Solid Italian place; appetizers were excellent and entrees were prepared very well, with the service spot-on. A little crowded, but have to expect that on a Saturday night, although from what i hear the place is busy all the time (not surprised). Parking is a nightmare however so have Your Valet key ready!!! I will definitely be back.
Boo for Il Bacco
The service was spot on but the food was way too salty. Two of my fellow diners ordered red pasta dishes and they hardly ate them because of the overwhelming saltiness. The baked clams were teeny weeny and way too salty.
The tough lamb chop special was especially gamey. It smelled like old lamb they were trying to get rid of by putting it on the 'special' menu.
I ordered the Il Bacco Chicken which was $20.95. The two pieces of chicken breast were accompanied by some greens ( possibly escarole) and a little buttery potato.
The tomato sauce on top of the chicken was super salty but the blandness of the chicken made it possible for me to shove it down my throat. The greens were overcooked and flavorless. The best thing about the plate was the potato. The miniature spud was buttery and had a velvety smooth texture inside.
The ambiance and service were bueno but the food got two thumbs down for Il Bacco. I sadly rather go to olive garden for Italian fare.
A visit to Il Bacco was a long time coming and alas, we finally planned to have my father's birthday dinner. I made my reservation the day before just to be safe–we were 6 people. We were promptly seated at a large round table in the back corner–which we liked rather than being in the middle of the hustle and bustle. The restaurant itself has a great feel, very classy while still being appropriately casual. The waiter immediately brought our bread, olives and prosciutto dish. Always a plus when they voluntarily bring food!
For appetizers we got the eggplant rollitini and fresh mozz with tomatoes and basil to share which were both yummy.
For dinner I had the raviolis which were perfect. My family had a range of different dishes–all of which were completely devoured because of how delicious they were.
To sum it up–Great food, lovely atmosphere, friendly staff and I hear they have an amazing rooftop area during nice weather which I'll be going back for!
Came back here for my boyfriend and l's anniversary. Still great like the other times. Came on a Tuesday evening, quiet but had a few parties in. Service is on point and food as always. Pasta is to die for, so fresh! Chicken scarpariello is a great suggestion too. Will be back soon! 🙂
I came here for a large group party. We had booked the entire rooftop. It included
hors d'oeuvres and open bar drinks. The rooftop was really nice and we had a nice view of Long Island. We had calamari, mussels, and a few other items to munch on and everything was pretty good.
Will try to go back here and have dinner sometime. I took a peak at the first floor and it had a very fancy atmosphere.
Ideally I'd like to give this place 3.5 stars.
I came here last night with a group of 8 on a Wednesday night at 6:30.
Food: the food was good, some things way better than others. The apps/pizza were 4-5 stars and the entrees were more like 3 stars.
We got the caprase appetizer (fresh mozzarella with grilled tomorrow and pesto) this was really good. Also got the grilled octopus special, which was also very good. The mesclun salad was also great.
We also ordered 2 pizzas which were good, and would recommend.
I feel where they really fell flat were the entrees.
I got the fresh papradelle with asparagus/shrimp in a white wine sauce. First of all the pasta was definitely not fresh. I know what fresh papradelle tasted like and this was not it. It was very undercooked (way more that aldente), was stiff and reminded me of egg noodles. The shrimp was bland and had no seasoning. The asparagus was cooked to death and was very mushy. It was by no means inedible but not what I was expecting considering how nice this place is.
Many of my companions got fish dishes, which looked good and well seasoned. However, they all got the same sides (no options for sides), which was overcooked broccoli/cauliflower/carrots and literally 2 pieces of potato.
Service: service was mostly very good. No major complaints and our head server was very nice.
Decor: this is a gorgeous restaurant, no doubt about that. A nice old school Italian vibe.
Overall I think where they are lacking is the entrees. With a little tweaking it could be a true 5 star restaurant.
More of a 3.7 vs. a full 4.
The ambiance is lovely, it is warm and inviting with a hint of elegance. The atmosphere is quite lively and energetic, even on a Thursday night, so reservations are definitely recommended. There also seemed to be a hopping bar scene.
Our waiter was lovely. Friendly with the right amount of chat and very attentive. Once seated, along with the standard bread basket, the table is served a plate of cheese, olives, pepper and prosciutto. A lovely start to the meal.
Appetizers: The eggplant rollatini and tomato & mozzarella salad were both well made and tasty. The star of the round was the grilled octopus. It had the perfect amount of char and was tender and delicious.
Entrees: The lasagna was hearty and the sauce robust. The Calamari dish was some of the most incredibly melt in your mouth calamari I have every experienced. The red snapper entree was served in a red sauce; the fish was cooked well and the sauce was flavorful.
Complimentary biscotti was served afterward and since we were celebrating a birthday a sample dessert plate was prepared and served with a candle. The sampler included fruit, cheesecake, tiramisu and tartufo. Everything was yummy.
All in all in was a lovely evening with some very good food. I wouldn't say the food blew me away and left me dreaming about it, but Il Bacco is a great place for a special occasion, solid, enjoyable meal.
Warning: This is not a foodie review so if that's what you're looking for, stop now or forever hold your peace.
I came here for drinks on a Thursday night in the summer. I'll admit, I'm a bit ashamed that in all my years living five minutes away from this restaurant and passing it almost daily, I never went in. It's a lot bigger than it looks…so big that they even have an elevator! The inside is really classy looking, but don't be fooled because the rooftop is comparable to a NYC rooftop bar, DJ and all! And being that it was a beautiful night, there was absolutely no room to sit down there so I was stuck at the bar downstairs which isn't as lively and much more quiet (if that's what you're looking for).
The bartenders are friendly and attentive and drinks are reasonably priced as well. The demographic is very mixed but mostly a 50+ crowd. There was even a group of 60somethings who were wasted on the elevator. More power to them!
