FIKA

“I thus walk a longer distance to Fika, as opposed to getting equally good espresso drinks, made by two Italian dudes at Zibetto Espresso Bar.”

“After a hot day of stumbling through Central Park, my boyfriend and I were in the need of a cold pick me up, and we luckily happened past Fika.”

“It definitely reminds me of Scandinavia(been to Norway and Denmark but not Sweden yet).”

  1. The coffee at FIKA is very bold, which I am a fan of. I'm not a huge fan of their coffee flavor, but the brew itself is very good. Upsides to this place is that they have almond milk, brown sugar, and truvia. I feel like it's very hard to find a coffee bar that has something everyone can enjoy, so kudos to you FIKA. I don't think I'll be going back, a $5 medium ice coffee that I don't love isn't worth for me – FIKA is definitely an acquired taste.

  2. I've visited this lovely business a handful of times over the past few years, including the times before their remodel.  They have remained consistently excellent throughout the years.

The shop itself is GREATLY improved with the remodel, which gives it a much better flow, and more space in front of the counter.  The new display place is also lovely!  Quite inviting to the eye.  Clean.  Well-lit.  Very alluring.

The entrees are the better lunch bang for the buck, IMO.  The sandwiches, while generously portioned and delicious, are a bit steeply priced for just a sandwich, even in this area.  Mind you, you are getting very fresh, high quality ingredients which can't easily be matched in surrounding delis.

I've never had a dessert, chocolate, or coffee-product I didn't like here, and adore the fact that you can shop online, and pick up in any of their stores (handy, as some of the truffle collections aren't available in every shop).

Wonderful option for yourself, your family, a quick business coffee, et al.

  3. Service was quick, price was good for the product, and the espresso I had was delicious.

  4. The oatmeal cookie was a strange texture, but still good?  I can't even describe that in detail.  Please don't label me as "useless," my Yelp companions!  I guess if you're looking for a standard oatmeal cookie, you may be a bit disappointed…but it's still tasty.

The staff was pretty reserved.  If I'm the only one in the cafe, I like to strike up a conversation with the baristas because I know no other customers will bother.  But, maybe a sunny disposition is sometimes seen as "crazy" in these situations.

Clean and classy, but it's a small little coffee stop, so not a good workspace.  Overall, it was an okay experience.  Didn't wow me at all.  Not a notable stop on the Java Journey 2015.

  5. This is cool network of Scandinavian coffee bars. Minimalistic design, very good espresso drinks, friendly staff.  A bit on expensive side though, but very pleasant and nice place to have your coffee break.

  6. Simple. Swedish.  Coffee.

FIKA offers delicious iced coffee and espresso with a side of chocolate.  All of these are impressive, but I am partial to the iced coffee.  There a lot of coffee shops in the city, but when I'm there on business I really enjoy the simplicity and consistency of FIKA.  They have a number of salads and actual food as well, but this review is strictly of their coffee and sweets.

Tip:  If the weather is nice, grab a cup of their finest iced coffee and take a therapeutic stroll around the Plaza Hotel.

  7. Despite being a bit hesitant about coming here again I caved to the fact that I knew the fika places had semlor – a swedish cardamom bun with marzipan and whipped cream. And we could have gone to any other fika (the one right by our hotel for example) but since our first pick didn't accept strollers we went here.

Much better than the first time! No music, no singing. The barista made a delicious latte. Unfortunately there were only two semlor left so my husband had one and my friend the other. I had a cinnamon bun which was good.

The reason I only give three stars is because I still feel it lacks the concept of fika. A fika to me means sitting down and just relaxing for a while which is nearly impossible in this place given that there are very few seats. So my suggestion, try another fika place. the on on E34 and Lexington (i think) is big .. saw a couple of more on 5th heading down towards downtown manhattan.

But if you're just getting a coffee and something sweet on the go, this will suit you well.

  8. Was taking a long walk and needed a caffeine boost. This is not my favorite FIKA in the city (my favorite is obviously the one in my neighborhood, teehee) – the service was not impressive, the poor barista was left to fend for herself while her colleague decided to take a phone call – but their coffee is truly unparalleled and I also tried their salted caramel truffle for the first time, which paired with my single espresso PERFECTLY. 5 stars for the coffee, 1 for the service.
