I am truly a fan of this establishment. Been dying to try it out since I read about it a few months ago so I met my girlfriend for lunch the day after Thanksgiving – still stuffed from the day before but excited to try it out.
One thing I have to say is this restaurant is very unassuming and if you didn't know it was there you wouldn't know as it is literally under the Third Avenue Bridge in the Bronx, but I like the quiet atmosphere and it seems to fit right in as they have gentrified this long forgotten area of the Bronx.
While waiting for my girlfriend I had a drink at the bar…..I ordered a White Cosmopolitan – which I have never heard of before. It consists of Vodka, Peach Schnapps and White Cranberry Juice (I've never heard of that before who knew?). It was VERY pretty and VERY good. It was so good that I had another. My girlfriend had two as well. The waiter brought over some nachos and salsa while I waited. The salsa was pretty good – more on the sweet side than spicy but it not bad.
When my girlfriend arrived we sat at a table. I've read that they have some of the best burgers so that's what I decided to have (and so did my girlfriend). I will say they burgers were very good, served on an English muffin with lettuce, tomato and pickles and you can get either fries, onion rings or a salad with it. The menu had some pretty good selections on it from lamb to hummus to salads – definitely worth checking out again.
I have to say that I really like the atmosphere at this establishment. From the black and white tiled floor (which gives it a throw-back feel) to the music that they played it has a nice vibe to it. Finally I have to say that the wait staff were the most friendly I've ever come across. They kept checking on us and it didn't matter that we were their customer or not they made us feel very welcome.
I would encourage you to check out this hidden gem in the Bronx – it's definitely worth the visit or a visit back which I will be doing soon.
Good, service a little slow, but great menu, food was really good. I ordered the fried chicken sliders, so much food, mt friends order the black bean burger (great vegan option), falafel wrap, fried chicken and waffels. The portions are huge and the prices are low, def recommend in the area.
3.5 Stars to be exact.
Its black and white tiles give it a classic parlour look to it! Our friend just moved into the area and drove us here for a late Sunday Brunch. Even though it is not located in a major busy area, there are plenty of customers here raising their glass of mimosas.
My party and I were served a complimentary colored tortilla chips with salsa. Tortilla chips were grainy yellow, red, and purple colored. Very lively looking! It is no surprised that the homemade chips are so crispy. The brunch plates we got was the Pork Belly Benedict, Chicken & Waffles, and a Breakfast Burger.
Pork Belly Eggs Benedict was quite flavorful. The meat was tender. Eggs were still that perfect golden yellow gooey. Only thing I would comment is the thickness of the pork belly – it was pretty thin.
Chicken & Waffles came with two pieces of fried chicken and four pieces of waffles covered with powdered sugar. A little kid's dream come true! Waffles were on the hard side though. I love that this dish came with a really thick syrup, hot chocolate sauce, and peanut butter sauce. Not too much of a fan of the peanut butter sauce but hot chocolate and syrup is alright.
Breakfast Burger patty comes between the two slices of English muffin topped with your choice of cheese, tomato, lettuce, and onions. It comes with your choice of a side – salad, onion rings, regular fries, and sweet potato fries. Get the the sweet potato fries! The English muffin made this burger a real bruncher!
A very solid spot for drinks and brunch without the need to go to the city.
I came here for brunch today and had a great time.
Located in the southwest corner of the Bronx right under the 3rd Avenue Bridge, Mott Haven Bar and Grill is part of the overall gentrification of this area of the borough. The restaurant itself has a very casual feel to it – mostly a black color scheme with tile floors, an impressive bar on the back wall, and large windows which add lots of brightness to the space.
Their brunch menu wasn't too big but has a nice variety of things to choose from – a good mix of classics and home-spun creations. They also had some brunch specials and for $10 unlimited mimosas.
They started us with some corn chips and salsa, and for my meal I went with the Lorraine omelette (Swiss cheese, onion, and bacon) which came with home fries, mixed greens, and toast. Everything was delicious and tasted very fresh – their coffee was good as was the mimosa.
Awesome experience overall, the Bronx needs more places like this. The food, service, and atmosphere definitely make this place a go-to for me.
I came here because a friend needed my ear plus alcohol. And the place i was going to take her was closed. But i am glad i came here.
Upon entering the music was on a hip hop station which to me was already a sign of good things to come.
It was happy hour so i ordered my jamesons as they were $5 a shot and my friend was enjoying her wine at half price.
We sat and talked the waiter came over and didnt rush us by comtinously offering the bill.
We ordered the nachos which were good. And the hamburger which had mcmuffins instead of hamburger bread, that was different.
I will continue to return to this place.
I came to Mott Haven Bar and Grill for a private event. The area was nice and intimate with plenty of lounge style seating. The waiters were very attentive and were able to get our drinks out rather quickly. My favorite thing I enjoyed was the macaroni and cheese…to die for! The surrounding area is pretty sketchy, but besides that I really enjoyed my experience.
This place is fantastic! I originally learned about it through the New York Social Cycling group, which started a group ride here so we grabbed drinks and breakfast before heading out. I since returned with a girlfriend of mine and we had a fantastic lazy late-Sunday afternoon brunch. The service was incredibly friendly, the food was great, and though I don't drink, my friend was very excited about the bottomless guava mimosas. I was surprised and very pleased to see that they had quite a few vegetarian and vegan options and I plan to try every single one of them. The atmosphere is very relaxed and I love that they do events like poetry and salsa dancing (we popped into the lesson on Sunday night and the teacher was great). I will definitely be back!
This is a great neighbourhood bar that has been carefully renovated and is clearly very popular with the locals. Friendly staff, a great selection of locally brewed beers and an extensive menu make it an easy choice when visiting the Bronx.
I spent a couple of hours here with a friend while it was raining heavily outside. The experience was much friendlier and, of course, better value than many establishments I've tried in downtown Manhattan. An all round great establishment.
