My roommate and I came in for a late Sunday night dinner – I'd spotted this location earlier in the day, and remembered that multiple friends have raved over it – and I can already tell it's going to become part of my regular takeout rotation, for better or for worse.
I had anticipated a counter-serve setup, but it's actually a sit-down place (though they do takeout!). The menu is huge and has so many varieties of everything you can think of – from the classic beef burger to more exotic offerings like elk or wild boar. At least 8 or so sides, plus some specials, and a number of milkshakes that look amazing (but will run you 500+ calories apiece, sad face). I decided to skip the beef burger in favor of a duck burger – the Fire Quacker, to be specific. Duck patty, pepper jack cheese, habañero mayo, pickled jalapeños, red onions, and other veggies – spicy everything, basically. It wasn't too spicy at all, just had a bit of a kick. My roommate had the Hog Wild, which was wild boar, pimento cheese, fried egg, chickpea onions and green tomato. We split a side of fries and one of the special sides – some kind of chili-breadcrumb-encrusted pickle chips, which I didn't expect to like, but were pretty tasty and unique.
Really enjoyed the duck burger – it wasn't too gamey, and the selection of toppings complemented it well. Also thought it was the perfect serving size. The sides were pretty big – tons of fries and pickle chips – so I'd say these are definitely meant for sharing. Maybe one side for two people would be about right.
At about $18 bucks a pop for a burger and one side, Bareburger is a little too expensive to be your regular burger fix, but it's a versatile place – equally good for takeout as it is for a casual date.
This location is right down the street from me, so I'm pretty sure I'll be back.
These burgers are *amazing* and probably one of the best burgers I have ever had. Was a little skeptical of the restaurant on whether it would just be subpar due to the 3.5 star rating but wow after eating this burger couldn't believe it didn't have better ratings!
I got the bison burger that had a fried green tomatoes, pimento cheese, and I substituted the egg for duck bacon. Everything on the burger was super flavorful and really worked well together to have an incredible taste. My group also got the half regular fry and half sweet potatoes fry and these were good as well. They were pretty standard fries though and nothing to rave about but I was so focused on the burger I didn't even need fries!
If you want an amazing burger check this place out. The only downside was service wasn't the quickest but wasn't horrible. The burger was so good the service doesn't justify docking then of 5 stars!!!
Bareburger… how I've wanted to try you. When I first heard about you, it was in my cousin's living room.
"There's this place I always wanted to try…. they have all these different meats, bison, elk, different sh-"
"Cousss…. they have bison???"
You have to understand, I had a season of love with burgers when I was in college. A nearby spot, True Food Kitchen, back in Newport Beach had a delicious bison burger. From first bite, I was in love. And from that point on, I was on a quest to find the best burger. My white whale, the best burger, shifts– it comes and goes at every seating. But when bison is available… it stokes that desire once again. And I hoped that Bareburger could pull it off.
(This is a bit delayed as I forgot to check-in, but it's still fresh in my mind — trust!) My brother and I came here so I could grab a bite before my work meeting. We both ordered the Southern Caviar — a "Bareburger" consisting of bison patty, country bacon, horseradish remoulade, stout onions all between a brioche bun. Add to that two cokes… cause you gotta have coke with the burger.
It arrived after a short wait. I sank my teeth into it; the burger is best when it's fresh off the grill. The meat was tender, the flavors were good. I waited for the foodgasm, but it never came. Bison, as tender as it is, couldn't deliver this time around. Maybe it's the mix of flavors? Don't get me wrong — it's good! But I wouldn't put it up with the best I've ever had. It didn't help that the coke was pretty flat. I asked for another, and while it had more spritz, like my experience here, it still fell flat.
For all that, we split the bill and it came to $20-something with tip. I'd be down to come back and try again, but for what it cost and shoot… how big the burger is… I'm not sure if it'll be anytime soon. But I'm open to it if / when a craving does come up and I don't want to stray too far from home.
I love me some Bareburger and have been to a couple of locations around the city. I live right near this one and came for lunch on a Sunday (today) with a couple of friends who were in the area. Our experience was great; everyone was super nice, from the hostess to the waitress to the busboys, and the food tasted great. I had a coffee which was not half bad (and enormous to boot), a very fresh side salad with just the right amount of nice-tasting dressing, and the Guadalupe burger with turkey instead of black bean – I love that you can substitute whatever you want. My friends did that as well, opting for a side of fries and sweet fries instead of fries and rings. No extra charges or anything. We had a great time and I'd definitely come back. I've ordered from here off Seamless too, and have no complaints about that experience either!
Back for my third or fourth trip to 87th Street BareBurger. They are always so nice at this location.
