All I can say is it's worth a trip from the other side of the city just to dine in this little gem! I think this is my first 5-star rating!
We stumbled upon Lexington Pizza Parlour while searching for a place to grab lunch and drinks after an appointment at Mt. Sinai. Don't let the "pizza parlour" looks of this place fool you. The food and drinks here are top notch. The pizza was great but they offer so much more than that!
We were greeted by a friendly waitress who sat us and made some wonderful recommendations. She brought us some amazing fresh baked bread with a side of oil that I tried to resist but just couldn't. It was worth the extra carbs!
My son ordered a slice of their brick oven pepperoni pizza- we were pleased we didn't have to order an entire pizza. Again, I had to have a bite. It was very large and had a good amount of grease with a very crispy crust. Completely delicious. My husband got the giant sausage (yeah I just said that) and pepper grinder. Very traditional on a fresh roll.
But my meal was the "piatto forte" (pièce de résistance- yes I had to look up the Italian translation). The fire roasted chicken breast. A full delicious gourmet lunch at a great price of $15. The skin was crisped to perfection and the citrus sauce was amazing. It's served with the perfect complement of frisee salad with beets.
The beer selection was very good for a little Italian place. And there were many wines to choose from. But I decided on a specialty cocktail called the Visciole royale- wine with prosecco and a twist- right up my alley.
I am never in New York, but I would plan a trip back just to bring friends here for dinner. I need to try dessert and one of their homemade pastas!
Far from a pizza parlor, this nabe spot has creative "Italian" and Italian/American specialties in an area more known for authentic Mexican. The spot is small, but it has a killer oven- imported from Italy of course.
The Roman artichokes fried and served on top of fresh ricotta and aged balsamic was delish. The fresh ravioli with cannellini beans were a little doughy for me, but loved the butter and sage sauce. The star was the chocolate tortina with homemade chocolate gelato- like a soufflé with chocolate oozing out, this was a superstar. P.S. The red beet risotto looked amaze. Would come back for another try, despite some misses, but this joint at these prices is a real coup for the ''hood.
This place is so close to being a five star! Charming little italian restaurant (not just pizza, despite the name) with great service and very good food.
My cousin and I stopped there on the way back from some morning errands and were the only people in the place. This always worries me a little, but in this case my concerns were unfounded. The waitress was very friendly and we got an immediate seat. The restaurant is modestly sized and has a sort of old world italian vibe, not the "New York" italian that I'm more used to. Painted white and accented with some nice antique tools of the restaurant craft, they also open the side walls (only during the summer I assume) so that the whole restaurant almost feels like a patio. With the breeze coming it in feels perfect in here. I could easily imagine being in Europe instead of the Upper East Side.
We decided to order a pizza and I was pleasantly surprised by the size for the price ($15.50 for a large plain). Tasted very good, but a little too much sauce and it needed to crisp up in the oven a bit more. The sauce itself is well balanced, not too sweet. I think if the dough had been allowed another 2 minutes in the oven it would have been perfect. I'm very picky with my NYC pizza, so I can find fault with almost anything. If you ordered this anywhere else you'd probably rate it excellent. Still, these are two very minor complaints and, like I said, overall it was delicious.
Tip #1: If you haven't been here in a while, they recently were acquired by a new owner (last few months). May be worth checking out again if you haven't been in over 3-4 months.
Tip #2: They also do Seamless, and my cousin orders from there fairly frequently. He says it's pretty consistent. Solid eat in or take out option if you're in the area!
