Ovest Pizzoteca
“Now, the reason I say it's just not Luzzo's is because Ovest has a brick oven versus a coal oven.”
“The Ovest Pizza (Mozzarella cheese, tomato sauce, spicy salame, ricotta cheese, black peppers and basil) was perfect.”
“Its right across the street from The Mckittrick Hotel which is where Sleep no more is.”

Lost in NYC and looking for a place to eat, my girlfriend and I stopped in here after i saw the great reviews on Yelp, and they did not disappoint. It was early in the evening so the place was not very full, by the time we left though the place was packed. Beautiful decor inside, very clean, super cozy with warm colors and dim lighting. The appetizer appeared before you could even get back from the bathroom; we had the rice balls, which were absolutely delicious. My girlfriend and i also shared a pizza which is cooked Neapolitan style in their pizza oven. The pizza was fantastic, the house oil which had crushed red pepper in it was perfect to dip the crust in. I would absolutely recommend this place if you are in the area, very nice staff, great food, absolutely worthy of my 4 stars, Yelp you saved the day again!
I walked past here quite a long time ago and I thought it looked like a cute girls night dinner spot. Classy artsy/Chelsea pizza plus a glass of wine. It didn't quite measure up.
I knew I wasn't going in for dollar pizza. I knew this was elevated pizza. Serious pizza. And while it was delicious, when you get toppings, you expect some toppings. The sauce underneath should be peaking out enough to remind you it's there, but when you see almost all sauce, it's like seeing a person with their skin missing and you can see the flesh underneath. It's just not right. I suppose I also didn't do my research and was expecting some non-traditional combos, but it was all very traditional combos. Delicious, solid, but pretty normal.
I'm also not someone to perfectly want to get their money's worth all the time, but I thought it was a little pricey for a pretty basic pizza and a glass of wine. I'm willing to pay a premium for experience and originality, but not a premium for a premium.
Great neighborhood spot on the west side. The arancini is really good, but the pizza is thin, crispy, fresh and delicious. Their EVOO is the bomb. Bartenders know their sh*t too I've never ordered a standard cocktail here, they always make me something new, different, and completely custom; off menu. And they are always amazing drinks.
This was hands down the best pasta dish I have had in recent memory. I cannot for the life of me remember what it was called but it had meatballs, large pasta and some type of other pork and was AMAZING. I don't normally like super meaty dishes but this was unparalleled. The bread with olive oil for dipping was also a great compliment to the food. There were several good wine specials that we enjoyed. I would come back here in a heartbeat. The service was kind and efficient, and the ambience was top shelf.
The pizzeria is right underneath the High Line. The location seems a little too good to be true. Like, do they even need to try to attract customers? Plus most diners were drinking, a lot. Did they come for the pizza? I was a little dubious.
But the food ended up being great. the various pizzas we ordered were all delicious. You can tell from the chewy crust that those people know what they are doing with that giant wooden oven in the back.
Fun atmosphere, prompt service. A great place for pizza in Manhattan for us out-of-towners.
I ate at Ovest Pizzoteca on a Saturday night with a group of eight people. It was a birthday celebration for my very good friend. We started out with the
Carciofi Alla Giudea (fried artichokes, Arancini, Fritto di Calamari, and the Salumi & Formaggi plate. My favorites were the Arancini and the Calamari. The Arancini had a light and crispy batter on the outside and was creamy and cheesy on the inside just the way it should be. The calamari was perfectly cooked. It had a light batter as well, was salted perfectly, and just tender but not over cooked. Next we sampled the Orecchiette Broccoli & Gamberetti, the Ravioli Burro & Salvia, the Mezzi Rigatoni Alla Norma, and the Paccheri Al Ragu Napoletano. The standouts here were the Ravioli Burro & Salvia (Homemade spinach and ricotta cheese ravioli in butter and sage) and the Paccheri Al Ragu Napoletano (Traditional tomatoes ragu with baby back ribs, sausage and meatballs). The ravioli was perfectly cooked and the filling was smooth and creamy. I wanted to keep eating it but there were more dishes I wanted to taste. The next course was a round of pizzas including the Ovest Pizza, the Arugula Pizza, the Campana Pizza, and the Martha Pizza. The Ovest Pizza (Mozzarella cheese, tomato sauce, spicy salame, ricotta cheese, black peppers and basil) was perfect. It was creamy, salty, spicy, and crispy. My other favorite was the Martha Pizza (Mozzarella cheese, prosciutto, truffle pate's and basil). Their crust is just the right thickness and has the perfect amount of chew. All of the Salumi was delicious. We managed to sample quite a few of the desserts including the Nutella Pizza, the Tartufo, the apple tart, the affogato, and the Mozzarella cheese, prosciutto, Zeppole filled with Nutella. Nutella makes everything better so the two best were the Nutella pizza and the zeppole filled with Nutella. I'd have to say the zeppole is a must try. Nice birthday celebration, good service, and great food! I wish I had photos of the food to share with you but we ate it too quickly.
I won't spoil any secrets. 🙂
Attended a workshop nearby so stopped by Ovest for lunch. I might be spoiled with how accommodating other restaurants can be, but Ovest will not budge on a single menu item – don't think about adding grilled chicken to anything (even for added fee) or removing an ingredient to cater to dietary restrictions. And so is their right I suppose. Still, the food is fairly overpriced, not flavorful (I had the shrimp farfalle), and the service is brusque at best. Please skip.
