  1. Great new spot, had the carnitas and was definitely a healthy portion. The Agua frescas looked amaaaazing, would come back just to try that.

Only qualm was the bread. If it was crispy or a bit more like a panini it would have made the sandwich that much better. Kind of tasted like a roll you would get at a deli.

Other than that great place and will be back!

  2. Soy fan because their stuff is pretty legit. Never saw café de olla in this city before (though I wish they had a super sweet option, most traditional), and their donuts are very much like the ones I remember from Mexico City cafes.

As for their lunch menu, they build on top of typical Mexican plates like tortas with subtly integrated local elements like bbq/caramelized red onion sauce — at least that's my interpretation of their style. The point is the food is really good! The chilaquiles in a cup seemed curious to me and could use more salsa, but tasty nonetheless. You'll get a side of salty fried totopos (good stuff) so tip: ask for the actually-hot salsa (green or red)

There's a myriad of other items such as chocolate, snacks, brevages, and kitchen gear to soak in home-made family style Mexican food culture — honoring their name, Misc. They even sell Rancheritos (best chips ever)! Good job!

p.s. I'm usually pretty harsh to Mexican food places so this is more of a 4-and-half stars.

  3. The torta carnitas comes with a great quality bread instead of the usual roll in a torta. It comes with soft tender port, guacamole, and beans. I did wish it had some white cheese though.

It comes with some pickled vegetables that I threw in there, along with a few dabs of hot sauce. There's also a bag of freshly made tortilla chips, which I also used the hot sauce on.

Not the best deal for a torta, as I'm more used to paying $5-6 for one, but still a great tasting one.

  4. Love this place so, so much. I've been wanting to check out this gem for months now and I'm so glad I finally got the chance to today. It's run by people who are very friendly and welcoming. This quaint little spot carries a variety of torta sandwiches and homemade drinks in addition to Mexican grocery items.

I got the carnitas torta ($9), my boyfriend got the jamon and queso one ($9), and we got the guava/pineapple/rosemary aguas frescas to share ($4.50). The aguas frescas, though a bit pricey, is a must-try. The blended drink is full of fruit flavor and a great accompaniment to your meal. Our tortas both came with a side of crunchy tortilla chips and spicy pickled vegetables (carrots, jalapeños, onions). We thought the sandwiches were a bit small at first but they are stuffed with flavorful ingredients and we were very full at the end. I was very impressed with my sandwich — the bread was warm and the carnitas were tender. It had cilantro, which I normally hate and will pick it off anything, but it was surprisingly good and even made the torta better. The jamon and queso torta was just as great, with a generous amount of melty cheese and fixings that actually stood out more than the ham. Both sandwiches tasted even better with a dash of hot sauce. A common thing that we noticed was they really make every ingredient they put in there count — each item really makes a difference in the overall taste.

While you're waiting for your order, check out their groceries and goodies or chat up the owner! I can't wait to be back to try more of their food and drinks.
