We hit up angelo's as a last minute meal before heading out of town on our recent DC/NYC vacation. Angelo's is a quite large for the area (2 floors) with lot of tables. I'd recommend that you request an upstairs table by the window if one is available. We dined on a Saturday afternoon and it was pretty empty. A lot of families (with little kids) were also eating, which doesn't help the ambiance too much. Angelo's cooks their pizza using a coal oven, so the service is FAST. I'd say our entire meal took around 30 minutes to be seated, order, get our pizza, eat, and pay. We ordered a broccoli & olive pizza (one of my favorite combos) and the pizza was good — not the best pizza I've ever had, but I'd definitely eat it again. If I could give 3.5 stars, I would, but I upped it to 4 because of the quick service.
This pizzeria was conveniently located directly across from hotel we stayed at so it was a no brainer once we checked in to check this place out. We were greeted by a friendly face and seated. The bread was a little on the crispy side so we asked for a new batch which was much better until it cooled off and was hard as well. Ordered the fried calamari to start, which was very good perfectly seasoned, not to salty not to bland. Then our pizza came. The half white half margarita was delicious as well. Did notice the couple across from us order a pizza as well and the crust was very burnt. Unfortunately for them they decided to bring it to their servers attention with only 2 slices left and got hit with the "you should have said something before you ate almost the whole pizza…." So I would suggest to keep an eye out for how well you like it. But our overall experience was great!!!
I've been coming to this place for years for their margarita pizza. I think it's great, and j just recently discovered their penne alla vodka – such a great value and so delicious.
Love this place will keep coming back.
Pizza was excellent. Beautiful thin crust with plenty of mozzarella. The baked pasta was also very good. The pasta with tomato cream sauce and sun dried tomatoes was ok but not great.
The people who wrote 5 stars for this place must be either paid, crazy, or left their tastebuds at the door, or don't know real NYC pizza.
There is nothing, I repeat, NOTHING other than a colllosal mistake, or starvation that should ever drag you to eat here.
Ok, if you have to, drink, get drunk first so you won't know what you are eating.
Let me think. The decor just tells you that the proprieter started this joint in the ;ate'80s and then gave up on this space. Sold up. or ghost owns and doesn't give a damn.
Let's just leave it there.
While the Pizza looks good, big, healthy Basil leaves decorating the pies….
I'd just go buy some leaves at the grocery store and call it a day.
Skip the cranky waitress.
Skip the cramped grandpa decorated surroundings.
I had to fight the tasteless mozzerella the entire meal. Gave up. Watched as my friend ate out of…well (we can't leave it here can we and we paid for it) resigned desperation.
The crust? Cheap tasting flour that left the crust tasting like…..absolutely nothing at ALL.
I'd leave ZERO stars if i could.
Did I mention the waitress who hardly moved her lips to take our order?
p.s. while I appreciate the manager's reply, I am not sure why he is in shock.
How could I have contacted the waitress when she did not visit our table during the meal?
And I noticed that another patron also addressed the tasteless crust and you made no mention about their or my assessment of the quality of the flour.
I grew up in the NYC/Boston/NJ area and know what pizza is supposed to taste like when you use good ingredients.
The only thing this pizza had going for it was the presentation, and maybe, just maybe the sauce.
My review stands. There are waaaay better pizza offerings for better price.
Good pizza, decent pasta (3* pasta).
pasta is a bit over cooked.. but compared to Lombardi's, it's actually better pizza i thought.
Well made dough, good flavors, and tasty toppings.
Casual place for a pizza.
Good pizza. Was walking in the area and decided to stop in. The regular pizza was very very good one of the best I have had. The sausage and pepperoni was also pretty good. The sausage was in little bits and the pepperoni was of good quality. The atmosphere was decent, I like the open natural Windows that allow you to see the street. It's two stories and I had no problem getting seating here at 7 on a Monday, but it was quite busy. Overall good pizza, but probably not the best in NYC.
Walking from Central Park to find pizza, I pulled up Yelp for the best pizza nearby. I am glad I found Angelo's. We had a meatball pizza preceded by a portobello mushroom with arugula appetizer to start. Everything was terrific. The hostess was so professional when dealing with the incoming line and the exposed oven that can be seen from the dining room is fun to watch. I have a new favorite place to eat when in the city.
