Might be one of the tastiest and crunchy and cheesiest pizza I've ever had in the area & there are a lot of pizza servicing places!
This is a small shop with 1 – 2 small group seating. Most people just take it to go or binge it down their throats.
The pizza specialty comes from the sesame seeds slightly powdered around the bottom and it makes the slice very smooth on the crust/dough! It really gives you a new view on pizza and is very different from the norm.
Their prices are definitely average and will not burn your wallet as much as the sizzling cheese will burn your mouth! YUM!
About 2-3$ for a regular and toppings of course more! If Im ever craving pizza, I'd come here instead of ANYWHERE else!
p.s. I am not paid to sponser nor promote this place!
It's just that yummy (imo)
When I first realized that the *best* slice of Pizza in NYC, and perhaps the world, was in Queens… after spending years trawling through Brooklyn and Manhattan looking for it… I was a little angry. I was hurt. I was self-harming. I was purging. I was considering committing myself actually. I often am. But then, over time, I learned to see the "Funnyside."
What to get: Garlic Bread Pizza Slice
What else: All their slices are good, but get the one I just said, trust me
Why should we trust you: Umm…
Say something that makes us trust you: OK. Come with me if you want to live.
Oh! That's Arnie?: NEIN!
So will you buy us a slice?: NEIN!
How hot do you think you are, out of 10: NEIN!
And, how many inches do you like your nails to be?: NEIN!
Will you bite the hand that feeds you? Will you stay down on your knees?: NEIN!
Originally when I thought they just sold Pizza, they were my 2nd fave spot in NYC, behind Luigi's on 5th in Brooklyn. But when I found out they also sell eggs, I had to move "Sunnyside Up" to number one! Get it. Eggs. Sunnyside up. Never mind.
Seriously though, this is my *favourite* slice in New York City and one of my five *favourite pizzas* in the entire USA and I do not say that lightly because I f**king love pizza, and I f**king love NYC Pizza, and have probably tried well in excess of 200 of the top rated slices in the region.
Specifically, as mentioned, you need to get yourself the Garlic Bread Slice. I've tried others from here and while they were nommably nomtastic, they did not hold a candle to the Garlic Bread Slice. I can honestly say I've never tasted anything quite like it. It's thicker than most NY slices, and much wetter and juicier. The tomato sauce is rich and heavy. The cheese is used sparingly and that just makes it all the more enjoyable. The crisp crust is awash with a plethora of sesame seeds which wouldn't seem like something I'd want… until I bite into it and realize that I'm orgasmic in my foodpants.
As an aside: I used to side with Cher in terms of who the victim was. But now that he is gone (RIP), I can definitely see "Sonny's side."
And of course, best of all, there is the garlic. What the French call a certain "Garlique." What the Spaniards call "Garlicia." What the Italians call "Garliccimo." What the Germans call "NEIN! NEIN! DAS IST GUT YAAAA!" Oh wait that's what my German friend said in my bedroom last night. And what the Romanians call "oh my f***ing sh** it's Garlic get the f*** out of here we're gonna die, vampire brethren." Yep. Masses. And masses. Of f***ing garlic, people. F*** yes.
Now I'm not some guy that is obsessed with garlic (otherwise I wouldn't have so many boyfriends, I mean girlfriends, okay fine I mean both), but on this slice it works so well that it makes me dream of putting it in my mouth (yes still talking about the slice) for months and months on end.
I suppose compared to Astoria and Long Island City, some might say this neighborhood is on the "Slummy-side" but forget that. If you've been to Detroit, West Baltimore or East Buffalo lately, Queens Blvd is paradise. And this pizza slice? The word paradise does not do it justice.
How can a slice in Queens be the best slice in NYC? Don't ask me. It just is. I call them like I taste them. I find it hard to order just one slice when I'm here. No matter how full I am. In fact, if my German friends are with me, we order at least NEIN! YAAAAAA!
