This location is smaller and more of a quick sit down, eat & go place. If You want some good chicken and cheap, this is the place to go. I recommend the Matador combo. Chicken, plantains, avocado salad, rice & beans & fries and sausage for $38 ( around that price). Also try the Jalea ( fried seafood platter)Service is quick and food is very fresh. The red sangria is a must 🙂
Not a fan of Pio Pio, seriously why is it always packed? Anyway we went to the main one across the street for take out but it would've taken around 45 minutes. It was Easter Sunday and it was indeed quite busy so they told us to go to the lil take out restaurant.
I don't think Pio Pio is all that great..there are tons of other Peruvian restaurants with better tasting chicken, but we didnt have much time since we were being dropped off for a few minutes. L's father really wanted ceviche mixto; it's not very filling so we had to get some chicken as well. L ordered 2 ceviches… And half a chicken. I like ceviche but not from restaurants that serve Peruvian chicken. I tried a few pieces and it was so damn dry. No leche de tigre.. really no liquid whatsoever. The fish didn't taste fresh. Ceviche is not difficult to make! I tried literally one bite of the chicken and it was so bland…No wonder they need to give their green sauce.
I knew the food would suck at the take out place. His father still finished all his food since he loves ceviche and that's what he asked for. L said it wasn't horrible, just okay, but maybe he just felt stupid for wasting money on bad food. I should've just bought some seafood and made some myself.
There are so many other restaurants around Jackson Heights/East Elmhurst…why Pio Pio is so popular, i will never know, but I would never recommend anyone to come here. I was only here to pick up food for someone else and V was getting food from a different restaurant on the same block so technically she told us to get it from Pio Pio.
2 stars since it was fairly quick for a holiday, but I'm never going back anyway.
My friend was craving for maduros (sweet plantains) so I yelped a few places and we decided to take a drive here for the to go option. We had originally came here for the maduros … But obviously being me, I have to get more – plus I was super hungry.
We turn out getting 2 Maduros, Saffron Rice & Red Beans and Juanita's (half) Chicken.
The Maduros they gave for the price was a huge portion … One order would have been enough, but I'm not complaining. And it wasn't oily at all so that was a plus.
The Saffron Rice & Red Beans were really good as well. Eating it with the sauce and the Maduros was simply amazing.
The Chicken however wasn't our cup of tea. It was soft and tender, but it was lacking flavor.
The ladies at the cash register were nice. However, they had failed to mention to us and other customers that we had to go to the counter with the receipt to inform the kitchen to pack our food. It would have be more customer oriented if the ladies can indicated on the POS system that it was a "to go" order … Instead of having us inform the kitchen ourselves.
Overall, the food was good. We will definitely take a drive back to get the Maduros and Rice & Beans.
It's been quite some time since I've been to Pio Pio , I stopped by this location not even realizing that it was a smaller to go version of the other restaurant right down the block ? Business has to good that they can afford to this .. Good for them !!
As for this location small , nicely lit with some seating available.
Once seated we got our menus & were ready to order.
I tried the half Roasted Chicken w Yuca Fries & a Salad … I forgot how tasty this Chicken was , man oh man definitely can't go wrong with the Chicken.
Good Salad & Yuca fries a bit dry but dip them In the garlic sauce or green sauce & problem solved.
My friend had the half Chicken with Rice & Beans , Salad plus a side order of Green Plantains.
Decent rice & beans , great fried plantains of course better when dipped in either sauce.
Quick friendly service along with cheap prices u just can't go wrong.
Ordered online since the line at the restaurant was long. I have been to the one in Manhattan but I knew it came from Jackson Heights. Ordered the Matador combo. Way too much for the two of us actually. We finished about half of it but we loved it. I think the food is as good as the restaurant.
After you order online, you go to the cashier when you walk in. The cashier gives you a receipt and you go to the counter to pick it up. The only thing was they forgot to include utensils in the bag so I had to go back and ask for it. Other than that, the food was amazing and my bf is in love with this place.
very Disappointed with this last service.
Landed at LGA drove to Pio Pio ordered the meal and when i received it.. 🙁
Ordered the Matador Combo which comes with a whole chicken, rice, beans, avocado salad, salchi-papas and tostones. Well the Chicken was not cooked all the way and the Tostones were like 5 days old.
Seriously, the one thing that you are great at is the chicken why was it not cooked. The tostones should always be fresh, not saved or stored after cooked. WE had the hardest tostones ever and we drove so far to get this food.
Im sorry that this place sucked this time around and the owners should pay attention to what their employees are doing/not doing
I used to go to the actual resteraunt a lot but because of time I always order from the to-go location now. Honestly, I find that the to-go is better, the only thing missing is the Sangria. They are extremely clean, the food is cooked well, there is never a wait, when you call they take your order and tailor it just how you want it. When you go in everyone is very pleasant and helpful. The cooks work hard and the establishment is wonderful.
I came here for the lunch special. Quarter chicken with rice and beans. I also had the empanadas and the Maduras. The empanadas are some of the best I every had plus the spicy green sauce was really good too. Next time I have to have the Sangria. Very good place.
