Greatly we got here before 8pm on a Friday night. We were a party of two and we waited about 20 minutes or so. The service is great and our waitress kept checking in on us to make sure we were okay. For starter, we ordered the tiger prawns. 2/5 stars because the prawns were not that fresh, so they were not crunchy, but soggy. There was a total of 2 prawns, cut in halves.
For entrees, we ordered the Van Dammer (of course!) and the pizza with jalapenos, pineapple and speck (I forgot the name)! Van Dammer was magnificent as always, since I love runny yolk and brussel sprouts. The pizza dough is slightly sweet. The other pizza was also excellent, especially with the red chili flakes.
Overall, I will recommend to try this pizza joint when in Astoria. A little bit of a walk from the strip of bars on 30th Ave but it'll be worth it! Also, there's a bar right next door!
Small restaurant with great food and a cool atmosphere.
I was quickly seated at a table for 2 at 7pm on a Friday night, but there seemed to be a wait for everyone after us. Service was excellent and our waitress frequently came by our table to see if we needed anything and gave us extra time to decide on dishes when we needed. We didn't feel rushed to leave even though there were several groups of people waiting for tables.
Had the string bean salad and burrata cheese as an appetizer. The string beans were fresh and crisp and the burrata was soft and oozy and delicious! I split the S.T. the Ghost pizza which had a mix of different cheeses and burnt honey on it. The honey was just enough to leave a sweet aftertaste which made for an interesting and mouthwatering slice. Splitting the apps and pizza was enough to fill both of our stomachs with just a little extra room for dessert…which led to the chocolate budino with espresso cream and sea salt! The chocolate was rich and creamy and offset with a taste of salt. I didn't taste much of the espresso but it tasted just fine the way it was!
This is a remarkably solid member of the new "hipster pizza" wave started by Roberta's in Brooklyn and perfected by Bruno Pizza on the LES.
This is Astoria's version of the movement which, like all these spots, means pizza with soft, subtly sweet crust, whole grainy type taste, outlandish toppings, and a smaller than average size. All in all it was pretty great aside from a few missteps.
The pizza itself is exceptional, with S.T. The Ghost–which features cheddar, mozzarella, and burnt honey–being one of the tastier pies I've tried lately. The burrata here was also pretty solid.
However, an octopus starter was bland and overshadowed by the addition of olives, and the waiters gave our pizza to a nearby table in error and we had to wait a while for a replacement.
So, a few small details aside, you can definitely add Milkflower to the list of third-wave hipster pizza spots worth checking out. I am developing major love for Astoria's food scene.
A great pizza place!
We went for brunch & we sat outside. It feels so relaxing while seating under the grapes roof. They use wood fired-brick oven to cook the pizza. It was a nice place!
We got the roasted octopus for appetizer- it was the yummiest octopus I've ever had. It was soft & delicious! The only thing about it is its too small. I can finish 2 plates by myself. 😉
I got van dammer with meatballs for my food- it has egg, brussels sprouts, cracked black pepper, mozarella truffle oil & egg, I added the meatballs for extra $3. This dish is kinda boring without the meatballs. And yeah! I love meat on my pizza coz it brings more flavor to it.
My bf got the calzone- ricotta, kale & sausage & tomato sauce on the side. I like the texture of the bread. Same thing with pizza it was a little crispy. The sausage & cheese of course add flavor to the dish! The only thing is the kale is a little bitter but good thing theirs tomato sauce that perfectly match with the bitter taste.
It was great brunch experience. Definitely going back to try more of their food!
I'm a Brooklyn native-so I grew up on pizza. It got so bad that when I was a kid, I went to a doctor for stomach aches and they said I had a lot of potassium in my system- and then asked if I'd been eating a lot of cheese….point of the story is, when I saw this place open up a while ago I was intrigued…brick oven pizza is a must try, right? In this case, absolutely!
I've been here on a few dates with my fiancee (whenever we're really stressed we either work out or eat depending on what time it is) and we always have a great time!
The service is friendly, attentive and timely and we've never had to wait too long for a seat.
