SOOOOOOOOO good! Probably some of the best pizza I've had in NYC!
We read about this in the hotel guide and went out to find it. It was quite empty when we got there, but after we arrived, it filled up. The deal was awesome-2 slices and a free soda for $5! And these slices were big!
I had two plain slices and having them made me miss NYC pizza even more now that I live in Boston. Why can't they have an outpost here?
There was a ton of variety of pizza–eggplant, garlic, chicken, etc. The mozzerella pizza and eggplant were the kind my friend tried and the mozz looked REALLY good. Kinda wish I got that one!
If I'm on the UWS, I'll def eat at Pizza Pete's again.
My favorite sit-in. Two slices earns a free soda. Plus King of Queens or How I met Your Mother is normally on.
The Meat Lover's Pizza and their Margherita Pizza is normally first rate. There are usually eight or nine choices on hand.
I was in the neighborhood and looked up a pizza place to go to for a quick bite. this came up with good reviews. cheese slice is decent (the thin and crispy variety), but it looked pale (as opposed to red-orange in a more proportioned slice) and flimsy. this is due to the lack of sauce. personally, I prefer a slice with a better sauce coverage. for $2.75, this stings. this is also a grubhub 2012 winner. maybe this is good for this neighborhood, but anyone who's eaten pizza around the city can find better for less.
I had some time to kill while hanging in the Upper West Side and was feeling for some quick pizza. Low and behold, I open my trusty Yelp app and Pizza Pete's popped up as the highest rated spot in the area. Located on Columbus Ave between 85th and 86th is where you'll find this small pizzeria. Looking at this place from the outside, it looks pretty much like a hole in the wall pizza joint. The decor is close to non-existent, and there are a couple tables scattered here and there. Nonetheless, it can't hurt to try right?
As far as their pizza goes, I did like the fact that their slices weren't overly salty. The pizza crust and sauce weren't very memorable, as I don't remember how tasty they were, but it wasn't horrible enough for me to remember that fact either.
Price-wise, a plain slice costs $2.75, and a one topping will run you $3.50. I ended up opting for a plain slice and a Hawaiian. The best part? Buy 2 slices get a free soda. If you do decide to dine here, there is a TV that usually has ESPN going on.
Pizza Pete's. Not a bad spot if you're around the block. I could see myself eating here from time to time if I were to live close by. However I wouldn't be traveling here to eat from downtown Manhattan.
I am not a fan of this place. First and foremost, their crust, although crunchy on the bottom, is extremely soggy right underneath the toppings. But, also, it's almost always a madhouse, oftentimes bordering on what may be known in some–less than poetic?–circles as an absolute "sh*t show."
This place is incredibly underrated. I dare you to get a slice from here and a slice from Joe's (which I also love) and do a blind taste test — I find them to be very similar, and I don't think Joe's would win that contest by a wide margin (if at all). Pizza Pete's is very nondescript, and I could take or leave the non-pizza items. But for a slice of classic counter NYC pizza, I honestly don't believe there are many places better.
Every single week, I visit this neighborhood pizzeria to pick up 2 slices of pizza with mozzarella and the notorious free fountain drink. It's always served with a smile. The owner really cares about his clients. Pizza Pete's is consistent in the quality and freshness of the food they serve. The crust is so nice 'n thin, the amount of cheese is just right, and the sauce is also perfect. Definitely a neighborhood gem in disguise. So much better than Papa John's or Domino's…
Great slices! Crispy bottom, tasty, non-oily cheese and a lightly sweet, well seasoned sauce. The quintessential NY-style slice. Decently priced at $5 for 2 plain with a drink. Will definitely be back.
By the way, there was actually a Pizza Pete, but he's long gone apparently.
