You would think pizza is always good, but not this one.
I got a regular small pizza and it's kind of pricey for what it is. They pretty much burned the bottom of the pizza and the pizza was lacking major flavor.
This was the first time I had pizza that was bad. However, I do get that they want it to be "skinny." But, it's not working for them. If you want pizza, why do this to yourself? It should be a crime!
Go all out, I say!
We came here for a late lunch when we were walking past Hudson eats. I ordered the gluten free skinny veggie pizza with daiyya cheese, which has to be ordered as a 12" pie. It was around $19+, with additional cost of daiyya cheese and gluten free crust. While I thought it was on the expensive side for a pizza pie, after looking at quantity I though the cost was justified.
My trouble with gluten free pizza is that they are almost always thin crust, and I am not personally a huge fan of thin crust pizza. When I am craving pizza what I am really craving is the dough, and I prefer a thicker crust. This pizza was just that, they bake the pizza on a disposable tray so it doesn't touch the oven (and gluten particles from other non GF pizzas) and they give you your very own pizza cutter! The flavor was delicious (better eaten hot) but I ate leftovers it the following day after heating it in the microwave and it was still pretty delicious!
One of the better GF pizza in the city and I have pretty much tried them all!
For gluten eaters – my boyfriend has tried the regular version of the veggie pizza and the buffalo chicken and found the veggie pizza the best but particularly the crust that they make here, one of the best in the city. Give it a try!
Pizza "with a healthy twist" may not seem like the best idea, but I figured the most interesting part of a pizza is the top, not the crust, so I gave it a chance.
The "classic" is a reasonable facsimile of "normal" New York pizza, getting rid of some dough and some grease while retaining a good degree of the taste. I preferred the margherita, which had a very good tomato topping, and this option comes closer to being a new thing rather than a scaled-down version of something else.
I can't go crazy about this place yet. I stopped by today and had one slice of their Hawaiian pizza – clocks in at $4.25 if i remember right. It was alright – but they served it to me with the crust burnt. I got a side of marinara at no extra charge and basically doused my slice in the marinara, which was tasty. I love the concept here – low fat cheese, low sodium tomato sauce, whole wheat crust etc. But what kind of place burns their crust and still serves it. However, I'll still give it another go before I say no way.
Located within the new Hudson eatery at the World Financial Center, SkinnyPizza looked like they were onto something when my eyes ran through their menu.
Did a half-half of their Buffalo Chicken and Margherita pizza pie (16in). They were like actual pizza slices, which definitely means the pie was too much for 2 people. The crust itself is super skinny, but then completely overloaded with the fats: cheeses, oil, meats, etc. This really took away the skinny part of things.
I've always asked myself — is it possible to ever have TOO much cheese? Well, Skinny Pizza has proven that the answer is yes. Apparently, you can have too much cheese when you overdrench a thin pizza pie and crust.
Also, not cost-friendly either. This pie cost me almost $25.
Crispy cracker style pizza. The personal pies are freshly made (~10 minutes). Fits into the fancy atmosphere of Hudson Eats, but I wouldn't really consider it pizza given that you're in NYC.
Eh it's ok. Kind of expensive for a small fast food flatbread. About $12 for a wheat flatbread with cheese and mushrooms. Not much flavor.