We usually get a bottle of red and the burrata to start and then two pies (slightly bigger than personal sized) to split. All the pizzas are really interesting but, to me, the van dammer pizza is what makes this place a five star. I won't bother describing it because it doesn't even sound like a pizza-but it tastes amazing. It's like no other pizza I've ever had in a really good way. Not saying I wouldn't come back here if they took it off the menu, but it definitely wouldn't be the same.
My only thing with this place is it's a little expensive for a pizza spot-we always spend over 100 for the two of us and I'm kind of spoiled by Joe's Pizza on carmine (which is the best NYC pizza in my humble opinion) but this isn't NYC pizza-this is a little different and a little special.

Came to Milkflower with friends at 6:30 pm on a Sunday in late April. We didn't have a wait, but the place was relatively full otherwise. There's an area for seating at the front of the restaurant, and a second area adjacent to the kitchen. There's also a small patio out back (!!!), which wasn't open for dining yet.
This is an undeniably cool place. It knows it, we know it, your grandma could probably recognize it. The best way I can think of to describe its decor is "industrial hipster" (its spirit neighborhood might be Gowanus). The bathroom was unmarked, which was probably intentional. Our waiter wore a tee shirt with a subtle Game of Thrones reference. Bohemian Rhapsody played in the background, and people sang along.
Anyway. The food! We tried the following:
Wood roasted octopus, potatoes, green olives, dill: This was a small plate shared between three people, so we each only got roughly one tentacle. But it was a delicious, charred tentacle. I also enjoyed the potatoes and the use of dill. One thing not noted in the menu description is that this dish basically comes in a bed of butter.
Spicy soppressata (with tomato, mozzarella, basil and honey): Very good pizza; although I couldn't taste much honey, there was a distinct hint of sweetness to each bite. The spiciness was quite evident as well.
Chardie Sheen (Swiss chard, hen of the woods, speck, green garlic, and young pecorino): Wins for best name. I'm not a big fan of chard (who is?), but the prosciutto and pecorino combo were awesome. Surprisingly, this ended up being my favorite dish of the night.
I can't quite give Milkflower a perfect rating, though it's difficult to say why. Maybe a touch more honey on the soppressata pizza would've done it. And it was a tad pricey. Let's say 4.5 stars and call it a day.
Apps – A, Small plates – A, Pizza – A, Indie Beers in a Can – A, Atmos – A, Service – A. Doesn't get better than this. Kind of TOO good actually. Like, what's the catch? Naw, just that good.
I'm not a pizza fan. I never crave it and if we go to a pizza place, I usually end up ordering pasta or salad. But I'm a fan of this place. I'm so happy my cousin who lives in Astoria kept telling us about their pizza. We came here with our 2 kids on Memorial Day for dinner right when they opened. There was no wait and we were seated right away.
We ended up ordering the roasted squash, tiger prawns, cacio e pepe, the Van Dammer and Spicy Sopressata pizza. The service is a little slow. We had 2 servers during our meal. The cacio e pepe and tiger prawns came out right away, but there was a huge gap until the squash came out. The food is great though. The tiger prawns were huge! They were a little too shrimpy and slightly overcooked for my taste, but everyone enjoyed them. My kids loved the cacio e pepe and we all were pleasantly surprised with the roasted squash. It was roasted zucchini with a creme fraiche and lemon dressing. The dressing was so good, we saved it to dip our pizza crust.
My favorite of the night was the Van Dammer. I keep dreaming of this pizza. It has brussels sprout leaves, mozzarella, perfectly yolky eggs and truffle oil. I was worried it would be too rich being that there was truffle oil in it, but everything was perfectly balanced and the pizza crust was crisp with a nice chew. I didn't care for the spicy sopressata. I found the sopressata too spicy and didn't taste any of the sweetness from the honey. (We had a better version of this pizza at Spuntino in Westbury.) We want to come back to try the other pizzas.
We had room for dessert and ended up ordering the gelato trio, date cake and panna cotta (yes I know, we're piggies lol). The gelato was nice and creamy, but we didn't care for the flavors. It was ginger, marscapone and chocolate, chocolate chip. The panna cotta was nice and light with candied pistachios and macerated cherries. My boys liked the date cake which was nice and moist and had a scoop of creme fraiche gelato.
All in all, we were happy to finally try this place. I've read from a couple of reviews that this place was better. I can't imagine it being better since I was so happy with the meal. Can't wait to come back!
