“I highly recommend the prosciutto, arugula, and bufala mozzarella pie.”
“And despite the fact that, like the New Haven joints, it's cooked in a coal oven, the cheese doesn't scorch the roof of your mouth!”
“No competiton, not even Lombardi's, John's or Patsy's compares to Luzzo's. It is right off the boat from Napoli good.”

Honestly life changing pizza.
I went during the day time. It is a small unassuming restaurant, with an authentic family italian feel. The Neapolitan pizza is soo thin, yet has a crisp. The light crisp is really what separates Luzzo's from other Neapolitan pizza places. It is so special.
Bufala Mozzarella pizza – Delicious. Could use a tad bit more sauce but it was so good that I happily overlooked it.
Salseccia e Broccoli: Good but I feel like they specialize more in making pizza itsself than using top notch ingredients. It was still tasty but I would definitely try something else next time.
Authentic Italian pizza place!!! Came here based on the rave reviews and glad I did. WOW! The wait on a Saturday night was about 15 minutes so we grabbed a drink at the bar. We got a large #5 pizza – Arugula tomato sauce, mozzarella, prosciutto, shaved parmigiano, arugula. It was soooo good. What first appeared to be a huge pizza, turned out to be enough for 2 grown guys to complete the whole thing because it is so thin. The crust is amazing too. Also got the meatball appetizer which was very good, but this pizza is hands down amazing. Our server was great too.
Despite recieving poor service our fist time, Walking back through Luzzo's, passing each incredible looking pie at each and every table, towards the great big coal and wood burning oven, made my mouth water for the Neapolitan experience I was about to have.
Sitting in plain sight of the flickering oven wasn't helping my ever expanding appetite as they slid a pie in, turned it, and whisked it off to another table; I just wanted mine.
Soon enough, it was sliced and on my plate, even faster in my hands and chomped into. Dripping with excellence I could say this was some of the tastiest Neapolitan pizza I have ever had.
Only downfall was it wasn't too crispy because of the Neapolitan rules of flour use… but, who cares when the flavors of the cheese and tomato are so mind-numbingly good. Thanks to my group for explaining the type of cheese and tomato, I will never feel the same about my pizza ingredients.
Knowing now that these San Marzano tomatoes are straight from the soil of Mount Vesuvius, in Naples, Italy; I simply cannot live without them any longer. The cheese made from the milk of a water buffalo is supremely more creamy and delicious than any regular Mozzarella I have ever tasted, giving Luzzo's masterpiece more than a stamp of approval, it moves into a new spot of favorites in NYC.
Pay no attention to the fact this place is so new, (I originally dined in 2009-2010 but accidentally hit delete on this review) relative to the history of some other great pizza restaurants; walk in, try it, experience a slice of heaven. Don't expect the classic NY style, expect exceptional Neapolitan pies.
I've been back a few times over the years and always have a great pie, can't order slices, and that's just fine. The only problem is being able to make up your mind. I'd be at this place weekly if I wasn't all the way out on the island.
I love variety and I love every pie I've tried, but the basic is calling me back constantly, I get there stare at the menu, and never order the pie I fell in love with before, but next time, I'm getting two pies for sure!!
Friend picked up some pizza on the way to my apt and it survived the cold trek to the UES without getting soggy. Plus it was still warm. I'm IMPRESSED.
We shared the #17- Salseccia e broccoli: sausage w broccoli rabe and we devoured the whole thing!
Amalfi Salad- lots of arugula, not a lot of cherry tomatoes. We almost didn't order this because it comes with goat cheese (meh…) but they were able to substitute w shaved parmigiano.
All in all a solid meal. I'll probably be open to trying their other pizzas and salads or even dining in if I'm in the area.

Luzzo's serves an incredibly good pie that I'd place at a notch above that other spot around the corner that gets a heck of a lot more play (that other spot does have a better crust though). I'm a bit of a purist when it comes to toppings, so prefer the bufala over all else. Can't speak to the non-pizza items on the menu.
Good pizza but service was a bit of a mess while we were there. If management is not present on site they need to empower someone that is to make decisions to rectify very poor service situations. (One couple's dish came out ~30 minutes after everyone else's, everyone was done when it arrived. No comp was offered until it was basically demanded and no apology was given). The situation was finally semi resolved after the manager was called but it was a disaster coming to a solution. I don't blame the servers working because they probably hadn't been trained properly or been given the ok to make such decisions. Hopefully they will use this situation as a learning opportunity because the food is good.
Fantastic customer service and delicious food. Everyone was very friendly with my 2yo. It was not entirely too busy on a late Friday evening.
The tartufo pizza at this place is phenomenal. Only order this. You will not be sorry. Sister restaurants include vezzo and posto. This is 10000x better.
