Pomodoro Ristorante & Pizzeria
“So if you're on your way to Lombardi's and find the wait there is too long, keep moving and head here.”
“we succeeded in our plan, helped along by a street fair in Soho where a crabbity-yet-charming sunglasses vendor recommended Pomodoro.”
“The Sicilian slice was good — chewy, but not doughy (undercooked, like many other slice joints), had enough sauce, and good quality cheese.”

Went here with friends while in NYC. We ended up here due to attrition. But the place was decent. It wasn't the best pizza we found in NYC but it was still decent. The place is clean and was busy so that's always a good sign. I would go back here again as it wasn't bad, it just wasn't awesome.

Three Stars
I stopped in for a quick slice of Margherita pizza ($4). The slice was rather large. The crust was thin and crispy at the tip but became increasing thicker towards handle. I really enjoyed the bread, it had chew, dusting of flour, and hearty taste. The sauce was fresh, but one dimensional. The cheese was a bit rubbery, and I couldn't bite through it which causes you to eat all the cheese in one bite. Overall, it was decent place to get a quick bite.
the goal was to find the best, most affordable italian restaurant in or near little italy and i think we found it. it was a very cold day in december and i was underdressed so coming into the restaurant felt freaking good. i ordered the lobster bisque and manicotti filled with ricotta cheese. perhaps not the best pasta in the universe but priced right and service was friendly without being fake italian cheesy which i fucking hate. their house malbec aint bad either. check it!
I love this place! It's right next to my friend's apartment in Manhattan. It's the perfect place to get a slice of pizza because it's so close and convenient. They have many different kinds but their best one is cheese and veggie (even though I love my meat!)
I typically get the pizza to go.
Another thing…don't let homeless people in. I felt bad because between him getting stabbed and me getting dumped, I somehow felt the need to let him in and buy him a slice of pizza. I must say that I felt very thankful that I was dumped instead of stabbed in this game called life. Well, I don't think he left and then my friend gave me the dirtiest look…
Regardless, it was a great slice of pizza and it sure did keep me warm at night along with my Empire binge.
Pomodoro is a nice option for Italian food that isn't too expensive. It's s simple place, but feels homely, the pasta does not have fancy presentation or ingredients, but tastes good home style.
It's just pizza. I appreciate that they sell by the slice. I think it gives you a nice idea of New York pizza but it's just not mind blowing. It's pretty nicely priced though and it's a good place to go for a late night pizza run or a casual hang out with friends, but it's not nice dinner place.
The first time I had good pizza was when I came to Pomodoro at the age of 17. Back then I didn't know about Grimaldis, Vezzo or even Lombardi's about a block away but knowing what I knew now about those Pizzarias depending on the time / day that they make it, they're not too different but this one has the best bang for the buck. It feels like a Ray's Pizza but taste like a Lombardi's.
If you're ordering a pie, I would say go for it as it almost guarantees fresh from the oven taste. or if you want just a slice, what I usually do is wait for a pie that just came out from the oven and order that. I can tell you if it's been sitting out long then reheated, I would prefer not to eat it. If I had friends coming from out of NY and want to take them to a local pizzeria, this is the one I bring them to.
Pizza dough too thick and not enough sauce and cheese for my taste. Prefer the $1 pizza over this place.