There are actually multiple facets to me. But if you only know me from my Yelp reviews, then you only know my "Punnyside."
So, in conclusion. Hit up Louie & Ernie's in the Bronx, try Bleecker St Pizza or Prince St Pizza in Manhattan, try Capri Pizza in Jersey, and go to Louie's on 5th ave in Broke-lyn. But if you want the most delicious slice of all… come to Queens and eat like a King. Garlic Bread Pizza. Sunnyside. I'm not fronting. I'm also not fronting you the money for it. But it's a very affordable place if that helps.
Speaking of which, you look fantastic from the front. But turn around, so I can check out your Bummyside.
Ooh.
decided to try this place since uncle jimmy's was closed. pizza was huge with lots of stringy cheese, soft/doughy crust with sesame seeds, and each slice loaded with toppings. a tad on the expensive side, but still good pizza. doesn't measure up to uncle jimmy's, though.
The pizza at this hole in the wall definitely lives up to its Yelp reviews. Like a hybrid between a thin crust and NYC slice, this one has cracking crust studded with sesame but loaded with far more cheese and tomato sauce than your standard artisanal. The sauce was flavored nicely with herbs and garlic and had a good ratio to cheese. All the pies are beautiful to look at, dotted with various toppings and cheese. Try the eggplant one, almost too pretty to eat. There is very little seating here, two chairs and five stools that face each other. So unless you come with a group to commandeer the stools, be forewarned that the tiny counter between the benches can mean you'll end up studying some stranger's style of mastication.
You guys. This IS pizza. Can't get no better than Sunnyside Pizza- it's the real deal here!
Huge slices of pizza at a great price. They really don't skimp on the toppings. The pizzas I've been ordering and eating have been filled with toppings. They add some sesame seeds to their crust, so the crust has a unique taste compared to other pies I've had in New York. That's definitely a plus.
The only issue I have with this place is the size of the slices. I wished they're cut a bit smaller. Then again, it's New York; pizza slices are meant to be huge.
If you're around here or live around the neighborhood, I recommend this place if you want to get some pie.
This place is so tiny it won't fit more than 4 people sitting down.
3 to 4 bucks for good sized special slices. Credit cards accepted.
If nothing else, the crust is probably the best in Sunnyside. It's pretty perfect. Like eating a fresh piece of Italian bread.
The pizza is a perfect blend of crispy and crunchy. The slices are thick but aren't floppy and they are soft enough to fold.
I tried the garlic bread slice and it's real good as others have said.
The Buffalo slice is loaded with chicken but I felt it needed more Blue cheese.
Overall a great stop for a quick slice
While visiting with some friends in Woodside they ordered a couple of pies and rolls from this place and I have to admit I was kinda blown away.
I overheard my friend ordering for a hungry bunch of us (6 adults and 4 kids) – a regular pie with half pepperoni, a grandma pie and 2 "rolls" – the chicken parm and spinach. At this point in the day I was feeling pretty hungry haven't eaten anything since early morning and it was now around 3pm. I thought to myself..hmmm.. this may not be enough for all of us. Man was I wrong!
First off, these aren't typical chicken or spinach rolls you would get from most pizzerias – You know the ones that are mostly dough wrapped around 4-5 strips of chicken or a bit of spinach and cheese – no way. These things are monsters! I would estimate they are a good 2 – 2.5 feet long and 4 inches wide STUFFED with ricotta, mozzarella, a bit of sauce and hunks of chicken (substitute spinach for the other one). The rolls holds its shape well to keep all the filling from going everywhere.
The pies were equally as impressive – The Grandma also isn't the typical one I usually see. These are down right pretty with a slab of fresh mozzarella on top, a dollop of sauce and basil leaf they were fresh and tasty. The regular slices are thicker than most regular pizza and of course all the items have the signature sesame seeds on the crust.
We probably only ate about half of the food, but it wasn't for lack of trying. We were stuffed with some awesome Sunnyside Pizza, which I hope my friends order every time I visit!
