I ordered the grandma pie and calamari at least 10 times by now and it has always been consistently to die for (best pizza in the neighborhood – hands down). So much flavor, fresh ingredients, and on the lighter end. I was getting some coffee at Brooklyn Roasting Co. across the street and I just had to pop in and compliment the staff who make the pizza so addicting as well as the delivery guys who have never delivered my order more than 25 minutes after an order was placed. I'm super excited for the weather to warm up so I can attend a jazz night, order some calamari, and sip on a glass of wine!
Having heard about this place from friends and wanting to expand our pizza experiences in Brooklyn, we finally got around to ordering it from Seamless one night last week. We tried the traditional margarita pizza which had a flavorful sauce, fresh mozzarella, and basil on top. The crust was slightly charred in that perfect delicious way.
Delivery was prompt and faster than expected and the pizza arrived hot. Prices are pretty typical for what you'd expect around here. Next time we hope to try Grandma's pizza which others tell us is fantastic!
I have been here a couple of times and every time my food was delish. Make sure you call ahead of time since they take a while. If you are looking for a place to hold an event, they have a nice room in the back with plenty of space. Great price and great food. Prices are reasonable. My Co workers and I just ordered the chicken roll and we all agree it's the best one we have had.
This felt like such a home-y place. So pleasant, especially when the live band came on at 7pm.
As for the food, the food delivered as well as the atmosphere. We got the large margherita pizza with olives and mushrooms as additional toppings. Let me tell you, it's a solid thin crust pizza. The crust was not soggy at all, toppings were tasty and there was the right amount of toppings.
Great service. Great pizza. Great atmosphere.
Great pizza in a part of town where good pizza is easy to find. Their left entrance leads to their rustic-in-the-cool-way pizza parlour, where they sell singles and whole pies, to eaten on the premises or to go. And to the right is their dining room, which keeps some of the same ambiance in a slightly more sit-down kind of way.
They serve a caprese salad, where they toast they tomato first, somewhat of a twist on a classic, but I'm pretty sure I'm clinically addicted to it. And their pizzas are top notch, from the sweet-yet-tangy sauce to the soft, melty cheese, and the variations on the toppings.
Their signature pizza is the "Classic Grandma Pie", a square pizza (yes, it IS hip to be square) with a slightly thicker crust than normal NY pizza. Its a good variation, and newcomers to the place should try it, but I have to say that their "normal" round pizzas are my favourites.
In the dining room, they also have a more than adequate bar, I recommend trying the signature cocktail, Navy Yard, before dinner. But not with dinner, unless you want to leave dinner feeling more than a little tipsy!
love, love, LOVE Il Porto.
I only have good things to say about this cozy, family-owned restaurant. My advice is to go soon, since that area is rapidly gentrifying and developing – I presume that the ambiance of the restaurant may change as well.
My spouse and I bike a ton. We bumped into this restaurant about 4 years ago, when it was the ONLY venue on that block, and it quickly became our favorite local pizza spot. But it is SO much more than that. Their salads, entrees are all top-notch.
The food is FRESH, really tasty and you feel like you are eating in a family restaurant in a small town – not Brooklyn. The owner often comes to your table and chats with you and the service is always wonderful.
My favorite pizza in NYC is hands-down DiFara. However, due to the 2-3 hr wait for a pie there, I only go there 4-5 times a year. When I just want a quick slice, I get a margherita slice from Not Ray's in Fort Greene. However, when I want to order pizza pies or go to a restaurant for pizza and good food – Il Porto is my favorite local spot (bonus: they deliver!).
Favorites (In no particular order):
1) Margherita Pizza: Best local and easily accessible pizza in the area (i.e., no need to wait 1-3 hours);
2) Cesare (Caesar) Salad – OMG, must order. I have never had a caesar salad like this one. It comes in a dried cheese bowl. It cannot be explained – you have to see it for yourself. It is really delicious;
3) Smoked Ahi Tuna Salad/Insalata di Tonno – It is not on the online menu, but they always have it. It was a special a few years ago and anytime I ask for it – they have it. It has fennel, arugula, lemon and is unique and really special.
4) Tiramisu Martini – I order this for dessert. I don't usually like sweet drinks – this is actually not sweet, despite the name. It is DIVINE. Perfect end to a meal.
I decided to order from here after being recommended to; I ordered takeout. I got the shrimp parm panini (initially was going to get the Margherita pizza, but I heard the paninis were really good). It's pretty good, but it reminds me of a shrimp parm you can get at any pizzeria. It's not extraordinary, but it's good. It comes with wedge fries and a salad. I personally didn't like the salad and the fries weren't to my liking but meh I sound picky. I like how the panini is not like your average panini; meaning it doesn't have the flat, grilled, crispy bread. Instead, it's more of a sandwich. The bread is really soft. Next time I come here, I think I'll order the Margherita pizza.
This review is for delivery. I had high hopes after reading the other reviews. I ordered the II Porto Pizza which looks amazing in photos. But, by the time the pizza arrived, the whole pie was soggy and all of the toppings slid right off of the pizza slice. The restaurant should re-consider delivering this kind of pizza as it definitely compromises the quality of the pizza. It's also a shame that they are one of the only restaurants in the area that charges a delivery fee ($2). I also ordered a minestrone soup for $6. It was tasty, but I will never order delivery from here again.
