It's been at least 2 years since we last ordered from Clark BBQ because it was bland and dry last time. Over the weekend, we got the 1/2 chicken and 1/2 ribs platter with rice and cubed potatoes to-go, and the chicken was nicely flavored and juicy. The ribs were a bit dry, but that seems to be the norm for Portuguese BBQ.
Huge portions, and well-seasoned once again!
I write this review in hopes that the owners of this Portuguese BBQ place read it and take the criticism as a way to help improve their customer's experience.
I came here hoping to get some great fire grilled chicken as I have had in other Portuguese style BBQ places in the region. Instead the chicken was dry and almost flavorless. I am not sure if it was sitting around for a while and just heated up or overcooked, but I was shocked at how far it was from other BBQ chickens I had in both flavor and moisture.
I did have to wait about 25 minutes for my order to arrive. As I sat there I noticed a very large take out order being completed. Perhaps that is the reason it too so long and the chicken came out the way it did.
I asked for very little rice, I got a mound of rice. I asked for vegetables instead of fries, I got very mushy peas and carrots. The kind that comes out of a can and gets heated up. I am not sure if that is the case here, but it was not appetizing at all. When the table next to me received their dish with rice and broccoli, I asked for broccoli instead of the peas and carrots. I received a side of broccoli, that I believe was microwaved. At least that is how it tasted.
Finally, when one of the guys came over and asked how everything was, I showed him the "so so" sign, he said "everything is good then" and walked away.
Please, if you really don't care how your customers are doing, don't come by and ask!!
I say this place has potential because I was watching the guys work. They work hard and seem to be trying.
While I was eating, I kept thinking this place could use one of those TV shows that comes in, teaches the owner and cooks, how to prepare the food properly and completely gut renovates the interior.
As I said, this place has potential, and I would come back if they got their act together as I prefer to support small family type businesses that cook well.
For now, Chipotle nearby, does much better and more flavorful chicken for my money.
Huge portions!!!! Holy moly, I did not realize a platter was enough for 4 people. I came here with the hubs bc I was craving some meat. Originally, I was going to order a chicken platter and my husband was going to order the 1/2 chicken 1/2 rib. Then after reading my handy dandy Yelp reviews, we decided that to share a 1/2 chicken 1/2 ribs platter and add on wing dings.
First of all, I wasn't expecting much from the wing dings but they were delicious!!!! They were freshly fried. Crispy on the outside and moist on the inside. I would definitely order it again. The rib and chicken platter came out and my eyeballs almost popped out of my head. It was huge! While both the chicken and ribs were delicious, the chicken was the star of that platter. The fries were delicious and rice was nicely flavored and not dry. We ended up making another meal out of the platter the next night because it was so much food. Next time, I think I'll stick with the chicken and rice platter. For the price and the amount of food you get, it's one of the best values in Union County.
My only complaint is that because they are super busy, we were forgotten about a couple times. We had to ask for the check 3 times. Other than that, I would def come back but maybe for take out.
1/2 Chicken 1/2 Rib Combo Plater is the way to go! Be prepared to wait for a table on a weekend night; this place gets pretty packed.
Never a disappointment with the food at the Clark BBQ. It's casual Portuguese cuisine in it's most simple and tasty form. The food and sangria are always great!
Their to-go/pick up orders do take annoyingly longer than expected, but otherwise – no complaints!
Huge portions at cheap prices! I have never seen anything like it. Food was your typical Portuguese fair, and it was very well prepared. I loved the fact they added shredded carrots to the rice. It made a boring side dish tasty and different. Great French fries, too! Service was efficient and friendly. They have beer and wine only.
Small place but if your Portuguese you will love it!! Really authentic food! The service was really good we had Irene and like she said she makes a mean sangria!! Super good 🙂 it was a little dry and salty for me I'm used to Indian bbq chicken tandoori style so that's why! My husband loved the food he got the pinadouch or something little that which is there best! Share plates or get the half orders as you know Portuguese portions are huge!! They have a full bar and so affordable $16 for a pitcher of amazing sangria!!
Since my last review, they have improved the fries and may have some outdoor seating in warm weather.
The $8.50 ribs plus 2 large sides is a bargain and the larger $14.50 version easily serves 2. Chicken I believe is 1 less.
Great service, very fast food delivery and delicious food above all. We ordered from the restaurant for an office birthday celebration and it was fabulous – classic Portuguese food, huge portions and lots of flavor, especially the sausages (we ordered chicken, steak and sausages)d! I love the salads they have so that's a plus and the fries were also pretty good (considering delivery). Rice was delish, perfect amount of flavor!
I've been here before for dinner – it was so good! Hence why I suggested it for the office. If you have an appetite, come to this spot, your belly won't be disappointed, unless you're on a diet, then you shit outta luck. This place isn't for dieters.
