If you have an afternoon flight out of newark airport or you happen to be leaving IKEA in Elizabeth (guilty as charged, unfortunately) and you are craving Peruvian food then you must make a detour and try the food at this place. I'm always in the hunt for the best Peruvian restaurant and this one did not fall short.
I had a funny feeling coming in because yelp rated it highly but it was empty. 12:30 in the afternoon and we were the only people sitting. I was about to find out that didn't matter. I ordered the ceviche de pescado which was on point. The lemon juice cooked the fish perfectly. Fresh red onions on top and sweet potato puree on the sides. My wife had the chicharron criollo. Deep fried pork with grilled potatoes. We were just getting started. The palomilla steak with jumbo shrimp was also delicious and juicy. It came with grilled potatoes and a salad. Can't leave without dessert right? The pionono (spiral layered cake with melting dulce de leche in between the layers) hit the spot. We abused but it was worth it.
This place has character, great food and best of all it's a family restaurant. They really love what they do which is what matters. I will be definitely coming back for more.
Where do I begin. I was craving Peruvian food and searched on Yelp for a restaurant where I haven't been. I was lucky enough to stumble upon this hidden gem. The positive reviews were enough to make the trip over tonight and I was so glad I did.
The wait is extremely long BUT It is well worth the long wait!
The young lady who greets you when you walk-in runs the register, answers the phone, takes your order, delivers your food to your table, refills your drinks, hands you your check..she does it all while her father cooks EVERYTHING!
Be patient if you do decide to come here since the wait time is longer than your average restaurant. There are only 2 people running the restaurant. It is worth it.
The food is the best I've ever eaten. I'm half peruvian myself and I must say that this amazing little spot impressed me like no other.
We started off with the Peruvian staple dish–Anticuchos (cow hearts) and Chiccarones (fried pork belly).
For the main dishes we ordered Lomo Saltado (beef strips with onions, French fries, and tomatoes with rice) and Bistec a la pobre (steak with egg, plantains, and rice).
The dishes were cooked to perfection. We would wait 5 hours to be seated in the future just to eat these yummy dishes again!!
We got a few different desserts to take home which will be eaten tomorrow since we are so full. Will update in the future. You can check out my pictures to see what I took home. 🙂
Thank you Cebby's for an amazing dinner!
Very good Peruvian food! Jalea de Mariscos was delicious– lightly fried seafood served with fried yucca. Soups are also very fresh and tasty. Service is great. Their deserts are a must try, incredibly homemade with great attention to detail. Sweets here look like works of art!
Give this place a try– you wont regret it!
Great food, great desserts (I'm not even a dessert guy) and great staff. It's family owned and operated and they are fun. Interactive but not annoying.
I got the lomo stir fry and it was delicious. By the time I finished, I was the only one left and they were about to close. They offered a dessert on the house so I tried the one with the shot of rum in it (forgive my lack of Spanish) and it wasn't too sweet, just right.
I'll be coming here any time I visit Newark!
