Wheated
“They give you thai chili powder and honey drizzle as condiments which was delightfully different and spicy!”
“Wheated is a hidden gem with the best pizza I've ever had – better than Di'Faras, Lucali, Grimaldis, and Roberta's.”
“The Sunset Park was basically a sophisticated pepperoni pizza with spicy sopressata – a nice classic red pie.”

The pizza here is very similar to the pizza from San Marzano in Merrick. It's a thin, soft crust with a char. It's flavorful but a little flimsy. I had no qualms about the quality of the ingredients. I liked the three unique ingredients available at the table including a red pepper spice blend, a honey sauce, and a sriracha based sauce.
I give an edge to Wheated over San Marzano because of their selection of craft beers and cocktails. I had the penicillin which was a special in-house concoction. The bartenders were quite knowledgeable and made good recommendations.
For an individual pizza joint, it's pretty solid. What put me over 3 stars is the spicy honey they offer at the table, and what keeps this from 5 stars was the waitress.
We ordered :
Quinoa, snap pea, arugula salad : fairly small in comparison to their other salads. While the flavors are ok, the portion was disappointing for the price.
Grilled octopus : didn't really look that grilled to me. The octopus was fairly tender and the paprika was a nice touch. The lemon potatoes were pretty tart though and could have used a touch less lemon.
Sunset Park pizza : think of an upscale pepperoni pizza. I thought it was a solid tomato based pizza.
Brighton pizza : bacon is always great. I thought this pizza was a nice contrast to the other one we got. White pizza that paired well with the spicy honey on the table
Service : everyone here was super nice and attentive. The only off putting thing was that our waitress was a bit too attentive. This was a catchup dinner for my friends and I, and it became pretty disruptive when she kept dropping by to ask how we found everything. I think it's great if they drop by a few times to ask, but it became more like every ten minutes. Towards the end she asked us to let her know when we wanted the check. We didn't ask for it, so she came by to let us know she was putting it there… I noticed there were a few tables available, so I didn't think we were taking up a table that could be used for other guests. We ate pretty fast and just wanted to digest, so we started feeling uncomfortable after the check thing and decided to leave; hence 4 stars instead of 5.
Ok I was kinda on the edge between both Roberta's and Wheated. I love pizza and can eat it everyday for the rest of my life if possible (maybe a little exaggerated). So what did Wheated offer?
Let me give you a hint, a bathroom exists. You'll be mind blown when you see it. This restaurant isn't large, but good for a small group of friends or dates. They have a bar in the front and an open kitchen in the back. My friends and I browsed the menu for drinks and saw how many delicious cocktails they have and also a decent wine list. They have a small list of beers and a unique list of housemate sodas. I had the Lionshead Pilsner ($5) and my friends had two sodas which I forgot what they were ($3; one was hibiscus and the other had lime). I like the lime one more because it was really refreshing and citrusy. The prices for drinks were not too shabby.
Okay into the pizzas! Wowzerrrs, I learned so much about my borough in one sitting. Hahaha. It gets confusing after you look over the menu a bunch of times and it makes deciding really difficult. We opted for the Greenpoint and Bay Ridge (recommended by staff). We started with the octopus. They were seasoned with plenty paprika and has an awesome blend of flavor mixed with potatoes.
The pizzas were made right next to our table, and each time I saw they bring a pie out of the oven, I was hoping it was ours. It took about 20 mins I would say. No problem though because the restaurant is full during dinner time (8pm). Finally when the pizza came out eyes were widened. So the verdict is that it's an awesome pizzeria with really good slices and ingredients. The Greenpoint tastes best when it's eaten hot! Since there's no sauce, the cheese hardens after a while. I thought it needed some salt though. The Bay Ridge had some bomb vodka sauce. And you know what's better? Topped with chili powder and their spicy honey!! Oh my… Never would've thought honey belonged on pizza but now I'm so mind blown by this creation.
