Bellini is one of my boyfriend's favorite restaurants from his college days, so I was excited to try it.
We really liked that they allowed us to BYOB, although they do have a beer/wine license of their own. Conveniently, there is a wine store next door, where we picked up a bottle of Pinot.
The restaurant itself is very cozy with a minimalists take on decor. The food is definitely quality – very fresh and well-prepared, although the spaghetti portion was very small. The pizza fared much better, size-wise. The tiramisu was also pretty amazing.
A bit of an overshot with my rating but I am going to give them the 4 stars since it was Valentines Day and I am feeling generous. We didn't go in with high expectations – we had visited a few years ago on Valentines Day and never went back because of the poor service but we decided to give the new management another shot. The mushroom risotto balls were excellent — the dish would be better off with some dollops of aioli on the plate rather than a dish of it. I saw someone elses Kale Caesar Salad and had a bit of order envy. Our beet salad was a little demolished, we hesitated to accept the dish because we didnt even know what it was. I had the carbonara and it was the best comfort food ever! The service was still a bit slow, felt like we were back in Europe while waiting for our check. ALSO, the music was WAY too loud but the bread was warm, the ambiance was cozy, and the food was delicious!
Great neighborhood pizza place. Very cozy with excellent customer service. I've been here twice and had the same waiter. He's very accommodating with a great sense of humor and even fixed the wobbly leg of my table. The brick oven pizzas are pretty great. I recommend the large over the small size since the small was a bit dry. Not sure if it was because of the proportion of heat to bread but when I ordered the large, it came out perfect: crunchy crust with melted soft cheese. I love that it is byob. They have a great arugula salad with beets and a balsamic dressing.
The only thing good was the bread and penne vodka. Service was HORRIBLE! They lied about the cork fee on open table. We also saw him turn away customers for groupons. The waiter constantly had to ask his boss EVERYTHING. He ignored us when we asked for the check. Clam capellini was average. Eggplant parmesean was ok, rigatoni bolognese wasn't good. We'll never come back.
This place is just your run of the mill basic Italian joint. Nothing too special about it. The caprese appetizer wasn't that great. The tomatoes were barely ripe. I ordered the greek salad as my main entree item and received a caesar. The server was apologetic and I decided to keep the caesar. The croutons were out of a bag, and the chicken that was $4 to add was the size of my palm, if not smaller. It also was overcooked and tasted like jerky. My friend got the eggplant parmesan. The eggplant was covered in what appeared to be plastic cheese.
The ambiance was really odd too — it was all over the place. It was trying to be romantic and nice but it just looked cheap and cluttered.
Service was quick, efficient and friendly though.
had lunch on the way to visit museum of natural history. i tell you, their pizza dough was the best! burnt smell of brick oven, crispy but soft side, not too much but enough salty taste… if you make a good choice of topping, you will really enjoy their pizza.
just one thing; quantity of pasta wasn't satisfying for me (7 pieces of one bite ravioli). it was quite busy and waiter was literally running around, but if he could cool himself down and mention about portion of food, i could be happier, since it tasted really good.
One word: Carbonara.
After a whole day walking through Manhattan, all we needed was some comfort italian food; Bellini is a little place in Upper West Side with great pasta and lovely staff!
Too hot in front of the pizza over. Uncomfortably so.
Cheesy decor. REALLY cheesy. Distractingly so.
Good caesar.
So-so meatballs in good marinara.
