No nonsense place. Reading all the Yelp reviews made us more nervous than we needed to. As long as you know what you want, you should be fine on the line. The problem is choosing from the great list. Ordered the Brando (smoked chicken breast, provolone, sweet roasted peppers, arugula) and Lucia (prosciutto, smoked mozzarella and sweet roasted peppers). The Brando was soooooo good.
Simple. Fresh. Delicious.
Huge delicious Italian sandwiches! This place is small and sometimes has a little line since its is only two workers but they have a huge selection and great ingredients. It's not fancy but the freshly sliced meat and big baguettes are spot on. I couldn't finish a whole sandwich (priced between 9-13 dollars) by my fiancé finished his. Guys worked fast and seriously so many options we will be back!
Got the Pinocchio for lunch. It was a decent sandwich and all the ingredients were very fresh, from the bread to the prosciutto to the mozzarella. A tasty sandwich indeed.
On the downside, the female cashier/owner was being a real douche and acting very patronizing and arrogant. They don't let you create your own sandwich and they don't have pepperoni. An Italian sandwich shop without pepperoni? Really? Maybe that's just they're style, and from reading the glowing reviews, I can tell that a lot of people don't mind. Not me, I don't play that game.
Top off the rude attitude with exorbitant prices (my sandwich came to $15.24 including tax) and I'm sure to never come back or recommend this place to anyone else. There's simply too many good lunch options in Soho to put up with this kind of abuse.
Per the other comments, I'm going to have to agree. The lady that works here is an absolute monster and I find it sad when each Yelp review mentions that because it only means she hasn't changed or perhaps doesn't want to change.
I'm not sure why she's so angry but at this point I don't really care why because the food itself is not worth writing home to, revisiting, or really even reviewing but here I am hoping that if you're a person like me, who generally doesn't like getting their day ruined by someone who seems to have a dried sandwich stuck up their butt, then don't bother with this place. The sandwiches are not worth $12.00. The bread is dry, the sweet peppers old, and the attitude pretty indescribable. The workers here also look absolutely terrified of her, just as terrified as I looked when tasting my dried up sandwich and realizing I could have spent those same $12 bucks on a chipotle bowl with guac.
This place is amazing!
I guess if you're looking for sit down service then it's not for you but if you're cool with a huge delicious Italian sandwich on fresh baked bread made by people who actually speak Italian-well, this is your spot!
A couple of disclaimers-everything is absolutely fresh so they run out of stuff, the hours are kind of random and the staff is just there to take your order and make your food, not be your friend.
That aside, wow! I love this place. I've been coming here for years and wish I still worked nearby. There are so many options for meat lovers and vegetarians! (not so sure about vegan, but I mean, come on, it's an Italian sandwich) The sandwiches are a little expensive, I'd say between 10 and 15 dollars, but I usually have half for lunch and the other half for dinner with chips or something, or, save some money and split it with a friend : ). And if you're super hungry, well, they'll fill you up-no problem.
Seriously can't say anything bad about this place…just writing this review is making me hungry and I just had breakfast.
TIP: Please know what you're getting before you get to the front of the line; or you will get Next'd
TIP 2: CASH ONLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
TIP 3: Don't go during lunch time, if you plan on eating in
– My top 3 are Pavarotti, Brando, Marina, but it's really a matter of taste
Di caprio – prosciutto, hot and sweet peppers, mushroom paste, arugula, hot spicy spread and fennel.
Holy crap, this place is delicious. The bread was soft and tasty. Prosciutto perfectly cut. Hot spicy spread was tangy enough you wanted to soak up what dripped off. Every sandwich i now eat will be compared to this.
Thank you
I grew up in an Italian house hold- and this would be nonna approved! The sandwiches are so delicious, you'll miss them, from the bread to the meat it's so fresh and tastes so good! My favorite is "the Matthew" try it for yourself!
