Daniela Trattoria

“The Prefix is a good value for the Theatre District, so this is a good restaurant to try before a show.”

“Probably not but it is a great place to get a good authentic meal in the middle of this awful tourist trap called Times Square.”

“It was wonderful and I would definitely go back if I'm ever in the area, especially if seeing a Broadway show.”

  1. This is only a review on their delivery options because I've ordered from them on Seamless about a half dozen times in a year! I've never eaten in the restaurant itself. Keep in mind, I'm not an Italian pasta connoisseur, so my taste may not align with authentic Italian diashes.

I always get their bolognese sauce, but I've always tried different pastas with it. The sauce is so thick and creamy and really hits the spot. It's my favorite sauce. I always come back for this and will continue to do so.

I've also had the barisi pasta with broccoli de rabe and sausage (alright, although the sauce is very watery, so it's like eating pasta with veggies and meat – but as three separate ingredients).

I've ordered another pasta that was also a more watery sauce. I would stay away from any pastas that are garlic and olive oil based, as those don't hold the pasta with the other ingredients well. I think you'll do ok with anything cream-based and that's why this place gets 4 stars.

I remember ordering the Antipasto once – it was HUGE. A good mix of everything. I would probably get it again.

  2. I came here for a friend's birthday dinner on Saturday night. They graciously accommodated 15 people at the last minute which was nice. It wasn't crowded at all and we were the largest party in the place. I got the pizza marinara to share with my boyfriend and it was good; tasted very fresh and was hot. We also had some garlic bread as an appetizer which had a very strong garlic flavor. We had a few pitchers of sangria for the table. It was a sweeter sangria than others I've had, which was good. It didn't seem very strong though, but then again, it is wine. The service was attentive and friendly and prices aren't too bad. Overall, it's a solid option if you're looking for a place to eat in the area or need to make a last minute reservation.

  3. A wonderful little cafe to grab food prior to a show.  The food is really fresh and delicious for a reasonable price.  I had an amazing grilled portobello salad with walnuts.  The salad dressing was fantastic.   My friends had the pasta bolognese sauce and an omelet.  They were both very pleased with their choices.  The service was really great as we were in and out in no time to catch our show.  the place is very clean and smartly decorated.

  4. My boyfriend and I were going to see Wicked that started at 7pm. We wanted to find an Italian  restaurant that was nearby so we can just walk over. I did some research. I was torn between here and another restaurant. Looking thru the menu and reviews, I went with Daniela Trattoria – and boy am I happy we did! Our reservation was made for 5:30pm. From reading reviews, I requested to sit upstairs. When we walked in the main seating area was very busy, so thinking upstairs would be quiet, it was not. It seemed like they had a party or something going on up there. Noise doesn't bother us too much though. We sat down and ordered right away some appetizers – mozzarella sticks and baked clams. The baked clams were out of this world! They were not fishy at all, on the more breadcrumb side, but the sauce served with it was delicious! We then noticed the prix-fix menu option for $35 which included appetizer (soup or salad), entree, and dessert with coffee/tea. We decided to do this (can you tell we were hungry?!) We both had a Caesar Salad (fresh, but a little too much dressing). I ordered the rigatoni alla vodka and asked to add grilled chicken. My boyfriend ordered a chicken dish with broccoli, potatoes and peppers. He ate the entire dish. I loved my pasta dish! Alla vodka sauce was perfect. However, the grilled chicken wasn't included in the dish so I said something. The waiter apologized and said he would go get it. But by the time the grilled chicken came out, I had already finished. I felt bad since I should have said forget it, but it doesn't take that long to make a piece of grilled chicken either. But no biggie, wasn't gonna let it ruin my meal. For dessert we ordered the cannoli and the chocolate cake. Cannoli was delicious! Cake ehh. I had coffee, he had a cappuccino. Overall, the food was DELICIOUS, we were so full and satisfied! We both want to go back next time we see a show. The noise level by the time we left (6:45pm) was fine. We probably just walked in at the busiest dinner rush. I would say about 6 employees said "Thank you, goodnight" as we were walking out. Very nice touch. Price was right and waiters were friendly and attentive. DEFINITELY COMING BACK 🙂

By the way, if they offered a groupon or living social… oh man I think I would go into the city just for it! 😉 **hint hint**

  5. Some of the best bolognese and penne a la vodka I've had. Highly recommended.

  6. We came here for breakfast on a Sunday morning. The door and windows were open to the street which offered a nice airy feel, and didn't notice the traffic noise. We were greeted warmly and sat down quickly. Tables were close together and a little crowded. Hard to get out without having to maneuver around others who were seated, making me appreciate the wait staff even more. Breakfast was very good, except my daughter's toasted bagel was too crispy.  My hubby is a French toast snob and liked his meal very much! Eggs over easy were perfect and the pancakes were yummy. Home fries were very good. Servers were all attentive and friendly despite how busy it got. I'd love to try Daniela's for lunch or dinner! Left there feeling happy.

  7. Walked in with no reservation made but they seated us immediately. We enjoyed the chicken Marsala, cheesecake and cannelloni. Wonderful atmosphere and the service was impeccable.

  8. Daniela isn't going to be winning any awards for the best Italian food any time soon nor are they the best deal in down. That being said the prices were reasonable, the food was decent, and the service was very attentive. The place is very spacious and the neverending slightly toasty warm bread was a great touch. The sangria was excellent and both my girlfriend and her mother were very happy with their pasta dishes. Her father and I were a little less thrilled with our dishes (ravioli and seafood risotto respectively) but they still weren't bad by any means. Overall it's a nice Italian spot in the neighborhood with very good service and sufficient elbow room but if you don't need to stay in the theater district and are looking for a better Italian meal in the same price range, it can easily be found elsewhere.