Lastly, we didn't really want dessert but like you see, the whole time I was eating and talking to my friend, the chocolate cake was like in my face. Literally. So we 3 shared a slice of almond cake with ganache and a brownie sundae. Wasn't interested in the sundae till she described this awesome peanut butter almond flavored ice cream. It all went good together and was balanced. The almond cake tasted familiar (chocolate room perhaps?) and we killed it instantly. That's how good it was.
They've set the bar high for artisanal pizzas!
**They don't accept Amex
Wheated is a great addition to the neighborhood for pizza and cocktails. They have some great flavors and toppings. Their Caesar salad and Brussels sprout salad are delicious. The mushroom pie was ok. It was lacking something… Maybe salt. Overall I like the place and the atmosphere.

Four Stars
We came here for a post dinner drink. I had this place bookmarked for pizza but I was too full for a whole pie. I had the Peaches and Peaches which was summery and delicious. I moved onto a New York Sour which is a whiskey sour with float or in this case a splash of red wine. The bartender looked a bit frazzled or new but did a great job mixing up some tasty cocktails.
A quaint place near Prospect park in Brooklyn. Their menu had promising pizzas and so decided to check them out on a weekday for dinner.
Pros :
Easy to find parking in the area (+ 1 star)
Non expensive and good whisky flight and cocktail menu (+ 1 star)
Huge selection of vegetarian and white pizzas (+ 1 star)
Contemporary and creatively named pizza list (+ 1 star)
Awesome assortment of spice rack (thai chili powder, hot honey, sriracha ketchup)
Cons –
Pizzas not brick oven despite a great crust ( (- 1 star)
Hidden washroom (cool !)
Come on guys get a brick oven, and make the joint a true Brooklyn gem….
Ah, Wheated. For me this Pizza spot has become synonymous with birthdays momentous occasions. It's probably because of the mix of creative cocktails and finely tuned artisan pies. Depending on when you arrive wait times can be upwards of 30 minutes. An addition wait time of 15-20 minutes is common for pizza arrival. It's well worth the time. I have yet to try a pie I don't like. Even the cheese less arugula pie is tasty! My wife loves that they can make nearly every pie with vegan cheese, a relatively new addition to their menu options. The prices are decent and the atmosphere is charming. I feel a faint hipster vibe every now and again but it's usually remedied by the mouthwatering pizza resting quietly in my belly. This place worthy of a trip from any borough. Just leave the ironic thrift shop dancing cat shirt in Williamsburg, please!
What a fabulous artisanal pizza/cocktail bar in Flatbush! I can't believe it took us a year to try this place. It's not very large and it quickly filled up on a Friday night. It's a beautiful spot with lots of gorgeous restored wood and a cool hidden bathroom door. A good date spot in Brooklyn.
We celebrated the end of a long with a couple of pina coladas ($9) garnished with a wedge of pineapple and a brandied cherry. We loved our drinks because it wasn't too sweet. The bartender was a lot of fun to talk to and presented our drinks with a flourish.
We started with a mountain of Cesar salad topped with snowy shavings of parmesan cheese ($10). You get six fillets of anchovies for an extra dollar. The salad was delicious and the other two salads that they have on the menu also looked delectable. Then we had the Sunset Park pizza, which had hot sopressata, tomato sauce, fresh & aged mozzarella, and parmigiano ($15). The crust was absolutely perfect – chewy, but still crispy with blistered bubbles. I thought it was a great pizza.
We ended our meal with an incredible ice cream sundae – sesame seed & peanut butter ice cream with zen butter from Chinatown Ice Cream Factory and a brownie at the bottom, topped with whipped cream and hot fudge sauce ($8.50). Ben usually doesn't care for non-chocolate ice cream, but he couldn't get over the rich and complex flavor of the ice cream. It was truly amazing and well worth the price. The ice cream sundae is a must if you come to Wheated.
Thanks for a lovely night, Wheated. We'll be back.