I really went all out today and tried something new. I had the Supreme. I ate my sweet potato fries for desert. This burger is huge! You get a lot of food for the price. It really is like getting a burger with the side of onion rings. It had a beef patty, Colby cheese, lettuce, one onion ring inside the bun that was stuffed with fries, and two onion rings on top of the brioche bun. I left off the condiments and asked for the country bacon on the side.
I gave it four stars because I think they got the bun wrong. I was substituting the sprout bun for the brioche. It was a delicious bun though. Plus they were nice enough to leave off the country ham. I took it home. It was two huge slices of country bacon on this burger. This is one gigantic burger!!
My only complaint is I didn't have room left for a Sammie!
I'll be back.
I needed to grab some dinner before a show, but I was by myself. So I was looking for a decent place with a big bar, and food. I really liked the ambiance of this place, and it seemed very welcoming. I walked in and was immediately seated at the bar. It was rather cozy!
I came to this place because my friends recommended it. I usually would not go to a place that is 'organic everything'. Im just not that into the 'gluten free' and 'organic everything' trends.
I was there during happy hour so i got a great $4 beer that i could not even finish. I ordered one of their signature burgers, and a side of cole slaw. All together the burger was tasty… however way too small for the price, and it did not come with a side. The coleslaw I ordered was made differently then I expected and really lacked flavor. I was still hungry after I ate everything. Something I noticed was the quality of the food seemed very good. I did not feel sluggish, or 'tired' as I sometimes do after eating a lot of carbs. So do I chalk that up to the healthy, organic ingredients?
I liked the overal presentation of the food… the cute cups and bowls. I get the whole trendy vibe. Maybe this would be a cool place to go with a bigger crowd, if we were also looking to hang out. But I think next time I crave a burger I could go somewhere a lot cheaper, where the burgers are bigger.
I've ordered from this BareBurger location several times over the past year, and have yet to have a solidly positive experience. They have veggie burgers which are half decent and fries that get the job done, which is what has kept me coming back.
Delivery is always exceptionally slow, considering I live a mere 2 blocks away. Typically delivery takes around an hour, but is routinely over the estimated delivery window by 15-20 minutes. This alone wouldn't be a deal breaker if the food were good, but it's pretty mediocre. Burgers are usually dry, topping amounts are offensively small. My burger tonight had 2 tiny pickle slices, and a slice of cold cheese. Fried are typically soggy, when they're crisp they're not bad.
I'll never order from this location again. Finally had my last negative experience with this BareBurger location, and this time it had nothing to do with the food. I placed an order through seamless and around 45 minutes later get a text from a friend asking if I ordered BareBurger through her seamless account. I checked to make sure I didn't, and even checked to make sure my credit card had been charged (I didn't and it had). We figured it must be because I once used my phone number on an order we placed months ago. That still seemed weird since the delivery address was clearly listed as mine on the seamless receipt.
I called the restaurant to make sure this didn't happen again and was transferred to the manager who proceeded to act like it was a huge hassle that I wanted my food delivered to the correct address. I asked if there was a way for him to delete my phone number from their CRM system, and he refused. Then he proceeded to tell me that I should stop using Seamless. It's clear now that this guy hates seamless orders – even though they charge a delivery fee. Even when I said that my experience made me want to stop ordering from BareBurger the manager didn't care, he just wanted to get off the phone as soon as possible. No worries, I won't call or ever spend money at this place again. I'll get my mediocre burgers elsewhere from now on.
First I have to start out by saying we came at dinner time with 9 people and no call ahead or anything. It was very busy but the servers were accommodating and we told them we didn't mind squeezing into a booth with a chair on the end. They were really great and we never felt like they were neglecting us or like they were annoyed with our particularly large group.
So usually I would balk at a burger chain that was as expensive as Bare. 11-15 bucks on a burger and fries are NOT included?! What kind of game is this? But I kept my cool because everyone I know has raved about their burgers and I figured, there has to be a reason that all these people love this. I decided to get the Grindhouse burger. Elk, manchego, duck bacon, WHAT?!
The burger arrived, it was smaller than I expected, but after my first bite I was in love and pretty much stuffed the whole burger into my mouth because DELICIOUSNESS! And while I know I'm prone to hyperbole, this is not a drill people. I've had my fair share of "BBQ" burgers–you know, cheddar, bacon, onion straws (sometimes), and bbq sauce. This was like that, but like sprinkled with gourmet fairy dust and sheer brilliance. I suddenly began to wonder why all burgers weren't covered in duck bacon and why I'd only now had paprika mayo (considering I don't like mayo this is a big deal). I considered getting a second, the price stopped me. But I could have eaten a second burger.
Also, as a condiment person, I have to say their table ketchup and mustard are phenomenal and I will never think of ketchup–which is usually an 'ew'–the same way again.
Unfortunately, I will probably not be back anytime soon because I'm pretty much never near a Bareburger other than when I'm at work, and it's still not that close.
