  1. My coworkers had arranged a private dinner for us here on a Mon night. Of course I got out of work late and met everyone there. As soon as I walked in I was greeted by the waitress and she was very welcoming. She led me to my group, handed me the menu, and made some suggestions. I ended up ordering broiled salmon, grilled zucchini and mashed potatoes. My coworkers already had carafes of Portuguese red wine on the table so I had a glass of that and would recommend it.

A few minutes later the waitress started bringing everyone's order out. The steak looked great but I didn't try it. Someone in our group ordered the shrimp and scallops which I did try and it was tasty. My food didn't take long to come out and I was still able to eat with my group even though I arrived late. My salmon was good but slightly overcooked, grilled zucchini was still crisp and the mashed potatoes were decent, nothing to rave about.

I think over all the mood was great for groups to sit, chat and enjoy decent food. The service was great, very friendly and constantly checking if we needed water, wine or whatever without being annoying. I enjoyed myself but if I return I will probably try the steak.

  2. Tony's answers the question of 'Where do the locals go' when it comes to seafood in this quiet and charming little lower Westchester County town; unfortunately however, this may be a time when you prefer not to follow the locals' example and blaze your own trail.

Tony's is definitely quaint. Medium and dark wood cover everything, dimly lit and yes, poorly/outdated decor. But we didn't mind. I rather liked the charm even though the restaurant is in desperate need of a good clean-up and a decor change. Service came to us in the form of a rushed but friendly waiter. A bit of a wise ass but I'm sure that adds to the charm for many. He spoke quickly, was a bit sarcastic, forgot about us for a while as he got busy with another order but apologized sincerely and gave us our refill sodas on the house. (you big spender you!). Yes, refills will cost you. But the most disappointing thing here is the food. A bland steak in a watery puddle with a few hasitly broiled scallops and a couple of clams was what came to us as "Tony's Special Steak & Seafood Platter".  We came due to my craving for lobster, I hadn't had it in over a year and needed to get that monkey off my back… What I received was a lobster which was obviously pre-frozen (they promised us on the phone that all their lobsters were live, fresh and cooked to order. That just isn't true.). The lobster was barely a pound though billed as a pound and a half, and was "stuffed" with salty bread crumbs (Italian style bread crumbs), much too salty to eat the entire thing. The lobster tail was rubbery and the claw meat stuck and tasted ruined from whatever freezer it had been in. The lobster itself was scorched black on the tips from the over they attempted to warm it in before putting it on our table.

Asking for a "dirty, dry martini" got me a shot glass of vodka with two tiny olives in it. No, not exaggerating here.

Tony's seems very popular with the older locals, I suppose because it's been around since rocks were cool, so perhaps they have no need to improve on quality and experience; that will only encourage us to swim on by when looking to satisfy our craving for seafood next time. At least for now, Tony's is a dead fish.

  3. I have been a fan of Tony's Steak House for 25 years now, since they opened.  It is a local restaurant and has become part of the Hastings on Hudson dining experience.  As soon as you walk in your usually greeted by Maria, (Tony's wife) or Joe (Tony's brother.) It's a friendly place where you see the same faces, and people actually know who you are.  There are two dining rooms, the first one with the bar at the end and   the second one that has big windows for wonderful daytime lighting.  There is not much to see out the window when it's dark outside.  Both rooms are warmly lit so you can see the people next to you and you do not feel like your sitting under the spot light.

They start off with Portuguese bread and olives on the table so you can nibble while you search the menu, (make sure you do not fill up on bread (I sound like my mom) because there is a lot of good food coming…

    The appetizers:
We always start with the baked clams…  Not your typical "italian style" but really well seasoned.  We have also had the Portuguese sausage or steamed clams.  All perfectly prepared and tasty.  (The clams are never soft or chewy)

    The diinner:
I seem to have gravitated to the combo Franchase which consists of sole, scallops and shrimp prepared franchase style..  All nice size pieces of fish in Tony's francahse style sauce.  Tony's steak is a New York Shell Steak with shrimp, scallops, and clams in a wine and garlic sauce. Their broiled lobster is stuffed with sautéed shrimp and scallops.  My two favorites and Tony's signature dishes are Paella with lobster, shrimp, scallops, chicken, clams and mussels and the Mariscada that has lobster, shrimp, scallops, calms, mussels and sausage in a Red Sauce.  All these dishes have flavor, the right amount of spice and heat.  All of them will leave you wanting more (and probably taking home some.)

There are always good dessert selections and a full bar to fully complement your dining experience.

It's all about consistency  when it come to Tony's.  The regulars always know what their going to get hen they order and the first timers can be sure that they will get the freshest seafood and steaks.

You will leave this restaurant satisfied and looking forward to your next visit.
