a happy camper.
The staff is attentive and the venue is clean. Parking can be a bit tricky but totally worth it. Thankfully my friend and I arrived before some other noisy patrons so be prepped for the close quarters.
My review is just based on the food, I haven't dined in, only to-go and delivery. So there's not too much to say, the food is good and delivery is quick so I don't really have any complaints.
Be sure to get their green sauce with your food, it's really good.
I am a frequent visitor of this restaurant and I must say ive never been dissapointed. Everything is tasty and the prices are reasonable. I am a huge fan of the calamari which also comes with fried yucca. I also love the avocado salad. You can get an entire meal to feed your whole family for 28.00 or less. My absolute favorite is the green sauce….to this day I am unsure as to what ingredients are in that sauce but im dying to find out. My only complaint is that at times the service has been a bit unpleasant but ive learned to ignore it at this point. Overall this is one of my favorite restaurants in Queens.
