Really solid Italian comfort food. The pasta dishes physically stand up on their own. The cheese and veggies are fresh. The pizza is bangin. The beers are so cheap.
But every time I sit down at a table for dinner, I know I'm in for a long wait. After a while, silverware will show up, then after a while maybe someone will ask if I'd like something to drink. But I'm talking fifteen minutes on a Friday or Saturday night before that bridge is crossed. Fortunately, the kitchen is much more organized, and it takes about as much time to get my entree as it does to order it.
I'd much rather wait for a table and get efficient service once I'm seated, than sit at a table wondering if I've been forgotten. And as much as I understand that weekends are busy, and that I shouldn't expect exceptional service from a local spot whose floor is staffed by high school kids, someone should figure out how to get Alba's act together.
At first look inside, Alba looks like one of those fast food pizzerias. It looked kind of small with just pizza on one side of the room and couple of seats on the other.
Then we were led deeper into the restaurant where they was a room for family dining. On my trip to the restroom, there was another larger room for bigger groups of people. This place just keeps get larger!
Food wise it is cheap and not that bad on the taste buds either. Well from the one entree I ate at least.
Baked Tilapia Oreganata ($13.95) – According to the menu, this tilapia is baked in a light wine and garlic sauce. Woah, first bite and it wasn't light at all. There was a strong flavor of white wine which almost masked any flavor the fish had. At least it was a good wine flavor and I happened to like each bite. The best part was how filling this dish was. The filet was huge and it came with a whole plate of rice. (8.5/10)

This place got your typical fast food Italian food like pizzas and zitis and then they also have your more dine in, enjoy your meal like pastas and meat entrees. Also it is affordable and the food taste decent. Be prepared to smell like pizza after your meal though.
Cousin's night in Astoria was a great success; and dining at Alba's was the perfect spot!
The food at Alba's is very good, they have a really good selection of not only pizza but also of very good Italian dishes which include so many of my favorites, it's always a chore to try to decide what to order and tonight was no exception!
I broke down and ordered the chicken rollatie with a side salad and a glass of house chianti. The entire meal was just too good and I forced myself to eat every bite, because I was on a business trip and had no way to take a doggie bag!
Our server was very pleasant and attentive. I was so busy enjoying dinner and taping with my family that we completely lost track of time and being that we were seated in the back dining room, we basically closed down the place; oops sorry staff, but thanks for not rushing us out, we had a lot to catch up on.
If your looking for reasonably priced Italian cuisine when you are in Astoria, look no further than Alba's!
This place is the real deal. If you're in the neighborhood and are looking for authentic pizza, which I know is hard to find in Astoria, then look no further and go to Alba's. This pizza is definitely the best that I've had in Astoria and has become my go-to place when I'm craving a slice or want a pie to go. Have also come here with a group to split a pie and the service is excellent. They also have a mini bar with a few beer taps, which is great if you want a pint to wash down your pizza. Definitely recommend this place!
I like their carbonara pasta.
Since I no longer have the pleasure of living in Astoria, when I do get back there, I try to test out new places. I came into Alba's for some late night cheese slices last week since it was close.
At $2.50/cheese slice, this pizza was good! It had plenty of cheese and just the right amount of sauce. It was hot and delicious. The other food looked quite delicious as well, but Alba's has a true slice of good New York pizza.
I enjoyed the Christmas decorations and the casual but cute atmosphere as well. The set up is a little odd since there is bar service, quick pizza service, and sit-down. However, this place makes it work!

Pizza places come and go in Astoria, but none compare to Albas. I've been coming here for about 3 years and I have nothing bad to say. The pizza is always perfect with just the right amount of sauce and cheese. In addition, their hot sauce is amazing!
Yeah, I'm one of those people who put hot sauce on pizza (almost anything, really). Their hot sauce is a delicious buttery and sweet hot sauce that works perfectly with their pizza and chicken rolls.
Their chicken roll is good, also. The bread isn't too hard, and it's never soggy or to greasy.
What makes this place even better is the fact that they serve beer! In fact, they serve their own craft beer.
By far my favorite everyday pizza spot! Super reliable for a good slice of New York pizza.
Welp, the delivery guy was courteous and professional. I didn't think the order was taking that long. But he called to say he had been stuff in traffic forever because of an accident in my area, and he was having an issue coming on to the street. He then told me he would park and walk down my block, and asked if I would meet him downstairs.
I looked out the window…..and traffic was slow….but moving down my block…..okay…..
Maybe he wasn't stretching the truth, as the mozzie sticks were rather cold and solid when they arrived. Didn't heat up that well in the oven. Meh.
The calzone was on point in terms of flavor, both with the dough and the innards. But they don't seal it well enough to close….it popped right open on the edges. But it did reheat well in the even a few days later. Really small portion of marinara, though.
Veal parm looked like ambrosia. But was bland as anything. Veal wasn't tough….but wasn't tender. Sauce just tasted like unseasoned tomatoes. Really hearty portion, but took a good bit of jazzing up to taste like anything. But, hey, got two meals out of it.
Guess their name tell you it all: stick to the pizza and related items. And maybe consider another option if you live on the fourth floor.
