Ordered takeout, we got the porchetta panini, the chicken and mozzarella panini, and the baby green bean salad.
Porchetta panini-AMAZING!!! Yummy pickles, tastes like an Italian version of a Cuban sandwich
Chicken mozzarella- tasted great all the ingredients were fresh and went well together but the sandwich itself was a little boring for my taste
Green bean salad- sooooo good!! Fresh crispy green bean with the yummiest tangy vinaigrette
Def need to dine in one day but for takeout a def 5 star
Before saying anything else – I should say that I wasn't really in the mood for Il Bambino and think I mis-ordered so I suspect that if I came back another time that I might enjoy it more. Also, we ordered take out – so that might have also had something to do with it.
The menu was full of fun, creative, and tempting options. I didn't want anything too heavy so decided to go with a crostini and salad combo. The Bacon, Egg and Cheese "Mimosa" salad was "meh." It wasn't quite what I expected. In the take-out order the arugula and cheese are separate from the creamy egg and bacon dressing. On the menu, I didn't expect the egg to be part of the dressing and I didn't expect the dressing to be creamy since it was described as a "bacon vinaigrette." Next, I ordered the Mushroom truffle butter, dirty chips, parmesan crostini. Again,it wasn't what I expected. I thought it would be much more mushroom hearty, while actually it's has a thick layer of butter that has small mushroom slivers. To me, the proportions were all wrong – but I think mis-understood what I was ordering.
Anywho – my friends enjoyed their panini and, if I give them another shot, I'll go in that direction too.
Love love love,
When they first opened in Astoria I tried it and order delivery from the all the time, now the 8th St location by my job, they are following me.
My favorite is the Italian meatloaf sandwich. I get it every time. Another is the one with Mac and cheese on it. So good. My only complaint is sometimes the sandwiches can be a bit dry. But other than that they are great.
Also had a tomato bisque soup here once it was absolutely amazing dip your sandwich in that. Woooooh!
Perfect crostini and perfectly made panini! It's the bread!!
And of course what in it or on it. Crostini – is what's on it. I had the romanesco with cheese and mayo.
The porchetta was excellent except it is more like pulled porchetta – shredded. They put some spicy sauce in it.
The ambience is great. Clean and modern decor.
I love this place!
And they also have wine, coffee and tap beer. And they have the South African red wine bottles like a big beer bottle. By the glass or the whole bottle.
Great sandwich place! Big notch up than a regular boring sandwich shop!!!
'Just found myself a great spot!
Woman in front was very nice. She recommended the Avocado Panini as well as the Porchetta out of the many very good sounding menu choices.
I got the Porchetta sandwich which came with some spicy pickle slaw and some rosemary aioli.
The sandwich was a bit greasy though the bread was quite good and the meat was chopped which was a bit unexpected. It was quite spicy. Reminded me a bit of the giardina peppers you find on Italian beef sandwiches.
I'll try another sandwich but for now a 3.3
Dope new sandwich restaurant on west 8th Street. I was just walking by, I peaked in and and decided to give it a try. I was not disappointed by my decision. The baby arugula salad with beets and goat cheese was a good starter. The chef hooked me up with a taste of the fingerling potato salad. Wow! That was sick… Fingerling potatoes, truffle aioli fried shallots and pecorino cheese. You have to try this potato salad. I ordered The avocado panini by recommendation from my waiter and it was delicious. I can't wait to try some of their other goodies.
Much bigger than its relative in Astoria, this brand new location doesn't accept reservations (like the other one), and offers an identical menu. We were welcomed by a staff eager to please you, and had a panino and some crostini.
Smoked bacon, cracked pepper aioli, manchego: I can't recall if it was better at the other location, but this was good.
Porchetta panino special: very good, and very filling. I loved the concoction of flavors, especially the way the taleggio melted on my mouth. Recommended.
Their Garnacha for $9 is a fantastic choice from the red wines menu.
Overall, a solid place that will soon get as busy as the sister on Astoria.
Enjoyed my panino with pancetta (Porchetta panino with spicy pickle slaw – $10). To my surprise, my hubby didn't enjoy much as I did. I liked little kick from slaw and it cut the fattiness from Italian bacon. That made a balanced flavor. Crust crunchiness from the bread was a needed texture. For us, skinines, the half portion with half salad was a perfect lunch.
Beets with Baby Arugula – $10 was simple but good. Arugula was nicely seasoned with nice olive oil with lemon juice(?). What goes wrong with goat cheese and toasted walnuts. It was an enjoyable salad.
I must check this place up soon. I like to try Tuna in a while tomato and baked dish, but I don't see it in WV location…
