I have to agree with Pedro. He took the words out of mouth. The huancaina is great here, the arroz con pollo is the best around, and their jalea is huge and perfect everytime. Some of the other dishes are very hit and miss. Like pedro stated, I wouldnt order the ceviche here unless its a sunday morning. The service and price though is on par.
Love Peruvian food and this place is not nearby but worth the trip, especially, if you are in the neighborhood.
I usually go 2 blocks down to tia delia's for Peruvian breakfast. I knew this place is a little bit nicer in décor and my gf was with me.
The waitress does not understand English well. Luckily, I know more Spanish than the average Asian. And pointing to what the other table is having is the easiest way of ordering.
I ordered the coffee with milk and my gf had the hot chocolate (tasted like swiss miss).
Each had the chicarron (Pork) sandwich. It came in a French roll not the soft Peruvian bread I'm used to. There is a thin slice of sweet potato and topped with onion salad in the sandwich. If you order the platter you get more or everything and you make your own sandwich.
I also ordered a tamale. That's why I didn't get the platter.
You know your dining in Paterson when someone begs for money, sells dvd, or ask you to help in their fund raising. This time it was a kid. He was selling candy and walked up to our table when I was at mid bite. I gave him the dirtiest look and shook my head no. He gave me an attitude like I have to help him out. Good thing we walked and I didn't park my car outside. Or I would have to worry about getting keyed. Anyways, after he made his round to the other tables on his way out my gf convinced me to give him a dollar. She didn't really have to say anything but she gave me that look.
Overall the food is good. I think the more affluent Peruvian people come here to dine. It does look cleaner than other places around the area. It is more expensive because our breakfast was over 20 bucks. The coffee and hot choco were $2.50 each. That's very expensive considering its Paterson and not Starbuck.
