“This is my friendly neighborhood corner pizza joint while subletting in Murray Hill.”

“I like it better than Patsy's, grimaldi's, totonno's, etc. Not as good as brooklyn, but still very good.”

  1. I came here on a day when New York was supposedly preparing for a really bad snowstorm and everywhere else was closed (even the McDonald's across the street). The pizza was really good! I ordered a margheritta pizza. It had a relatively doughy crust and good cheese to tomato sauce ratio. I wouldn't go out of my way go come here but it's a solid option for late night food or if you just happen to be craving pizza and you happen to be in the neighborhood.

  2. We had been to this place a few years ago and it was awesome. I'm not really sure what's happened since then but it's definitely fell off. I was at a work meeting in the area and was so excited to have their grandma slice again. Unfortunately for me, it was barely heated through and it was practically flavorless. Being in a hurry I ate it anyway but it was so not worth the price that I paid. Not even worth a $1. Such a shame. In addition to that, the place was pretty dirty, all the tables, unoccupied or otherwise, were full of crumbs and other dirt. They look and felt like they hadn't been wiped down in a while. I happened to be on the phone with hubby telling him how dirty this place was and then magically some guy came over to wipe down the table next to me. Overall I wouldn't come back to this place and unless your desperate for food, I wouldn't recommend it.

  3. I was pretty disappointed with my experience here. It just goes to show you that not all pizza in NYC is ranked the same for a reason. Sometimes, it's better to go to a place with more stars.  I ordered a slice of pasta pizza and a slice of margherita pizza and unfortunately both were pretty bland. It wasn't the worst pizza I've ever had, but at about $4/slice, I wish I had spent my money somewhere else. The slices are large, but the quality wasn't good.

  4. Had a CE course at the hospital and NYU graciously supplied lunch with LOTS of pizza from Brick Oven.

This is a review of the delivery service and pizza, I didn't dine in.

The slices were generous and filling. I loved that it was thin crust, but I like a crispy thin crust so my initial excitement deflated pretty quickly. The crust itself was kind of bland. The cheese was good and so was the sauce. The pizza itself was kind of soggy. This could be due to the extra travel time of having it delivered, but I doubt it. The Pepperoni was pretty greasy and I could understand why, but the Cheese pizza (not pictured because I skipped it) was equally drowning in grease! WTH? Where'd all the grease come from???

All in all, I ate it and was full (I had missed breakfast and had been working all day without any snack breaks) but I probably wouldn't eat there if given a choice with other options.

  5. Returned after a long time break after bad quality experiences here..8 years ago this place was good. The lasagna slice- crust cracked in half.. hate that.  Toppings were low quality.  Totally overpriced..Like nuts what they charged. I'll give it 1.5 stars..Edible, but the type of pizza that must only taste good drunk.  Good thing it's in this area.

  6. Pizza 33 is a good pizza spot, BUT you have to be flexible when readying to order here.  As other reviewers have noted, pizza quality ranges from lackluster to phenomenal, and all of that's based purely on how fresh a particular pie is.  For best results, order a personal pan / pie made to order, or pick a slice from a fresh(er) looking pie that's out on display.

Plain and pepperoni slices here are good go-to's as there's a lot more turnover and plenty of gooey cheese on each to swirl around your finger as you get every last bite in!  Their buffalo chicken is OK, but unless it's fresh out of the oven (read: not reheated) I'll take Garlic or Rocky's any day of the week.

Service for me has always been nice though, and they're happy to give you the run down on what's fresh and what other variants they can cook up for you…props for that!

  7. Meh, I've had better. I had the margarita personal which was mediocre. The crust was cooked well so I'm sure the regular pizza is decent.

I also order the garlic knots which were a fail. They were dry on the inside, I might as well have ordered regular bread with garlic sprinkled on it.

I wouldn't order the margarita from here again, or the garlic knots.

  8. I can't believe that yesterday was the first time I've ever tried Pizza 33 after all these years. I believe, they've been around for at least 10 years and had even undergone one renovation during that time.

So my first order with Pizza 33 was through Seamless: a simple large sausage pizza, which was around $26 dollars. The pizza came fast within 20 minutes. After learning to love super-thin crust pizza (a la Vezzo), Pizza 33 was a revelation! The crust was very thin, but not as thin as Vezzo (in the same neighborhood). The crust was made with conventional pizza dough found in New York style pizza, which is chewy and doughy. But at Pizza 33, it's flattened to a very thin margin and retains the taste of regular dough. Vezzo's crust however, is cracker-thin and savory. Pizza 33's tomato sauce has the taste of tomato paste, which is more concentrated. The sausage was sliced longitudinally, so we witnessed long strips of sausage laying on top of the pie.

All in all, the pizza was a very interesting blend of traditional gas oven New York style pizza done in the style of higher end pie (i.e. a very thin crust and quality toppings). Since I felt the quality of the tomato sauce and the sausage was excellent, I would rank this pie better than your standard New York slice joints. I would definitely come again as they dare to be different.
