There are loads of competition for Italian in North Jersey, but this is the best of the 'burbs! Having had amazing Italian in both New York and throughout Italy herself, let me tell you, Russillo holds its own.
This is my absolute go-to when I'm home at my parents' house. The Scaffetuni Enzo is so mind-blowingly delicious that my family always orders it for the table as an appetizer. Yes, always. And any time someone new in our party tries it for the first time, you better believe it's a staple on every visit of theirs from that point forward. It's a vicious cycle, really. Extra-large rigatoni covered in bolognese sauce with spinach and a touch of cream? I mean, how can you go wrong here? It's no wonder the chef has named the dish after himself. This would certainly have to be Russillo's specialty.
I could go on and on – the Chicken Cardinale, the Tortellini Michelangelo, the Stuffed Rigatoni Margherita round out my favorites – but really all you need to know is that this place is fantastic, fantastic, fantastic. Russillo is beyond some of the best Italian in Essex County – it's some of the best Italian anywhere.
Yum! One of my new favorite spots in the Caldwell area!
The first time I came here for a friend's birthday, and ordered an arugula salad with scallops and balsamic glaze – so tasty. We were accommodated in the back room with two tables and it was comfy and spacious. Also tried my cousin's Lobster Ravioli and it was delicious and had baby shrimp and asparagus in the sauce.
Second visit I got the Seafood Salad (delicious, light lemon and oil taste) and a corner slice of Grandma's Pie. LOVED IT. I will definitely be ordering Grandma's Pies to-go in the future from here. It was absolutely crispy crust, full of tomatoes and basil, and light on the mozzarella how I love it. Perfect.
Other perks of this restaurant is the separate front (casual) and back (more dine in) parts, super friendly and accommodating staff, and the BYOB factor. Pretty much all meat/chicken entrees also come with a whole plate of veges/mashed potatoes. My dad's fish came with a dish of linguini. Good prices, too. Will definitely return and order to-go pies!
I came here for lunch for the holidays with work, the menu is pretty large with a lot of choices, For a start we ordered garlic knots for the table and some assorted hot apps. I ended up getting the Rack of Lamb which was cooked perfectly. The meat had a great taste and side were perfect. The waiter was pretty friendly he check up on us every now and then
For dessert i had there creme brulee, which was a good size. I was quit happy with it and my experiance here. I would come here again if i was in the area.
This place us BYOB, if you should fancy some wine with your lunch or dinner.
When you enter the space, you are walking into a pizzeria. One the left, there is a corridor that takes you to the back of the restaurant, which has a private party room in the back. The room turns into the regular dining area for dinner.
We've been here twice..and both times it was for a lunch party/celebration.
The service is friendly, and the food has been great.
The calamari was so fresh… some of the best i've had. their caprese salad was also nice… also had the tilapia with a lemon sauce. the entree came with some vegetables, mashed potatoes, etc.
Everything was great. Do want to come by one time to try the pizza, and some of the other food.
