  1. If your looking for an abundance of low quality cuts of meat that are over-cooked, then this is certainly an option.  The ribs are incredibly fatty, the steak is often extremely tough and over cooked.  The Maduros (sweet plantains) also were a disappointment as they were fairly burnt.

Agree with other reviewers about the cost being incredibly reasonable for the quantity of food, but it certainly makes sense when you see the quality of what you get.  if your stomach turns at the thought of crappy buffets like Golden Corral, then this may not be the place for you.

On the positive, the rice and beans are done well and they have this awesome yellowish sauce that is delicious.   If your doing take out, ask for extra in case you need to moisten up your dry meat.

  2. Solid Peruvian restaurant in the area.

If you can't tell, the actual place is pretty small — as in four-tables-only small. It takes up a corner spot in a little plaza, so if you aren't paying attention, you will miss it. The door was open when I stopped by for lunch and I saw a couple of bugs crawling on my table. It's a bit annoying, but then again, closing the door would be a bad idea too (it's kind of warm inside).

Lomo Saltado ($14): When it comes to portions and price, I'd say it's worth it. You get a generous scoop of yellow rice, plenty of tender beef, and fresh French fries in your dish. That's the thing with Peruvian restaurants or all South American restaurants — they serve huge portions for a great price. Thus, you will leave full. Taste wise, the yellow rice was okay. I like how they used the large grain rice, a popular choice with Turkish restaurants too. It wasn't salty or greasy. As for the beef and French fries, I'm a bit torn. While I love the tenderness of the beef and do enjoy the soy sauce base marinade for it, I think the tomatoes altered the dish a little. The natural sweetness just doesn't match with beef; the sweetness of the onions, however, was just right. As previously mentioned, the beef is tender and most of the vegetables mixed with it were nice and crisp.

There's a spicy green and white sauce on your table — add that on everything. I avoid adding sauce to dishes like this, but not only was the sauce really good, it did a great job of covering up the taste of tomato for me.

Pepe's BBQ is known for its rotisserie chicken and ribs, so I might make my way back here another day to see how much I like their specialties.

  3. Pretty good food at a good price, except for the empanadas. Those things are tiny for the $3 or 2/$5 price point.

Had the lomo saltado here twice. Very good flavor both times, but the beef was a bit tough the first time around. Other than that, it's an incredible deal for either the half or the whole. Both times I've had two full servings from the half. My friend got a whole, and that thing looks like you can feed at least 4-5 people with it.

Service was also good. Had a small laugh when they mistook me for a Spanish speaker then found out I was a Filipino. Apparently, they're Pacquiao fans!

  4. Pepe's is a good deal when it comes to convenience and quantity. Not my favorite pollo a la brassa, but is good enough that I always come back. Stick with the whole roasted chicken – plain or with garlic green sauce (if you are looking for more flavor). The large trays come with yellow rice and fries as the default, but you can substitute one of the sides for steamed vegetables if you are looking for a healthier option. A whole chicken serves about 4 people and cost $18 (not a bad deal).

  5. We picked up food from here the other night and I have to say it was awesome!!! and we have ordered from here a bunch of times before and the food is usually consistently good, not great… However Their rotisserie chicken is absolutely awesome! Honestly it's probably one of the best I've ever had…..And the other night all the things we ordered were fantastic! We got a combination plater of ribs, sausage, grilled chicken and pork and it was all great barbecue. We were very impressed! It was different than other times, idk what they changed, if they even did, but it was amazing and I would def order it again!
