Coppola’s West

“I went here on a Thursday night with my parents and we really enjoyed the food and homey neighborhood feel of this intimate spot.”

“Perfect al dente-satisfyingly-chewy texture, perfect amount of cream sauce, generous amount of high quality pancetta mixed in.”

“Try ordering pizza from here instead of the mediocre pizza places on the UWS….you won't be disappointed.”

  1. Tasty and pricey Italian in Manhattan. Yes, you'll pay about $20/entree, but you do get quite a bit of food (make sure you can take what you don't eat to-go and eat it the next day!) and it is pretty delicious. I got the veal parmigiana – a HUGE piece of veal atop cheesy, marinara and spaghetti goodness. I always think Italian places can chill on the cheese a bit, but the marinara was very good and the noodles were obviously homemade. I would have loved to try dessert, but I was too stuffed!

  2. "Not a Destination but Good for Locals"

I would never recommend you journey out of your way to eat here, but if you live, work, or are incarcerated on the UWS, this a decent option.

Not the best Italian food I've had but it's affordable ( $11-16 for most entrees),
they deliver, and if you keep it simple it's pretty good.

Simple as in Penne with vodka sauce, or Linguine with mushrooms and chicken. The seafood based pastas I've had were bland (probably frozen seafood ) and the veal parmigiana  was so-so. I like the marinara sauce that comes with the fried zucchini better than the zucchini itself (too much breading).
Maybe it was a bad day  they but they screwed up Spagetti and meatballs. The meatballs were basically flavorless balls of meat.

I order from here regularly since I work in the area , but if I didn't would I ever think of it again ?

    Probably not.

    4 if you're in the area/ 3 if you're not = 3.5

  3. Really great neighborhood Italian place. This is definitely a nook, so come prepared to wait if it's at peak dinner hours or the weekend.

I got the eggplant and it was YUM! Covered in cheese and garnished with penne pasta. I enjoyed it and the wine menu as well.

If you are staying off 77th on the Upper West Side or within walking distance drop on by. Good for locals and visitors alike.

  4. Solid, decent pizza at pretty good prices. It's a little greasy, yes, but you may like that sort of thing. The crust is a little floppy, yes, which precludes good efforts to hold in your hand as opposed to eat with a knife and fork, but some people are just fancy like that. The pizzas are a little small, yes, but order a bigger size or relish the opportunity to slim it down. Coppola's West will satisfy your delivery needs in a pinch, because we all know the UWS is hurting for great delivery.

  5. My husband and I were celebrating our 2nd year wedding anniversary and we wanted to do something on the UWS so we didn't have to venture to far from Harlem.  This restaurant was recommended on OpenTable and so I did my research and decided upon this establishment.  We had reservations for 8pm and we arrived about 10 minutes late but they seated us immediately.

The decor of this place I loved.  It is a rather small restaurants with less than 40 tables.  The decor included beautiful chandlers and bronze and brown tones throughout the restaurant.  Our server was decent but nothing out of the ordinary.

I started with a glass or Riesling from their huge wine listed.  For appetizers my husband and I had the breaded calamari.  For my entree Rigatoni al Pesto and my husband ordered Pan Seared Chiliean Sea Bass. His dish definitely tasted better than mine but it tasted pretty good.

For some reason it seemed a very fast dining experience ( which I am not complaining about).  Overall it was a great dining experience and will be back to give it a second try.

  6. When you're right, you're right.  And when you're wrong, you're wrong.  I ordered again from Coppola's this past week and everything went totally fine.  The order was set to be delivered between 8:30 and 8:40 and I received it at 8:35.  The delivery man was nice and everything was perfectly packaged/not leaky.

The portions were the same as last time and the food was much more visually appetizing (pics attached).  Feeling relieved that I can give this place the rating that the food actually deserves.

  7. So while apartment hunting in the UWS looking at my phone trying to figure out where the subway station was, a large, loud, generous gentleman asked if I needed help. I said I was all good just locating the subway and going to get something to eat. He said I needed to walk a block south, half a block east and eat at Coppola's West. He swore up and down that he had no financial interest in the business, just that it was damn good. So I went, ate and fell in love with this charming, narrow restaurant. First off, the service was amazing. Second, get the meatballs. I had linguine in the white clam sauce. It was very tasty, some of the clams had a tad of grit, but I could get past that. I would be perfectly happy to eat my way through their entire menu.

  8. The concierge at the Hotel Belleclaire recommended this place to us, which was only a few blocks away. The experience was a roller coaster ride.

This restaurant has a very charming atmosphere and a brilliantly placed wood burning over; basically on the dining room floor for everyone to see. We were seated promptly by a very enthusiastic waiter. The service was ok, not too expeditious, but not too slow either.

After ordering some wine from what was a very decent selection we chose our appetizer, Beef Carpaccio. I must say, this might have been the absolute best version of this dish that I have ever had. If not the best, then definitely in the top three.

For the entree we opted for the Veal Scaloppine and Risotto de Mare. These might have been the worst versions of these dishes I have ever had. As far as roller coasters go we were at the trough. The scaloppine were nothing like I have ever had before, they were baked with asparagus, red bell pepper and a piece of mozzarella on top. The veal itself was rubbery and chewy. The risotto was very disappointing. It had no texture or flow to it. It was not laced with seafood, but rather was simply prepared as cooked rice with pieces of seafood on top of it. Nothing exciting at all.

For dessert our roller coaster cart started to clime a bit higher as we reached the peak with a corner slice of Tiramisu and a very tasty espresso. The ride came to a stop as we received a slight discount for mentioning the hotel which recommended the restaurant in the first place.
